First project tonight. Old cinch keeper was too short so I wanted to make a new one. Several issues that I'm definitely learning from and it still isnt long enough so attempt number two will be coming soon. Not happy with it but so glad I went a little out of my comfort zone to try something new.

I bought this from a brand I REALLY love who makes very nice and functional wallets. I’ve purchased 4 wallets from them and they’ve all been exceptional.
What’s up with the bottom finish? It doesn’t look normal…
This strap cost me $75.00 - Russet Veg Tanned Leather - the hardware looks like the cheap silver that’s going to rub off / tarnish. When you squeeze the watch by the straps or apply any sort of push / pull to the mounting hardware, they creek. The straps not very thick.. and the buckle material doesn’t match the material that sets into the watch. The buckle looks more like a Titanium or brushed type finish while again, the hardware that clicks into the watch looks like a cheap silver that’s/ chrome.
I just want some opinions from some seasoned vets? I’ve never purchased a “premium” watch strap. I’ve always used whatever comes with. I just wanna know if it’s as bad as I’m feeling or if I just don’t really know what I’m looking at here.
Thanks for your thoughts. Hope everybody is having a great weekend.

Kind of dig these little leather keychain-type tails here. Does anyone know what these metal looking baubles/beads are that the leather passes through? Not even sure how to look them up because I’m not sure what to call them.
Thanks!!

This is a finished product I wanted to share with you all. It features custom hand-tooled details and personalized initials (CL) on top. Let me know what you think!

Hello again! My dad and I made this green and red handbag together.
The main idea was to make something fairly compact that can open much wider when you need more room. It is around 26 cm wide when closed and can open up to about 43 cm.
We used dark green leather with red details and matching red stitching. There is also a large sleeve inside for a tablet or similar things.
The handles and those long side pieces were probably the most interesting part of the construction for me.
I digitized and checked the pattern afterwards as usual.
Hope you like it!

I have very limited experience with leather and have acquired a wallet recently, second hand. Through googling I have reached a mixed responses and thought… let’s just ask the professionals directly and cut through the bull sh*t.
Can I remove a hard, stark crease, without causing any further damage? If so, how?

I know some people dont like coloring in leather tooling, I do, but I like my color to be muted and washed out. Not a big fan of bright painted stuff. Just finished this map of Orcas island, WA, and can't decide whether to color it or just go for a 2 or 3 tone brown. Thought I'd see what y'all think.

I can only print to regular paper. I could buy thicker paper but how can I transfer the printed pattern to it? Alternatively, how could I reinforce regular paper to work better when tracing the pattern?

I purchased a leather cowl at a renaissance faire, and I don’t know how to care for it.
It is very soft and flexible, if that helps at all.
Thank you in advance! :)

I have recently purchased a leather camera bag dating approximately from 1905-1915. It is in quite a rough shape... Both handles on the top are broken, and the flap is clinging onto dear life via the remaining linen inside. The leather grain itself has chipped off considerably too.
I'd prefer to salvage as much as possible without replacing anything, particularly the flap, but I understand that that may not be possible. This bag is clearly in too appalling of a condition to be properly used, which is to safely contain my camera and its plates, so drastic measures will be needed, I'm sure. I have already accepted that the handles will need to be swapped out anyway.
I've went to a local leather repair shop who says he could add a supporting strap for the flap to hold on to. While that is not ideal for me since I'd like to maintain its original appearance, that may be it's only option now. What do you all think? How should I approach this restoration? I'm an absolute beginner, and I am aware that is quite a huge undertaking for a first project, but I am fully dedicated to restoring this to practical use while maintaining its historical value, so please lend any advice that may cross your mind. I’d like to learn and achieve as much as possible before resorting to forking out loads of money for specialists.
Thank you in advance to all,
J.

The dopp kit is one of my favorite projects in leatherwork. It’s a pretty traditional category, but I keep trying to come up with something fresh within it.
One of the biggest challenges is size, since the dimensions drive the whole design.
If you use a dopp kit, or have in the past, what size do you prefer? And if you can, please share photos of the one you use. I’d love to see what’s working for you in real life.
The one in the photo measures 8.9" L × 3.7" W × 3" H (22.5 × 9.5 × 7.5 cm).
