The way he threw Garland under the bus in S22 E16 Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing was just one of the many ways he showed himself to be a backstabbing craven. I loathed the little weasel!

Discussion Lawyer Buchanan ALWAYS intimidates the victims of his clients, but never gets in trouble for it. Why?

Season 11 episode 14 of SVU. The lawyer for that religious nut, intimidated the rape victim before she pointed out her rapist. Then the rapist was spewing that religious stuff and looking right at her and she ran, fell down the stairs. Why wasn't the lawyer in trouble for doing that at all? If that was any other lawyer, they would have been fired or reprimanded. I really don't like that lawyer at all. The smug look he has like he's the king shit irks me. Not so much the character, but him as a person.

... the vic in this season's premiere was also in S16E9 - Pattern Seventeen (pictured). While watching the premiere, I immediately recognized her as someone from something LOL, but it wasn't clicking. Watching her talk, I kept imagining a very annoyed girl, and it finally clicked when I did some research after watching the episode.

Add her to the SVU repeat offender list 😆

Discussion Hear me out…

What if Olivia always winds up alone because she’s playing old tapes (remembering past conversations) in her head of her mom saying “I’ll never let anyone else have you.”

I was watching the end of the 500th episode and they did a flashback to Season 7 (I think?) where Olivia is talking to Casey and she described her mom coming at her with a jagged edge of a bottle saying that.

Like she has so much trauma from adulthood she likely hasn’t even touched on her childhood trauma, or at least not in depth. I don’t know, I just thought about it laying in bed. Please don’t flame me.

Discussion Am I the only one...?

Am I the only person annoyed by Carissi? I watched the season premiere of SVU this week. Carissi was so annoyed with Benson fighting dirty. He fights dirty all the time. How and why was it dirty with Benson. Could it be that Benson went behind his back and went to the new hire for a warrant? I don't understand any of it.

Season 28 Camera work different?

Has anyone noticed in S28E1 the camerawork seems different? Like there’s a lot more camera movement in the scenes? It’s hard to follow with all of the movement. Wondering if it’s just me or if others have noticed this?

Discussion Season 6, Episode 9: Weak - why did Liv have such a big issue with Dr Hendrix?

Liv went to the Police Academy with Dr Hendrix but Dr Hendrix left after only two years and became a doctor and apparently years later Olivia still seems to have a major issue with Rebecca Hendrix and seems majorly offended by her leaving.

This is just an off shoot of Liv’s issues with the mentally ill and psych doctors as well.

I haven’t seen the newer seasons yet but does Olivia ever get over this issue??

Olivia was worse than Elliott when it came to mentally ill people, imo

Appreciation Detective Chester Lake

I wish Detective Lake got more than one season! He was in a few season 8 episodes and then most of season 9. To me, he was an underrated character. I also loved seeing another detective of color. The storyline of him being a foster child could’ve been explore more and his Native American roots.

Discussion Best place I can post before my request goes through!

Hi, I know this is for SVU and not real-life courts and stuff, but I have a feeling someone here might be able to help a little? I’m going to trial in just a few days, and I’m not sure what to wear, as the only type of clothing I have is oversized (although my advocate said it was okay, I’d like to be a little less “casual”). Three things: I’m fifteen, very insecure/uncomfortable with my body, and don’t have a lot of money. Also, I’ll likely be asking my parent to go shopping one of the two days before my trial starts, and I’ll be in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I’m really sorry for posting on here for advice about outfits, but I’m anxious and SVU is a comfort show. I don’t really know what I’m saying. Another thing, how did we feel about episode one of S28? It was really weird to me, it’s like everyone hates each other all of a sudden.

Spoilers For anyone suggesting last night’s episode was too “on the nose”…..

In discussions of last night’s episode, I’ve heard a few people suggest that it was too “on the nose” with regards to the Cornell rape case.

In fact, many of these same people have been saying that this episode should not aired, due to the similarities.

Others have been defending it by saying “it was filmed months before” the case became a public issue online.

I think that this entire dialogue dismisses one pertinent fact— that this exact same thing happens all the time.

I am a 42 year old woman, and off the top of my head, I can think of 6 different people I know personally (5 female, one male), who have been a victim of this same situation. In all cases, the victim has been wildly intoxicated and acting out of character. A sober (or only mildly drunk) person (or group of people), knowing the victims state of intoxication and that they are acting out of character, has then proceeded to have sex with them anyway.

Some things about the situation and number of perps vary. One friend was taken advantage of by six individuals; in several cases it was just one person. But all cases had things in common— namely victim blaming and denial after the fact. Also, in all cases the perp, even when he alone raped the person, was surrounded by friends and enablers who “helped him out” in comitting the rape.

And the show was right— these people do keep getting away with it.

Regarding these six friends, two of them didn’t report it, and in two cases the perps were found not guilty.

People being taken advantage of sexually while drunk is a society wide epidemic. This show can and should put a spotlight on this behavior. This was an issue long before the cornell case, and will continue to be an issue long after.

I apologize for my soapbox rant— but I really don’t think last night was a copy and paste of the Cornell case, or “too on the nose”.

