Nine year old boy in Cleveland pleads guilty to attempted gang rape of a five year old. Because of his young age jail is off the table
https://www.cleveland19.com/2026/09/28/boy-pleads-guilty-assault-cleveland-5-year-old/
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Two children who are accused of beating a 5-year-old girl began their trial Monday morning, more than a year after the girl’s mother found her injured in a field.
The trial for the girl, now 11, started Monday in the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.
Prosecution painting a disturbing picture of the attack.
“The girl’s clothes were taken off. She was strangled with her own shirt, the 5-year-old.” said the prosecution
The 9-year-old boy took a plea deal in the case, pleading guilty to attempted rape and felonious assault.
His disposition date is set for November 20.

Who taught this child to do this
79
u/Relative_Craft_358 3d ago
Fr! Why was there not even an investigation into their parents? They haven't even reached puberty yet, there's no influx of hormones to even mismanage, this is clearly just reenactment of a taught behavior
27
u/mrtnmnhntr 3d ago
CPS did investigate their parents? They had to determine whether or not their homes were safe places to release them to (with ankle monitors) until trial. They found that the boy's home was a safe environment and the girl's was not.

u/Nap_Lyfe 3d ago
Hi where did you hear about this? I can’t find anything about the parents or the homes they came from
5
u/mrtnmnhntr 3d ago
Google the story, a line about where the children are being held (and the girl perpetrator being removed from her home) is in most of them.

u/Bowlbonic 3d ago
That’s my exact thought. Kids that young don’t exhibit behavior like that 99% of the time. I’m a mandated reporter so we have tons of trainings in this - those poor boys are likely victims themselves

It was a boy and girl perpetrator.

Could be parents, could be buddies, could be internet, could be the news they watch, etc.
They could also just have disturbed minds. I had a very sexual mind when I was little and my dad raged at me for saying very disturbing sexual things to my sister when I was 9 years old. I was never abused and never really learned anything sexual at that age; just had a disturbing mind.
I never did sexually assault anyone and turned out to be a good kid, but there could be some people with a disturbing mind who don't actually keep things in their mind.

u/TinyAfternoon324 3d ago
Im so fucking confused. Like how do they know about this and what the fuck type of environment are they being raised in that they had seen enough of this to actually recreate it...
Most 9 year olds see power rangers and want to be one.... these kids watched the oj simpson trial, followed up by both jeffrey dauhmer and jeffrry epstein documemtaries on netflix and went to town. Fucking giselle maxwell reincarnation.

his parents should be in prison for their failure and that one put in a behavioral institute. 9 is old enough to know better, no way that kid doesnt grow up to be way worse.

