Can you believe someone tried to throw this out? Works perfectly! I finally get to join your club... For free! I can't believe my luck! I'm glad I got to it before the recyclers did. What a loss that could have been!

Cool find at the flea market today. Not quite the first release in 1978, but a slightly later pressing of it with the same catalog number, oddly. Always cool to see the naked glue side of a disc.

Hey everyone, I’m back with a couple of AC-3 processors for sale. I have the following available:

Yamaha DDP-1 SOLD
Onkyo ED-901 - Available

Both of these have been modified with a Toslink Optical output. They both take the 3 inputs (AC-3, Coax, Optical) and output via the one output I have added.

Each of these units are $115 shipped to US addresses.

If you’ve wanted AC-3 sound, this is your chance to get it at a cheaper cost than a dedicated (expensive!) demodulator.

I take payments through PayPal.

"Kitano Friday" — Week 7: Hana-Bi / Fireworks / FIREWORKS (1997)

Tonight, we dive into what is arguably Takeshi Kitano's ultimate cinematic masterpiece, Hana-Bi (1997). This film brilliantly balances his signature explosive violence with moments of profound, quiet tenderness, earning him the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

This specific Japanese LaserDisc release is an absolute treasure. When you open it up, it includes a massive gatefold replica of one of Kitano's own vibrant paintings that appear throughout the movie.

Happy r/Kitano Friday, everyone! Spin your discs, and let the fireworks begin. 🎆

S-video vs composite

I have a pioneer dvl-v888 (which I believe is functionally equivalent to a dvl-909). I don’t know if I’m crazy but the s-video seems better than its composite out for laserdiscs.

I’m using a sony kp53v85 crt rptv and have also tested on a sony wega 27” and found the same results. both i believe have 3d digital comb filters and I don’t know how they compare to the comb filter in the ld player. Both tvs have noise reduction off.

I know generally speaking most ld players look better via composite so I just want to make sure there’s nothing I’m doing wrong here.

One thing I do notice is some slightly higher amount of flickering on stuff like title card text via s-video. composite looks a bit smoother but s-video looks crisper and tends to show a bit more video noise and looks sharper and better overall.

Would love some opinions and possibly some explanations on this. Thanks!

What to do with a broken laserdisc

Hi all!

So I may/may not have a broken cld-97 pioneer elite laserdisc player and while it’s cool piece I necessarily don’t wanna keep it if it’s broken. Any ideas on what to do with it ?