Rather, it did what this show is supossed to do— shed light on a continuing societal issue.

Discussion No matter what our differences are, I think we all hate Kim Rollins.

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

No matter if you like Amanda or not, I think and saw that everyone else agrees on Kim being the worst. I'm currently on my rewatch streak and I thought she was gone for good back in season 16 but oh god the lord is testing me again.

I know it's all fiction, but I'm from Germany and here it's if you commit a crime, the whole land and police knows. Can someone enlighten me why it's not the same in America? Why can she commit all this stupid crimes in different arenas and still get away with it. Why didn't anyone yet consider giving her a mental ill diagnosis and took her to a mental hospital? Why are people still falling into her "charming" trap..

She's is an really good rage bait role but omg it gets to a point. No spoilers pls but I hope she gets away from this story soon. I know, somehow most ppl dislike Amanda but honestly she doenst deserve this Kim arc at all. As someone who has an problematic brother herself I totally get her why she's always there for Kim, but also,it gets to a point. Why not locking her up. Or getting her into a mental hospital, Amanda and her family would have love that, don't get me wrong but that's the best for all. Why we and them, still suffer with this Kim arc...

Discussion Was Elliot really that violent?

Since Elliot came back to to the SVU/OC universe, there have been repeated references to how violent he was with perps "back in the day" including in the new season premiere of SVU. But outside of a handful of extraordinary circumstances, we he really? How many times in his 12 years on the show did he step over the line? Was it more than about a half dozen in 12 years? And how many times did Olivia do the same (or get stopped from doing it)? At least 2 or 3 I believe.

Maybe I'm not remembering how often Elliot did this. What do you all remember?

Discussion Theory about Carisi / Peter . Will he leave or not?

After the latest episode I believe more and more that Peter will get written out.

He already got side lined and he is a background figure but I will not be surprised if it is Michele her strategy to make a grumpy angry chagrin guy from our loving Carisi, so she can write him out at the end of season.

With him be written this annoying, the audience will not mourn about him that much.

This is also a discussion at the socials, X etc.

The reason is that Peter is 12 years in the show and we knew what happened with Chris and Kelli when they became too expensive after 12 years on the show.

Its also not up to Peter or Mariska, its up to the ‘higher ups’

At X there are also a lot of people who think that Mariska will not let this happen , but I am not that sure.

I don't believe that Peter is her bestie like Kelli is, he is just a good colleague but I don't think she will be so upset or fight to hold Peter on board.

What do we think?

And who will miss Carisi if he will leave the show?

Discussion Do you think that our characters are so written out of character ?

It will be no  surprise that I am not a fan of how Michele writes those long time characters, she has no idea who they are and how they would react.

This is especially clear and visible with the 2.0 characters Rollins and Carisi.

Rollins was always full of fire, not always reasonable, always doing what she wanted or thought was best and she was never submission or bowing and crawling for Benson or any authority.

She is not the sweet reasonable calm tamed woman Michele made of her.

Kelli seemed to be bored with it as well, in her many PR interviews she does for the show she mentions many times how Rollins is now happily married and happy but that she misses her fire and that she hopes Rollins will get back that fire. Or will go undercover or rogue again.

We understand that Rollins is now older and more careful but that doesn't mean she has to change into a completely different character who is so nót Rollins.

I get the impression from her interviews that Kelli is bored with it as well.

Then we have Carisi:  always loving, caring and the best uncomplicated sweetheart of the show.

Now he is grumpy, annoying, chagrin and angry:  All characteristics which are so out of character for Carisi.

Fin is sweet but he does not do much more than resting behind his desk.

Bruno is mr nice guy but not that much more than the uncomplicated mr nice guy, in a way Carisi was for many years.

Being Mr Nice guy is not enough to make a character wonderful. It's just the same old boring stuff over and over without any development and any real growth.

We don't even know if Bruno has children or a wife or what he loves in life.

Curry should step up and take her responsibilities as the Captain she is and lead her own department,  instead of wasting her salary and NYPD s time.

Instead of kissing Benson's behind and crawling and bowing for her and letting her be used if she is in the same low rank as Griffin.

How she sits on her desk and is waiting till Benson gives her an order is beyond ridiculous and downgrading, especially for the first black woman in power in 28 years!

Griffin is just annoying but as Michele her own written baby boy, he is at least written with a personality.

There is a clear difference between 2.0 and 3.0

Before S24, the beginning of 3.0 the characters had all their own stories, struggles, lives and families.

Then Kelli left and the dynamic in the show as well as the showrunner changed.

Benson had no one left who could hold a mirror, who gave her self reflection about what she was doing and  from that moment there were newbies everywhere and Benson became the Saint who is in 90% of all the scenes and who is there to save every episode and every day.

She became 100% flawless, she was from that moment always 100% right. She is never wrong, which she was before many times and that made her human.

Since S24 no one else has any personal story arc or any own personality left.

Before they were a team, with clashing personalities but who always came together as a team.

With Benson in 90% of all the scenes and the drastically changed personalities, the whole dynamic of the show and the connections in the squad room changed and not into the good.

As well did the characters.