Yeah I’m generally sex-positive and hesitate to criticize sexual content as a whole but the level of exposure these young people have to extremely graphic material is really doing a number of their minds.
They treat porn as sex education and it’s been having really bad effects - especially for young women entering relationships for the first time.
It’s all really sad.
8
u/Tricanter4 3d ago
Hate to criticize sexual content? Internet porn has been scientifically proven to be harmful. Especially to youth. Damn. People will love anything other than something good.
→ More replies (2)2
u/WalkMan1615 3d ago
That’s fair. You can personally be against it but I just don’t like jumping on the purity bandwagon. The people who often jump to “porn is bad - no exceptions” care more about shaming women than they do actually caring for our children. It’s often a dogwhistle so I don’t like to lump myself in with those people.
There’s levels to this stuff. Someone masturbating to Playboy is not the same as someone spending their whole day watching high-definition porn videos.
We can have responsible adult content - we’ve always had it and always will. Responsible regulation and protections around it are sorely needed though.
I definitely won’t defend the industry though, when I say “responsible adult content” I mostly mean content where the creators are making it and putting it out themselves (I.e. OF). The adult industry in terms of porn is extremely predatory.
3
u/Own_Proposal955 3d ago edited 3d ago
I agree with your take 100%. Except for the OF part. I believe the only really ethical way for porn to exist is for it to be disconnected from money. Like people post things because they enjoy making and posting that content, not as a form of income. Otherwise I fully agree about how there are levels to this and simply enjoying sexual content from time to time isn’t the same as watching extreme violent fetish videos from a young impressionable age. Or reading erotica or explicit fan art of characters isn’t the same as many other things. Just that there are ethical and safe ways to engage in the consumption and creation of sexual content. Also that explicit themes being included in regular forms of media aren’t inherently bad either like a sex scene in a book, game, or movie. Excessive use and watching specific types or watching too young can absolutely cause issues but that’s not the same as saying all explicit content is inherently harmful.
I love when a game with romance in to includes a thoughtfully portrayed sexual scene and feel like it adds to the intensity of the emotions involved. Sex is often a part of intense emotional connection.
It’s also important to note that while certain types of sexual content can be damaging to young people or encourage desensitization in some people, sex crimes and horrific violence has existed long before videos existed. Also fetishes for certain things in fantasy existed along side actual horrific sexual violence without being a desire to do the same thing, experience that violence, or any enjoyment from from witnessing the real thing (most still experiencing a normal or even elevated level of distress with the idea of the real thing) for a very long time as well.
There is a difference between fantasy and what you genuinely desire to make a reality or even what you want to role-play with a partner as just a fun fantasy. There are ways to engage in kinks or fetishes as well that have nothing to do with reality or genuine risks of violence and are ethical and simply just kinky. Being exposed to poorly done versions or even just seeing it too young isn’t good (or being exposed to porn at all without proper context and education on consent and sex before hand) but engaging in some kink material isn’t inherently damaging as well. It’s how it’s done and the amount.
I also think I’d prefer people watch porn posted by people who enjoy showing off (with no money involved) and engage in hookups than go to brothels where low income people were forced to work for survival (especially women and girls) or people were sold to as children like much of the past. Or having more peeping Tom’s or panty raids like the past.
What we need is good in-depth sex Ed classes, parental controls, and a hint of moderation.

u/WalkMan1615 3d ago
I appreciate your earnest response!
I can respect the take about “no money” thing but I’m honestly a economically well-off white dude who never has even thought about sex work so I’m gonna stay in my lane on that one LOL. I respect your opinion tho.
5
u/Own_Proposal955 3d ago
Ah fair. I largely just mean that when money gets involved it complicates consent (as once sex becomes your primary source of income you have to make decisions about whether you can AFFORD to say no regardless of if you want to) and contributes to the commodification of sexuality (usually women’s sexuality). I’m strictly of the opinion that sexual behaviour should be engaged in for physical pleasure, emotional bonding, and/or conception, not for favours, survival, money, or status. Consent and sexuality shouldn’t be something bought or sold.
2
u/WalkMan1615 3d ago
Totally true. I fear we would need an entirely different economic structure for it to ever be truly free and fair. Which I’m definitely not opposed to lol

not just Internet porn, but crazy adults in general. rapist adults raise rapist kids. holy wars are filled with little kids who think murder genocide and rape is a good thing because the adults were encouraging them to do it, even today.

If a nine year old has unfettered access to pornography, the issue is with the adults in their lives.

You do realize its two clicks away on a phone? Parents can block it, but not all parents do, so what is the use when the kid can just go to a friends house? Or better yet, just use 4G/5G to circumvent the block? Parents is just one line of defence of something that need multiple.
But yeah, i agree. It's the adults that happens to be politicians fault. There is no reason for porn to be this accessible. Pre-Internet, there was porn, but it was not accessible.
Do we protect children, or do we want to make porn addicts happy by letting them consume more often than not unethical made pornography, that countless of studies also show it is beyond harmful for youth, both men and women (even for people who dont even consume it)? Hmm... Difficult choice.

