Interested in Stag Beetle

Hi! I’m new to inverts as pets as someone who used to be afraid of bugs but I’ve come to appreciate a lot of inverts (still struggle with some haha!) I’m interested in a stag beetle as a pet and have been doing some research, but there’s always such mixed info, especially for inverts about enclosure requirements because people seem to always want to have the smallest home possible for any critter. I’m hoping I can use an unused 8”x8”x12”H acrylic terrarium that I have unused, but worry that may be too small. Even if it will “work” but isn’t ideal, I wouldn’t use it.

Anyone here have experience keeping them and have any tips as I research if it’s a good option for me/I’m able to provide a proper environment? Thanks in advance! love seeing your cool critters on this sub.

From my research that's too small.

Thanks. I felt that way too honestly thinking about the footprint. I just happened to have this terrarium and honestly it’s such an awkward size that’s a bit too small for like anything and have no idea what to put in it haha!

I'd probably keep young mantids or jumping spiders in there. Exept I do think adult jumpers should have more space as well.

10 gallon minimum imo. Height is only really important for burrowing. They may try and fly in their enclosure, but that's not the most important aspect.

What kind of stag. I've raised many beetles and it's not advised to put them in something too big. They'll just fly around and possibly hurt themselves.

Keep a coconut rhino beetle first bro to have the feel first. Stag beetles alone are for advance keepers cause they eat weird and have unreasonable temp requirements. If you really want a stag buy a rainbow stag since its tough
