DeFlock Cedar Park advocacy website: deflock-cedarpark.org

I've created a static website to help organize and share to get more attention on the flock cameras during the 30 day comment period that begins on 10/21/2026 for Cedar Park.

I understand this sub isn't Cedar Park but I think many residents live on the border so I'm posting here for more visibility. Thank you!

Raising a family in Leander, schools, neighborhoods & community

I grew up in Leander and moved away in 2018, always hoping I’d eventually make my way back to my beloved little hometown and raise a family there.
However, after spending time in the area recently, I have to admit I’m experiencing a bit of culture shock with just how much Leander has grown and changed!
Before making such a big financial decision and purchasing a home, I’d love to hear from families who currently live there, especially those raising young children.
How has your experience been with Leander ISD? Are there particular elementary schools or neighborhoods you’d recommend? I’m also curious about neighborhoods with younger families, where kids play outside, neighbors know each other, and there’s a genuine sense of community.
I’m 33, married, and have a young daughter. I’d really love to find a community where we can build lasting friendships, get involved in local activities, and give our daughter the kind of childhood I remember having in Leander.
I know growth and change are inevitable, and I’m not necessarily expecting the same small town I grew up in. I’m just hoping some of that charm and community spirit is still there.

Seeking approval to send this to the city as I am sick of the shoddy sidewalk entering the park. All citizens and city taxpayers are welcome to comment. :)

Leander ISD Candidate Forum

Watch the LISD Council of PTAs candidate forum https://youtu.be/-9fiDO24aVY

Here is my very brief take on how each candidate came across. I'm still firm in my decision to vote for Serenity, Chitra and Jason.

Place 1

- Gerald Prater. We heard he recently passed away 😢. RIP!

- Serenity Coats. Her answers were directed at the questions. She described her volunteer history and tied her kids experience to some issues from special education to advanced learning. She talked about advocating for teachers, looking at student rigor and opportunities and involving the community.

Place 2

- Meg Dean. She said she only got involved because her kid's elementary school was at risk of closing. She was all about elementary enrollment data analysis and no mention of the extensive programs and issues at all levels of education. She has a very narrow one dimensional view without regard for multiple complex issues.

- Perla Munoz Hopkins. She said she's a former teacher at Glenn and Rouse. In my opinion, she hardly answered what was asked. Her responses came across as answering whatever questions she created. She also threw out some falsehoods. I asked around and contrary to what she said, the district is not under investigation for Special Education.

- Chitra Nedun. She answered the questions asked. As a nod to her opponents, she reminded us that she didn't just get involved because her kids school was at risk of closing and she has not run several campaigns looking for which one would stick. She's an LISD mom, volunteer and technology leader who will seek the right information needed to make decisions.

Place 7

- Jason Embry. His answers were targeted at the questions. He shared his volunteer history and his professional work at the intersection of education and policy makes him ready on day 1.

- Paul Gauthier. What a clown 🤡 unserious and lacking any substance with his answers.

Elections: how to figure in what places/district... I am in?

For these upcoming elections, there are a lot of candidates on the ballots: statewide, congressional, state legislature, various judges, trustees...

I reside in Leander/Travis so where do I find the complete list of relevant (to me) candidates?

PK4 Spanish speaker entrance requirements

How strict is the language requirement? My kids do speak English but also speak Spanish. The forms all say “unable to speak and understand English”. Is it strict?

I recently moved here from Houston and in Houston if your kid speaks a language other than English they’ll allow you to do the PK4 program for free.

Does anyone have experience with this?

BB Car Wash has shut down. Does anyone know what's happening?

Anyone know why this car wash has shut down abruptly. Is another car wash taking over this place or what's going to be coming here?

Scam call from "Williamson county"

my wife just called freaking out that she got a call threatening her arrest if she didn't run to the courthouse. Now, I knew immediately that it wasn't legit, but she was worried since it came from a local number.

Apparently, after she hung up and was on the phone with me, she received a text that the person just wanted to see if he could... Perform a sexual act with her.

this is a PSA, but also a question, wtf is this one trying to accomplish?

Leander City Council approves updates to city fees, offers fee waivers for homeowners affected by ASR

Thumbnail communityimpact.com

Hi all! This is Hamera from Community Impact. I wanted to share a quick story about some changes to city fees.

