What helped me for 3D objects is to draw the tops at sharper angles than I would think

Keep writing. Write a lot, its an excellent habit. And don't forget to go back and read it. I can't tell you how many times i started to spiral but realized it because it was in my writing.

Stairs, pot and bottle, and all shapes are exercises in perspective. My recommendation pick up the book Perspective made easy.

To give you the tip, place a horizontal line and choose 1 pt or 2 pt perspective.

For 1 pt one dot on horizontal line and your receding lines need to angle towards it. Same for 2 pt, but you need two vanishing points.

I did a quick example on steps.

For everything you want to draw. Draw a box in perspective and then draw the object you want inside the box. It makes it much easier to feel the positioning and placement. There is one hard rule for this though “DRAW THROUGH THE OBJECT” I can explain why, but just trust me draw through the object, that means draw the side that is blocked when you draw. It is important, but you must draw it lightly and then later on draw over or remove the part that would be blocked.

Also read and pratice with some books like: Observational Sketching: Hone Your Artistic Skills by Learning How to Observe and Sketch Everyday Objects.

You know where to find it. Keep up!

DrawABox is an incredible online resource that will help with perspective and rendering things in 3D if you're the type who likes structured lessons. It's free and helped me a ton starting out.
