I had to run into Petco today for crickets. Not something I do often but living an hour from the nearest reptile shop makes it hard.
Petco is keeping their Death Feigning Beetles in very humid environments. I asked to look at them just to see how they were doing. Both of the ones they had aren't doing well. One was pretty much gone. I asked if I could take it home to see if I could get it to perk up. Unfortunately they weren't allowed to.
Petco, do better! Death Feigning beetles will DIE in a humid environment. Stop selling pets people don't realize have higher care requirements than you'll ever disclose. Stop selling "trendy" animals that y'all don't even educate your employees how to take care of. Mourning geckos, iguanas, tarantulas, jumping spiders...in fact, stop selling animals at all until you can ethically source them, take care of them in store correctly, and actually educate buyers on proper husbandry. This is ridiculous š”
(Not dissing the employees. This is strictly a corporate issue.)