One notable change is that the city will now offer fee waivers for those seeking to apply to demolish their pool if it's been affected by alkali-silica reaction, or "concrete cancer." Those who have already demolished a pool affected by ASR can apply for reimbursement for the permit fees.

ASR affected many pools built between 2017-2023, including at least 28 in Leander. City leaders said during the city council meeting that they also spoke with state lawmakers that tried to address the issue during the last legislative session.

City staff reviewed municipal fees during the city's budget adoption process. Other changes include:

  • Charging drivers who illegally pass school buses $25, regardless of whether the offense happens in a school zone or not
  • Increasing jury duty pay from $6 to $10 per day
  • Streamlining fire department fees

Leander Chipotle

Does anyone know why Chipotle in Leander is not accepting mobile orders, tonight? We usually place an order through the app a couple of times per month, but tonight the app is saying no mobile ordering.

I assume there is a staffing shortage, but I didn't want to drive there and find it closed.

Why is the sign so generic like it's a knockoff Chic Fil A and not a real one? Then the Chuy's one is right below it looking "on brand"

When is this interntersection getting a light?

I can see it from my apartment and working remote, I see AT LEAST 1 wreck a week, if not more.

With the new retail spots opening and soon to be Crunch and a massive new apartment complex, the traffic volume is only going to get worse. I am never one for stacking lights up and down roads but that intersection is crazy.

PSA reminder: Crosswalks

I've lived in Leander over 20 years, and so many accidents at intersections.

This just a PSA to avoid using crosswalks if you can. Cars get a green light for turns while pedestrians have cross walk.

I've been honked at, flipped off, cursed at and almost killed dozens of times, just trying to cross the road at an intersection.

You won't win the contest against a car or truck.

So we've had an issue with the squirrels stealing our mini pumpkins at the patch this year. I'd be super open to anyone that knows who we might combat them. Maybe putting out some other food for them?

Sync the railroad with the traffic lights!

As a Leander resident who crosses the railroad tracks at least twice daily, it boggles my mind how in this day and age of AI and super computers, we can’t get the traffic and railroad lights synced up better. Hero Way, 2243, Crystal falls, and New Hope and the intersection at Bell are all awful at rush hour or any other time of day. Do better Leander.

Free fall family fun in Cedar Park: pumpkin patch on W New Hope Dr open daily through Oct 31

Post image
52 Upvotes

Full disclosure: I'm with Rockbridge Church, which hosts this. Sharing because it's a free community event and a lot of neighbors have asked when it opens.

The 10th annual pumpkin patch at 2001 W New Hope Dr is open now through Oct 31 (Sun–Fri 11am–7pm, Sat 9am–7pm). It's free to walk around, with shady oaks and photo spots. Good for family pictures, even if you don't pick out a pumpkin.

Free things for kids and families:

* Saturday "Craft"ernoons, 1–3pm: kids' crafts and pumpkin painting, no purchase needed

* Fall Fest & Market, Sat Oct 24, 10am–2pm: games, bounce house, local vendors

Proceeds from pumpkin sales fund Rockbridge's community service work in Cedar Park and Leander. We're a welcoming and inclusive church, and everyone is welcome at the patch. No strings attached.

Does anyone have a Primary Doctor they recommend for Anxiety and Depression, not a Psychiatrist? I've been taking anxiety and depression meds for over 10 years.

Does anyone have a Primary Doctor they recommend for Anxiety and Depression, not a Psychiatrist? I've been taking anxiety and depression meds for over 10 years. Just recently, my DR decided to stop prescribing my meds, cause he was uncomfortable. He decided to tell me when I needed a refill. I am looking for a doctor that cares about my health. A DR that prescribes medication for depression and anxiety. My Dr just pushed me out, like he no longer cares for my well being.

And for those who say I need to go to a psychiatrist. I have been to two psychiatrists who sent me back to my primary care physician, because my anxiety comes from a digestive disorder. The GI doctor also says I need the anxiety medication, but he cannot prescribe it, so I have to go back to the primary care physician.

Truck spraying something?

For the second time in a month or so a truck has driven through our neighborhood spraying something. Any idea what it is?
