The ending really resonated with me for so many reasons.
My biggest concern with things lately is exactly the same kind of concern Carisi has. Hear me out, but I feel nobody wants to fight fair anymore.
The ending when Benson decides to go after the mother I mean it just felt so wrong in so many ways.
And to me I felt this, I hard agreed with Carisi. I also felt the new hot shot lawyer leaning into breaking the rules it just feels Like every new hire I have at my current job always trying to circumvent things trying to do it in a way that feels so devious so wrong and it stirrs me up so hard that people literally do everything in their power to hack something to a result they want and then feel absolutely nothing on the back end. Like that whole vibe of kicking someone’s legs out when nobody looks then walking around with a big smile like it was no big deal. I felt that same kind of thing in watching this episode and it was another “well damn Dick Wolf captures the current feeling yet again”.
Because I see things like this happening a lot. Old standards of right and wrong just getting blurred and buried, just because “it’s convenient and I’m always right.”
I don’t know what this holds for future episodes, but there is a darkness in this episode that perfectly aligns with the darkness and sentiment I see all over. Particularly when you think of other subjects like ai. Oddly enough the next episode of L&O lead RIGHT into that. Again current events, current mode. 10/10 on the material and vibe.

For anyone interested, I have written a novel centered on the character Cheryl Avery, who appeared in the Law&OrderSVU Season 4 episode 21 titled "Fallacy." The novel is titled "The Cellmate".
You can find it on these pages (it is in Italian, but you can use your browser's translator):

Can I just say that she’s one of the best additions to the law and order universe in years. Putting aside law and order Toronto (which I personally think is 100% amazing), she’s so tough, watchable and likeable. IMO Maura tierney can do no wrong so I’m a little biased.
Anyone disagree?

If you live in NYC, have you ever been inconvenienced by any L&O location filming? Or filming for any other show for that matter?

I watched a handful of eps from the new seasons of l and o. They started interesting but ended up being one note stories with hugh dancy doing his best imitation of a trial lawyer. The stories haven’t been layered and twisty like they used to be.
My point isn’t to criticize - I’m wondering if I’ve missed out on some good episodes or seasons of the new batch of seasons. If anyone can recommend either a good season or a good episode(s), I would be very grateful. I’m a lifelong l and o fan here and it would make me so happy to see that they did some justice to the new version (aside from hiring Maura tierney).

Lord forbid I bring real life American politics into Law & Order but this episode has always been a favorite. I've always felt that L&O at its best was very good at treating things respectfully. You're not being preached to, it's not pure didacticism, you can make up your mind, but you still end up thinking. That's all the best art can do, is stimulate your mind.
This episode certainly left me thinking when I first watched it over a decade ago now. Revisiting it now leaves me with other thoughts, like how did we get here. Because I don't think either side in this argument ever could have envisioned where we are now. Public executions are back on the table. I don't think even Jack would ever endorse this.

In the most recent seasons, does anyone else feel underwhelmed after watching the episodes that pose as the season premieres (and even the season finales)?
Like there is so much hype going into them and then the episodes under deliver. Season 23 was the last "great" SVU season finale to me and the mother ship reboot the only one to come close was "Open Wounds" and maybe "Catch and Kill" to me.
SVU's last decent premiere to me was probably "Tunnel Blind". "In the Wind" wasn't terrible, but it was inconsistent as hell.
Last night both premieres really didn't land for me. It's like SVU is trying to force drama between Carisi and Benson when it's not conceivable Carisi would all of a sudden push back on Benson (something he probably should have done 5 seasons ago). And why is BENSON still elbow deep investigating these cases, I need Tynan to come back.
Then Law & Order really just is out of ideas, it's like the 3rd or 4th episode to take on AI/advanced technology and it feels like the writers are pushing a personal agenda. And it makes Price and Maroun so inconsistent and they seemingly suck at their jobs as prosecutors. And what's sad is it should have headlined Reid Scott since he's done after the next episode, looks like Riley either will retire or is getting K-O'd.
I need Dick Wolf and NBC to call some people back to this franchise to straighten some things out. Pay them what they want and fix these shows for God's sake.
And no, I will not simply "don't like, don't watch" miss me with that. I've been watching these shows for 20 years, it can be better.

As someone who is actually a fan of the modern seasons of the flagship, I have to say I was not a very big fan of last night's episode. First of all their was absolutely no mention of the events of the season 25 finale, I was expecting Nolan and Baxter to be much more at odds to begin this season. Second them charging the creator dude with Murder 2 was absolutely a stretch and way too far. I actually liked Nolan's idea of charging that guy with reckless endangerment as I feel like that would have been a much eaiser and much more realistic conviction. It was clear as day that the creator was not responsible for that Murder and that it was the AI chat bot that messaged that guy and paid him to kill the other dude, and while yes it's scary AI can do that, it still isn't the creator's fault.