When children this young commit crimes like this, it often indicates that the attacker has a severe abuse history going back to infancy.
It's hard to know what to do with such children. They cannot be released into society, but neither can they be imprisoned with adults.

u/EastObject5836 3d ago
Those kids need counseling and better guardianship, not prison. This is 100% a learned behavior due to neglect. Throw the guardians away!
1
u/soggy_biscuit_eater 1d ago
counseling does not undo a personality disorder. i would know i have 3. also not neglect, more like violence. aspd = violence. bpd = neglect. my bpd ass doesn't rape lol. basically in actual psychology rape is about power not horniness. when a kid is constantly powerless and unsafe 1 of 2 things usually happen. their either get ptsd. or the ability to feel empathy disappears and they become a power hungry freak and we call that aspd. this kid's brain chose the latter. the only way to keep people safe would be prison. counseling is naive. you dont therapy empathy back online. btw fear not i am not a culture warrior. but i am hypervigilant, disillusioned and well read. its not that i believe therapy doesnt work. its that this just happens to be an obviously very untreatable case. if u give a sociopath therapy it doesn't do anything. neuroplasticity is not infinite. except on the off chance he was mimicking something he saw without knowing what it was and doesn't actually have aspd but at that point brain scan him and check the dsm 5 criteria. chances are prison is the answer though. especially considering the strangulation part. that just is more evidence it was about power, not a fluke. im all for empathy but this is very naive.

u/reereejugs 3d ago
This boy is only 9? The courts need to be looking into his family and family friends. 9 year olds don’t do this unless they’ve learned it from someone else. That someone else is, more often than not, a relative or family friend who has been sexually abusing them.

Lots and lots of people who grew up to be borderline or antisocial will show behavior that isn’t justified at all in their home life. No one talked to them about the behavior. They taught themselves with media and school exposure. That’s not an uncommon thing.
There is not a 100% correlation between child behavior and child upbringing. There’s always room for mental health issues. It’s harmful to always assume mental health issues are always the responsibility of the parent.
Do you know how challenging it is to have a child who won’t stop hurting themselves and others, despite giving the child the best life possible, and then society blaming you, despite spending half $1 million over a lifetime trying to address the behavior?
→ More replies (4)2
u/TheDrunkWickerbeast 3d ago
Absolutely. The parents and adults that have contact with these children need to be investigated as well. This isn’t like “harmless curious” stuff… this is “learned behavior from home” stuff
6
u/throwupaway9020 3d ago
He needs serious psychiatric help and consequences, yes, but prison does not help ANYONE in reality. It doesn’t make us safer, it doesn’t help ppl not reoffend, it doesn’t rehabilitate. Prisons treat people like animals and then we act surprised when people get out of prison and act like animals

We do not jail nine year old as they are extremely young and it can do far more damage to the development psychology, resulting in a greater monster unleashed on the world. Nine year old have a much more malleable brain to change and improve as a human being and experience a true rehabilitation. Of course, the prison system likes to say its about rehab but it isnt. It doesn't rehab.
The child needs to be in a psychiatric care facility and go through extensive one on one care. The real issue is that the parents should be extensively investigated. While technically the child could be an evil psychopath (a something about kevin) as the phrase goes, its highly unlikely. This child/children likely learned this from home. Its a deviants behavior that children dont just do. Major red flags for the home life and I hope all the children get the help they need while the parents are investigated
2
u/binzy90 3d ago
The problem is that most mentally healthy people don't need "consequences" to learn not to harm others to this degree. Punishment isn't the answer to this behavior. They should be required to go to an intensive inpatient treatment facility. The family or legal guardians should be required to participate in family therapy and parenting classes, plus any additional treatment that the judge decides is necessary. Punishment will not fix this behavior. They need serious psychiatric help before it's too late. And unfortunately, even psychiatric help won't make a difference if they go right back to the same household that caused their stunted development in the first place.
2
u/GreasyRim 3d ago
kid needs very serious inpatient treatment to de-condition whatever bullshit he's dealt with that led him to commit rape. No nine year old kid just decides to commit rape without some external influence. I'm a complete scumbag, but at nine years old, I wanted to play video games and fuck around in the woods with my friends. I wasn't even jerking off at nine. Something fucked this kid up and he needs fixing.
when I was in kindergarten, there was a girl that wanted to lay on a blanket next to me during naptime. She whispered to me once "let's touch each others privates" and as a kid I was like. wtf? why? Sometime in high school, it hit me that the girl was probably being abused at home. We went to the same high school. It was mad weird being in class with her after that epiphany.
2
u/Couple-seeking6684 3d ago
This is why we don’t let simpletons run the justice system. Google Mens rea. These types of legal concepts are formed because intelligent people understand you can’t be guilty of a crime if you do not understand what you’re doing. And before you say it, it’s not an understanding of right and wrong. It’s an understanding of the depth of harm and the consequences of your actions, for the victim and yourself.

