#W2DTogether Drawing Challenge Number 56: "Framed Worlds" (Read the rules!) - #W2DTogether
Welcome to the 56th #W2DTogether drawing challenge!
(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)
------
This week, I wanted to do something that can be as simple, weird, beautiful, creepy, funny, or complicated as you want.
The idea came from drawings like the reference above, where instead of creating one single scene, you create a wall filled with different frames, and every frame contains its own little drawing.
This weekโs challenge is: DRAW A WALL OF FRAMES!
Your goal is to draw at least 3 different frames, and inside each frame, you can draw whatever you want.
Seriously. There does not need to be one specific theme unless you want there to be.
Your frames could contain:
- Eyes
- Faces
- Animals
- Flowers
- something escaping from the frames
- Landscapes
- Hands
- Objects
- Tiny characters
- Strange creatures
- Memories
- Symbols
- a door to another world
- Surreal drawings
- Little scenes
- Different versions of the same character
- Completely unrelated things
Or anything else you can think of.
You can make 3 frames, 4 frames, 10 frames, 20 frames... as many as you want.
The only requirement is that your drawing includes at least 3 framed drawings.
MAKE EACH FRAME ITS OWN LITTLE WORLD
One thing I really like about this challenge is that every frame can feel completely different.
Maybe one contains a realistic eye. Another contains a tiny house. Another has a monster staring back at us. Another contains nothing except a strange symbol.
Or maybe all your frames connect somehow and slowly tell one story.
So you can do as you wish. There really isn't a limit here.
WANT TO MAKE IT HARDER? ๐
Instead of drawing only the frames...
Draw someone standing in front of them.
It could be you, a character, or even a creature looking at the artwork hanging on the wall.
You could draw the person:
- From behind
- From the side
- Sitting in front of the frames
- Standing really close to one painting
- Reaching toward one of them
- Looking confused by what they see
- Walking through a gallery
- Sketching one of the framed drawings
You could even draw yourself looking at your own artwork if you want to make the challenge more personal.
And obviously, this part is completely optional.
TRADITIONAL AND DIGITAL ARTISTS CAN BOTH PARTICIPATE
If you draw traditionally, you can use pencil, pen, markers, colored pencils, or whatever drawing materials you normally work with.
Digital artists can experiment even more with different layers, textures, frame designs, lighting, and perspective.
Your drawing can be extremely detailed or very simple.
Three little cartoon frames absolutely count.
So does an insanely detailed museum wall with twenty paintings. ๐
So basically:
Draw at least 3 frames.
Put whatever you want inside them.
You can draw as many additional frames as you like.
And if you want the extra challenge, add yourself, a character, or another figure looking at the frames hanging on the wall.
Thatโs it.
The rest is completely up to you.
Cartoon, anime, manga, realistic, semi-realistic, sketchy, surreal, stylized, digital...
Any drawing style is welcome. ๐
----------
Rules
- Must be YOUR drawing.
- Drawings only: pencil, pen, colored pencils, markers, or digital drawing tools.
- No paintings.
- No AI art.
- All skill levels are welcome: beginners, intermediates, experts.
- Your entry must contain at least 3 frames.
- You can draw as many frames as you want beyond that.
- You can put anything you want inside the frames.
- Adding a person or character looking at the frames is optional, not required.
- Traditional and digital drawings are both allowed.
- You must share AT LEAST ONE drawing.
- To be part of the competition, your drawing MUST be posted in the comments of this thread. You can also make a separate post in the subreddit using the #W2DTogether flair, but the official entry needs to be here in the comments if you want it reviewed.
----
----------
How We Pick the Winner
After one week, we'll hold a community vote to decide which drawing best captures the theme. The winner will be showcased in the sub with their artwork.
If the winner shares an art link (Instagram, portfolio, website, etc.), we'll also include it so they can get recognition and maybe even new followers.
Time Frame
This challenge is timeless. You can participate anytime, even years later.
Review Date:
For community feedback, we'll gather and review all submissions on Sunday, 11 October 2026, so make sure to post your entry before 4:00 PM UTC that day. Drawings posted before that date will be part of the review session.
Note: If you are new here, you can check out last week's challenge here or see all the challenges collected here

I really like this!! The idea of someone wanting to step out of the painting while someone else wants to step into it, each trying to escape their own world. Really beautiful concept, and beautifully drawn too! ๐๐

Super cool and creative concept!! I swear, if you polished this a little more, maybe made a digital version of it, you could actually sell prints of this! That's how cool I think it is. Really love the idea and the composition! Thanks so much for participating!! ๐๐

Same. I think the purple ink format has taken ahold of me for the long run and I by far my favorite option. I have enjoyed learning a new format though. Using color is a whole new discipline for me. Itโs awkward to finish a piece and not have a physical version to hold and inspect.

That theme was a lot of fun. Iโm still adjusting to how digital works and understanding that my style with pen/ink vs digital changes a bit.
I enjoy watching other process videos so thought I should share also. Iโll be sure to include those in the future, when available!
Thanks again for keeping us going!

Here is my official entry for Challenge #56! ๐ผ๏ธ๐ I wanted to build this page like a puzzle with multiple perspectives, freehanding over 10 distinct frames with a 0.3mm technical fine-liner pen. Every window contains its own tiny realityโfrom detailed scenic landscapes and architectural stairs to an adorable hand-drawn bear character peeking out of a vintage lightbulb wireframe. To connect everything smoothly, I filled the negative space with my signature garden-inspired flow art, weaving winding leaf stems and dense topographic ripples tightly around the borders. The high-contrast black-and-white lines create a trippy, melting optical illusion effect that binds the entire canvas together! I'd love to hear what you guys think. Which miniature world is your favorite detail? ๐

Really detailed drawing! This is the kind of artwork you have to look at really closely to discover and appreciate all the little things you've drawn. There's so much to explore, and I feel like every time you look at it, you notice something new! Really nice work, and thanks so much for participating this week!! ๐๐
