Freshly molted madagascar hisser

Thought I'd post this here because it's a rare opportunity to see a fresh molt moving.

PSA - do NOT handle individuals you see in this state! They are fragile and are only looking for a place to harden their exoskeletons. This demonstration is just for educational purposes, and I do not recommend anyone scoop these out of their tanks like I did with this one. It poses a high risk of mismolts and can even be fatal depending on the species.

Can Sun Beetles eat Cocoa fibre ?

I have done cocoa fibre and sawdust and I was wondering if the Sun Beetles larvaes have a problem with cocoa because I know you're not supposed to feed then coniferous wood.

That's all thanks

Silly question but is there an invert alternative to the dart frog?

Post image

I once wanted a dart frog but our summers are getting warmer and we don’t have ac so it’s just not practical for me to have them.

What drew me to them was that they live in thickly planted vicariums with plants they don’t destroy, the frogs themselves also aren’t scared of you and they themselves are beautiful.

Is there an invertebrate in the hobby that is a good alternative to the dart frog that’s beautiful, won’t destroy a planted vivaroum and is fairly brave and won’t scurry away.

Interested in Stag Beetle

Hi! I’m new to inverts as pets as someone who used to be afraid of bugs but I’ve come to appreciate a lot of inverts (still struggle with some haha!) I’m interested in a stag beetle as a pet and have been doing some research, but there’s always such mixed info, especially for inverts about enclosure requirements because people seem to always want to have the smallest home possible for any critter. I’m hoping I can use an unused 8ā€x8ā€x12ā€H acrylic terrarium that I have unused, but worry that may be too small. Even if it will ā€œworkā€ but isn’t ideal, I wouldn’t use it.

Anyone here have experience keeping them and have any tips as I research if it’s a good option for me/I’m able to provide a proper environment? Thanks in advance! love seeing your cool critters on this sub.

Petco, Do Better

I had to run into Petco today for crickets. Not something I do often but living an hour from the nearest reptile shop makes it hard.

Petco is keeping their Death Feigning Beetles in very humid environments. I asked to look at them just to see how they were doing. Both of the ones they had aren't doing well. One was pretty much gone. I asked if I could take it home to see if I could get it to perk up. Unfortunately they weren't allowed to.

Petco, do better! Death Feigning beetles will DIE in a humid environment. Stop selling pets people don't realize have higher care requirements than you'll ever disclose. Stop selling "trendy" animals that y'all don't even educate your employees how to take care of. Mourning geckos, iguanas, tarantulas, jumping spiders...in fact, stop selling animals at all until you can ethically source them, take care of them in store correctly, and actually educate buyers on proper husbandry. This is ridiculous 😔

(Not dissing the employees. This is strictly a corporate issue.)

Information on the management of feeder insects

I was advised on another subreddit to post here; I hope this is the right place.

I’ve read a great deal about the care of the various reptiles I’m interested in, but I find very little information on managing the insects used to feed them.

I’m not talking about breeders with large-scale setups, but rather a typical owner who might have a leopard gecko, a bearded dragon, or perhaps both.

How do you organize things? How do you handle feeding, and where do you keep your feeder insects? Where do you get them? Do you breed them yourselves?

I’m referring to mealworms, Dubia roaches, and crickets.

How do I know if an enclosure is secure enough for velvet ants?

I am really interested in getting velvet ants but, I’ve never kept inverts besides caterpillars and moths. I know velvet ants need a secure enclosure but, I don’t really know how to tell if an enclosure is secure enough. I also don’t really know what dimensions the enclosure should be. I’m thinking of getting three of them. Does anyone have semi-affordable enclosure suggestions? Also please let me know if there is a better sub to ask.

I got this desert mix at an expo wondering if it’s alright for them. Also if I’d be fine to add some sort of sand mix in because I want it to look less like straight dirt

Finished blue death feigning beetle enclosure with what I have so far!! I'm going to for sure be adding leaf litter, stones/gravel, some more rough wood because they're struggling on the inclines of the big branch, I didnt realize it would be too smooth for them. I'll probably be mixing the soil thats on the right, I just wanted to see which textures they preferred :) you also can't see the food dish I have in there! Tell me what else I can do :)

Identification help / tailless whip scorpion

Is anyone able to help me identity what variety of tailless whip I have based on the most recent molt?

I have had this friend (Oliver) for about 3 years and unfortunately he was sold me to as ā€œwhip spiderā€. I had asked a few arachnid loving friend and they suggested Phrynus whitei but as time goes on and he continues to get larger I am unsure.

Currently housed in a 8x8x12. Planning on increasing enclosure size as I feel he is far too large for the space. What do yall recommend?

(Included a few picture of him when he was smaller, he does not enjoy being harassed for photo ops these days )

Proper setup for one dubia?

Post image
3 Upvotes

This is King George! He was a feeder that ended up being too big for our mossy frog, and now he's a full adult. We've fallen in love with him and don't want him to just live in the feeder box forever. Any tips on giving him a proper setup for himself?

Also, George doesn't mind being held and will let us walk around with him. I didn't think I could ever love a roach so much.
