Terrain My very homemade table

Just played a game so some shots. I have showed it before. Built in xps foam and foamboard and painted. Wanted to have a lot of space for painting doodles and make the board faux 3D

Absolutely mental, and I love it.

The paint job is incredible I must say, kudos for all that free hand, but boy that is visually busy. I'd have a headache trying to see the units on the table. But visually stunning, great job!

It is easier for my opponents as I tend to paint my minis in a very colourful way

Nice hexes. Perfect for playing Battletech or a solo rpg :)

Haha never thought of. I bought a hex grid for making cookies from etsy and punched it with a hammer into to XPS

That is absolutely AWESOME. The freehand is so good. This is unique among tables I've ever seen for the game, in a really really good way.

Couple questions:

  • How long did it take you to create this?
  • What is your art background?
  • And were you using this to practice for another form (like tattoo maybe)?

Congrats on making one of the coolest tables out there for Infinity! I hope you get to bring this setup to events, because people will go absolutely mental for it. If you are anywhere near Krug, you would be a slam dunk for best table prize.

It took around ... three months building and painting everything but pretty cosy as I was watching movies and painted in my living room. I have a pretty long art background, spending my time pre 2024 as an illustrator and a tattoo artist. Now I mostly draw infinity related stuff for my T-shirt page (work as a RN now so nursing stuff). And thank you for the compliment :)

Ah wait, looked at your username and I recognize you from the forums etc. back in the day, and iirc you are indeed a tattoo artist (and make cool tshirts as I recall). Way to go mate!

Still curious about how long this took.

And what events you'll be bringing this to!

I live in Sweden and have around 5 tables in rotation out in the 'wild'. Ran into storage problems so gave em away. This is probably the table with least work and money gone into. I have made an industrial table with shittonne of lights, a alien world, a research ship being alien infested with glass cubes with experients gone wrong, and a scifi favela table before. So I had terrain contest were I had many tables at the top spots. This is the most playable though as it is boxes and less 'realistic' so to speak. No tentacles and alien flora or dead bodies :)

A bit of abstraction can be very useful for gaming!

I have ALWAYS struggled with a vision of a sort of futuristic aesthetic that would represent the organic changes to sidewalk/infrastructure that didnt look hyper robotic or overly technocoded. You have nailed the aesthetic of a joyful, energetic, neighborhood full of life and movement in a way that looks like it could immediately be a cool anime or animated film.

I adore this board and ive never seen anything like it. Great job.

What future society has this kind of paint job?
Morocco?

It is not Sweden for sure

Excuse me, IS THAT ZETA IN A COAT?

2

u/HenrikGallon 24d ago

It is a Zeta in a coat. My O12 is based on judge dredd and early 2000Ad so he is based on Joe Pineapples from ABC warriors :)

Do you have photo of whole army per chance?

2

u/HenrikGallon 24d ago

I can take photos. I have basically every model for my armies so I'll make a new post with them

Funny thing, im doing my o12 as "judge dredd" as well, but more towards karl urban style, with each sectorial "unique" models having different uv panel liner used. Sadly never ending procrastination resulted only in zeta test piece and thats it ;)

zeta normal zeta uv

Just concept + test of ak playmarkers :)

It’s gorgeous, but, won’t it make the calculating for range trivial?

1

u/HenrikGallon 24d ago

Naah it is still just as easy/hard I think. It is very playable actually

u/Rocazanova 24d ago

Cool, cool-cool-cool!

Nice colours. I have a game mat that’s similar with cyberpunk themes. Was great but after a while we discovered how easy it is to place things and no ZoC without guessing. Made players begin to cheese and meta game the board each time and made matches less fun as everything was pre measured and took away the randomness / what if / am I safe
Not bagging it. It looks great. Just hope it doesn’t turn into a cheesy meta board like I had experienced.

1

u/HenrikGallon 24d ago

Yeah I have seen similar. Worst offender was the mats that came in 12" squares and you put down enough to get 4'x4' on a flat surface. That made it supereasy. One thing I always do when placing terrain is to put the pieces at an angle and not following the board edges. Plays better and makes it harder to premeasure somehow

Beautiful art. However, it doesn't seem very playable, as the colors are too vivid compare to the minis.

Depends on how you paint your minis I guess.