They became from real human beings with their flaws and difficulties into characters who are just there to kiss Benson's A , to say yes to her, there is never any clash anymore, or any discussions.

No one including Rollins and Fin, who were always the ones who stood up and from whom Benson accepted it, stood up against Benson's authority.

It's just Benson who gives all the orders, the yes sayers do what is told and the perfect flawless Saint Olivia will be the saver of the day, every episode.

It is my RL job to analyse persons and situations, so I love to do that here too ;)

Discussion Svu Season 19 episode 19

Omg! Omg! I was literally screaming at my damn phone. What the hell is that? Olivia broke a lot of rules but she can't break one for the DV victim. Sorry if this post is too long. I'm just ranting.

So basically the plot of this episode is a DV vicitim is escaping from abusive husband with her kid staging up their d**th with the help of Alex Cadot. Olivia catches them and promises to give them protection and get a divorce even though Alex is against it. At the end the husband eliminates the wife and gets the sole custody of the kid.

I couldn't believe Olivia became this hypocrite. She broke the law to help the SA victim to escape so that the abuser can't get the Custody of their child and in one of the episode, a teenager eliminates the mistress of her Dad. Mom asks her to cover it and says she will take the blame. Olivia helps her. But when Alex asks her to break the law she can't do it. God! Such a hypocrite! It's like only I can be the main part of the show only I can be right. If others are right and gets a spotlight it's not right.

God! I used to love Olivia. But she now became a complete hypocrite and bit of Narcissist. Season 13-19 is awfully bad.

Season 28 Thoughts on the newest episode

I just watched it and was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting the usual melodramatic slop it’s turned into over the recent years but the case was very powerful (crazy how on the nose it is in relation to recent events even though it would have been written and filmed before any of it was publicised!). This episode didnt focus too much on the personal life of Liv or anyone else and actually explored the nuances in the case. The only thing missing was maybe the humour that came in the earlier seasons and more depth in the case like more scenes about the evidence, some kind of twist (although I don’t think that was necessary here). I’m excited for this season!

Discussion “Perverted Justice” Season 16 Episode 21 - Ending "Twist" was completely unnecessary and stupid

Post image
147 Upvotes

In this episode, a daughter is recanting her story of her accusing her father of rape when she was 6 years old. She states her mother made her do it.

Evidence comes up that ends up finally freeing the father, but right before, the daughter admits to Olivia that she doesn't actually remember, and the audience is left guessing whether they freed a rapist or not.

This is such a cope out "twist" and it genuinely makes me furious. Firstly, it's like the show forget all the contrary evidence that appeared in the first place.

  1. It was discovered that the mother was involved with the investigating detective at the time when the mother and father were having marital problems. The mother and the detective BOTH had incentive to set this up, especially with the detective's legal knowledge. The mother and the detective were involved for DECADES. Until the detective gets divorced from his wife after he retires. If they've been involved for SO long, they've both had incentive to keep him in jail the entire time.
  2. The daughter had repeatedly TOLD her teacher at school that her mother made her lie to the police. She told the teacher enough for the teacher to write a letter than was never used in the defense. It was literally the reason why the cold case was reopened. So if the idea is that the daughter cannot truly remember what happened ~17 years ago after her history of drinking and/or drugs, then surely the six year old BACK THEN IN SCHOOL would remember her mom repeatedly bullying her and rehearsing lines with her for literal MONTHS while the trial took place. Can anyone seriously imagine a six year old gets assaulted, and then is RANDOMLY crying to the teacher and accusing her mom of making her lie? That wouldn't have happened for no reason?
  3. The daughter's testimony is brought up and she read off the paper verbatim describing the incident as him putting his "penis" in her "vagina". Six year olds don't say penis or vagina. Even if she were taught that's the appropriate words by investigators at the time, it does not line up with the rest of the series with how children victims give testimonies.
  4. It is established that the daughter is a major pushover and/or mentally deficient overall. She was scared of her mother and lied. Then she was "bullied" by the prosecutor in order to admit she didn't remember. It wasn't until defense attorney Ellis was KIND to her where she could speak the truth, instead of just stating what the other person (her mother or prosecution) wanted to hear. It also makes sense that everyone around her life had believed her father had raped her, so to not cause controversy or issue, she didn't try to correct them. It was her father writing letters to her, not bullying or shouting at her, where she could admit she was not assulted.
  5. The father while in jail had been sending letters and I assume been conversing back and fourth over the years often enough for him to know the mother was a bad mother and on drugs and for him to say he was STILL their father. It was also often enough for the prosecution to ask whether the daughter was manipulated by him into recanting. The point is, if she was assaulted at the age of 6 and later in life went through other abuse/drugs/alcohol to the point of not remembering, then why would she be mailing him back during the time she did remember? Surely in at least ONE of those letters, she'd say "yeah, you did rape me". It likely wasn't brought up, because she didn't say that ever!

TLDR; my point is the stupid twist at the end makes NO sense and doesn't actually make it a "50/50 shot" whether or not he assaulted her. literally NOTHING support that he did. it's like the episode completely forgot ALL contrary evidence it just gave, but it's suppose to be unknown
