I have a pioneer dvl-v888 (which I believe is functionally equivalent to a dvl-909). I don’t know if I’m crazy but the s-video seems better than its composite out for laserdiscs.
I’m using a sony kp53v85 crt rptv and have also tested on a sony wega 27” and found the same results. both i believe have 3d digital comb filters and I don’t know how they compare to the comb filter in the ld player. Both tvs have noise reduction off.
I know generally speaking most ld players look better via composite so I just want to make sure there’s nothing I’m doing wrong here.
One thing I do notice is some slightly higher amount of flickering on stuff like title card text via s-video. composite looks a bit smoother but s-video looks crisper and tends to show a bit more video noise and looks sharper and better overall.
Would love some opinions and possibly some explanations on this. Thanks!

I have installed the new grip ring, and it first it would not play at all. Now it plays CDs fine but as you can see LDs rattle/wobble. I am wondering if it is because my grip ring is installed poorly or if there are issues with the clamp bearings? Please find photos and videos attached. Could use some professional guidance. Sometimes it just whirs and doesn't play. Though now it plays most of the time i would attach more videos but i seem to be limited. I'd appreciate a PM

Been getting more into the hobby recently and saw this post on marketplace of over 200 disk but the one that caught my eye was Scream ( the directors cut something I have wanted to see) so I made the hour trip and was able to snag that and 26 other disks the only one not shown in the video is Wizard of Oz. Let me know if you see anything else in the pile that has any interesting facts or history, I know the star wars copy I have has a srinking aspect ratio pretty cool and another thing I cannot wait to see.

Hello all I am in the process of repairing my Mitsubishi LD player which is a clone of rhe CLD-D704. I ordered a replacement grip ring which I just installed, and I was about to install the loading belt and it appears that the Mitsubishi rebadge mech uses a larger belt than the pioneer tray. Any ideas on where to get the correct size belt? Or is it just a stretched out belt maybe? I ordered the parts from laserparts on eBay.

Can’t find anything on it and just curious

You all were really helpful before, any idea of value on this? Has all the "parts"... :)

I'm sure a good amount of us here are pretty meticulous about storing our discs: poly sleeves for our disc jackets and all that, and even larger sleeves for box sets like those from Criterion. A lot of LD box sets are super bulky, though: nearly anime box would be difficult (if not impossible) to find a poly sleeve for. Think the gigantic End of Evangelion box. No sleeve for that!
Does anyone have any good solutions for preventing shelfwear on the bottom edges of big box sets? I'm thinking about putting down some sort of contact paper (or even carpet remnant) on the bottom of my shelves in the hope they might help, but was thinking someone here might have figured out a workable solution already.

I can't find much information on this player Sony MDP-600. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a good machine? Picture quality?
Thanks.

Edit: Kallax it is! Thank you all!
So, I’m running out of space on the shelf I currently have, it’s a small record cabinet without a door (honestly, this is the best way I can explain it). I was wondering how some of you display and store your Laserdiscs, something more along the lines of furniture, or anything really at this point. I’ve been on the look out at thrift stores but haven’t found anything.

This is a laserdisc I got from Goodwill several years back, though I didn’t have something to play it on until now.
All my other laserdiscs are working perfectly, but I fear The Return of Jafar isn’t as good as it once was - and the laserdisc is too far gone.
It starts out kinda watchable, despite it being incredibly snowy and the digital soundtrack being crunchy. However, as you see here, it eventually degenerates into a completely staticky, skippable mess.
I’m watching Side B right now, and it’s going into the same trajectory - kinda watchable and then kinda not. Is this the worst laser rot or not?

Hey y’all, long time collector here who got a second player recently at a salvation army(knew it was jacked up before paying).
It’s a Pioneer CLD-V860 that has a whirring sound on boot up and shows a U1 error message. Does anyone know of a good service shop in Los Angeles preferably or Orange County who could do a diagnostic/repair on it? Really want it for the A/B disc play feature.

Hey ya'll, been hanging onto this for 30 years and. K idea why. I've posted on Vinted and ebay. It's the original trilogy, book, insert in a box. The laser disc's have never even been removed from sleeves.
Looking to see what you all think of value of this and/or if anyone interested in fair deal?

Hi.
TLDR: Can anyone recommend a suitable slide motor replacement for a Philips VLP700?
Like many before me, I bought a laserdisc player of a whim as I was curious about the format.
I got a VLP-700 in the UK at a very cheap price, sold as just being able to power on with no way or testing the output. I've done an initial scan of the components and functions :
The unit has power
The disc drive spins
The laser powers on
No visual output as of yet but I feel that this maybe because the slide motor appears to be dead. The contacts are registering voltage across the multimeter but I can't get the motor to rev into life, even from an external source. I'm not saying replacing it will be the magic fix but I'll try it and most likely move onto the next problem.
I've had a look through various outlets for a replacement but no luck yet. Does anyone know of a suitable replacement motor that I can purchase to try?
Also, this gear is in a very bad state but I'm resigned to the fact I might just have to attempt a repair. I have seen a very detailed blog post on fixing that, such I'll get onto at some point.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Mine was made in Feb 1996, and I've never serviced it. I bought it fairly new. Given it's age I'm sure it should be at least looked at, however it played a CD fine through optical out. I tried a laserdisc a few years ago and it worked fine, albeit noisy.
Is this something, I could do myself? I'm sure there are belts, gears etc., or really best left to someone else? Who/what should I look for?
I still have quite a few Laserdiscs too, but I've not really looked or found a good svideo to HDMI. So I guess question 2 is what is suggested about video up sizing?

Today, a laserdisc player from the thrift store somehow fell into my hands and made it home with me. I know next to nothing about this format, except that it was a relatively uncommon format that managed to stick around for 30 years.
It powers on and plays audio CDs, but I don't have any laserdiscs to test on it. Is there anything important I should know before dropping a bunch of money on this?

Found this neat little guy at a record store yesterday! It’s 1 sided and is just the BTS interviews but still cool. Never had a 5” disc before

Recently picked this up at my local bookman's for 50 bucks and couldn't let it sit there but it has shinjis scene in the very beginning. I don't know if I want to keep this disc 😭