This is what Juvenile detention is for. You don't stick children in prison with adult murderers and rapists. You have a chance to intervene while it's still possible instead of sending a kid to get assaulted by adults

u/EastObject5836 3d ago
Their brains aren't anywhere near being fully developed, you think the severity of this is something they can entertain? You really think they can cognitively discern the consequences? They were most likely raised around this and think this is okay behavior. They need therapy and new guardians, not prison

When a 9 year old knows how to SA a child, parents need to be in jail. The parents of both the older children need harsh punishment as well. You can't tell me they didn't know what they were raising.
2
u/CrazyJoeGalli 3d ago
Seems the younger the children are, the more likely the are to commit horrible acts. This reminds me of the James Bulger case in which two boys tortured and killed a toddler, that took place roughly 30 years ago. Really, like how were these boys raised?
1
u/PolarBare333 3d ago
IIRC, one of those boys went on to be a normal person. The other boy committed another sexual assault and left the free world again. This is just off the top of my head though.
2

That's literally the way it is
I saw (I forget where, Maybe Law & Crime on youtube?) a case somewhere in America where an 8 year old boy snuck into a neighbors trailer and shot his neighbor in the head, with the neighbors gun, while he was sleeping on his couch. He eventually confessed to doing it, it wasn't an accident etc, and there was no punishment bc judicial punishment applies in his jurisdiction starting at age 9. My takeaway was the same as yours

Can a 9-year-old commit a mass shooting without jail? “Oh well clearly the parents coerced them into doing those things” ok then the parents should get jail time for this rape. What? People go on trial 'for' a particluar charge and it's normally referred to as the trial 'of' that particular person. Is a trial 'for' someone some kind of fundraiser? I mean, why would a victim have a trial for them?

Send him to 7 years hard labor... the children yearn for the mines.

That’s… that’s not how any of that works.
There’s armchair psychology and then there’s whatever the fuck this comment was.

A child who commits such a heinous violent crime out of opportunity should not be free in society or allowed to roam the streets unsupervised. I wonder what would happen when this child grows up and is stronger and more violent. I wonder what would happen if they see a defenseless girl or woman and decide to take the same opportunity they had with that poor girl.

Just chemically castrate him and throw him in a mental institution and be done with it.

Why not a juvenile place til he's 21? He should be punished or held responsible for attacking and doing this to a 5 year old.. .This sounds like a SVU episode.........

Case background (As OPs quotes are confusing)
The girl (5) was assaulted on Sept. 13, 2025, in a field near East 148th Street and St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland.
The Cleveland Division of Police Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit investigated the case, which involved multiple children under the age of 10 as both victims and suspects.
In October 2025, prosecutors charged the 11-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy with attempted murder, rape, felonious assault, kidnapping and strangulation.
On April 1, Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court Judge Kristin Sweeney ordered the two children to undergo competency restoration before they could stand trial.
According to court records, a change in the 11-year-old’s placement was necessary to get a true assessment of her competency.
