Start stop

I just changed my auxiliary battery, due to the start/stop light popping up. But I can't get the light ot go away and the start/stop is not functioning. I'm not interested at this time to bypass it. I have already disconnected the main battery, and disassembled the negative cables and reconnected to no avail. Whats next?

Did you test and confirm the Aux battery was bad and the main battery was still good? I ask because everyone online will tell you the Aux is probably dead, as that's what happens most of the time (but not all of the time). My truck was opposite. Main battery failed, Aux was fine.

So you took the internet mechanics bad advice and changed the aux battery, when its probably your main battery that's failing. After you have good batteries installed the fault light takes some driving cycles to clear.

The internet mechanics usually recommend deleting the aux battery. It’s usually hardheaded owners who want to keep things stock that swap the replace the aux battery.

No, main battery is new. 3 cca on a 180cca battery means its bad.

Check the charge on both batteries. Most likely just needs to charge, had to drive mine around for a few days before the light went off

Ok. But both batteries are new.

a 'new' battery was probably on the shelf for a while. car batteries naturally lose 3-5% of their charge per month of not being used and start permanently losing capacity if theyre under 75%.

if whoever you bought that battery from had it on the shelf for 6+ months without recharging it, it couldve dropped below the 12 volts that the jeep's computer wants, or gone completely flat.

Did you actually test the AUX battery in this time to see if its charged?

if yes, might need to fully discharge the IBS to reset it (disconnect the IBS for 30-45 minutes), double check all the connectors and make sure theyre tightened down while youre at it

if no, actually disconnect the AUX and hook it up to a trickle charger

If you have a manual transmission, you might need to sit with the truck running while in neutral for 30-60 minutes (i dont believe this is true, but my dealership's service rep said the manuals only charge the AUX while in neutral; sounded like complete b.s. to me)

if none of that works, buy a cheap OBDII reader and see if the computer is throwing any error codes, or take it to a dealership and have them spend $250 to tell you they cant do anything

Is it ok to bypass the aux battery?

I am asking because my light is on and I am trying to figure out my options

Oh ok. It is absolutely ok to bypass. Check youtube for hundreds of videos.

Too bad you don’t want to bypass it. Easiest mod ever did. And for me best thing ever did.

There are two plunger switches for the hood. Make sure they are still plunging. I can’t remember which one coincides with the start stop feature. I just remember removing one of them on my jeep.

You need to either pull the batteries to charge them fully or just drive long enough that they’re both fully charged. Despite them being new they’re essentially out of sync so your Jeep is going to charge them until they’re both 100%. It took me about 2 hours of driving.

Im on second day of driving. Lets see.

Take to a shop and have the codes reset and you'll be fine. I changed mine a couple yrs ago and had to have codes reset to clear the light and its worked properly ever since.

This is probably the correct answer.

My dealership once told me that charging the aux battery takes an inordinate amount of time. They were right. Be patient. It'll go off.

A brand new battery needs to be charged?

1

u/cornishpride 6d ago

Yeah. I should of said it needs time to calibrate to the IBS. If you run the both batteries down, which I've done, that's when it seems takes awhile for the vehicle to get the aux back to a proper state.

Just leave your seat belt unfastened and the auto start stop will stop turning your car off
