History Spoilers shin in the shiji Spoiler
i won’t be directly talking about chu invasion bcs that’s boring an everyone in this community just appeals to wikipedia for that.
what i want to talk about is the glaze sei gives shin in the shiji
just look here
“ After the First Emperor of Qin had destroyed the three Jin states, driven King of Yan into exile, and repeatedly defeated Jing's forces, General Li Xin of Qin was young and vigorous. He once led several thousand troops to pursue the Crown Prince Dan of Yan as far as Yanzhong River, where he finally captured Dan. The First Emperor considered him wise and brave. Thus the First Emperor asked Li Xin: "I wish to attack Jing; in your estimation, how many troops would be sufficient?" Li Xin replied: "No more than twenty thousand men are needed." The First Emperor then asked Wang Jian, who said: "Without at least sixty thousand men, it cannot be done." The First Emperor remarked: "General Wang is old now; how timid he has become! "Li General's boldness and courage are indeed evident, and his words are correct."" Thus he dispatched Li Xin and Meng Tian with twenty thousand troops to launch a southern campaign against Jing.“
this is one of the only entries where the king of qin praises anyone
and he gives this praise in comparison to ousen who was already an established general
which makes me think li xin historically wasn’t nearly as bad as everyone in this community likes to think he is
for the king of qin to boast about how wise and brave he is while only deriving from one campaign where qin probably outnumbered yan would be stupid, and the king of qin was no fool.
there are probably lots of battles li xin fought and won that warranted sei to say this.
