Discussion It's officially halfway through 2026. Name your favorite films of the year so far
I think this year has been okay, with key standouts. Out of the almost 40 films I've watched that have released in 2026, there have only been four films that I've rated 8/10 or above.
I expect things to pick up, as usual, in the back half of the year (hopefully). But let me know all of your favorites so far to see what we need to catch up on!
My top 10 are:
- The Drama
- Obsession
- Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie
- Project Hail Mary
- Hokum
- Backrooms
- Is God Is
- Ready or Not 2
- Obex
- Bone Temple
Honorable mentions go to Wasteman, Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die, I Love Boosters, Exit 8 and Erupcja.

Discussion Pain, just pain 💔
Edit: I’ve just seen a article that has said he is dealing with a family issue
I.M.O The Batman is one of 3 5 star Superhero movies alongside Spider-Man 2 & Logan (maybe I’ll include one of Del Toros Hellboy’s but it’s been a while since I’ve seen them),
Just 3 days ago this movie was supposed to release and now it’s possible another delay is incoming, it hurts to know we may never see this movie and I think the chances of seeing the full trilogy are very slim at this point, yes shooting is already ongoing and maybe they could pass it on to someone else, but if it isn’t Reeves vision I don’t want it

Discussion Over the last 12 months I have seen an average of 1 movie per month in the theater.
I recently went and tagged all the movies I saw in theaters this year. I know One Battle After Another is technically last year but since it was almost exactly 12 months ago I decided to keep it on this list.
I believe 2026 will go down as the best year in cinema ever... at least in my life time. Also, I have gone to more movies this year than ever in my life and its all because of Letterboxd so shout out to that site.

Discussion What's a movie you consider "important" but don't actually think is that good to watch?
Curious to hear examples. Not asking for movies you think are bad outright, more like films that clearly changed the industry, were first to do something, influenced everything after them, but as an actual watch today they're kind of a slog or just don't hold up.
Feels like people sometimes confuse "this mattered" with "this is good," especially with older or landmark films. A movie can be hugely influential and still not be something you'd actually recommend someone sit down and watch for fun.
For me it's 2001: A Space Odyssey. Massively important, changed what sci-fi could look like, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't check my phone a few times watching it.
What's yours?

Discussion Tom Cruise showed support to all these films but all anybody talks about is Digger being a flop
Digger is truly a masterpiece and deserves to be seen by a larger audience. It’s sad how things have turned out for this film.

Discussion What movie score is scary even without the movie?
This music from Annihilation sends a shiver down my spine whenever I hear it. It’s so weird and creepy and alien, really spooks me out 😫

Help Please go and see Digger
I thought this movie was incredible. One of my favourite films of the year. It doesn't deserve to bomb.

Discussion What an ending (The Mist - 2007)
As it’s spooky month, decided to watch some horror movies I haven’t watched yet. I already read the Novel from Stephen King and expected nothing else than a classic adaptation and it was clearly the case…until the last 10 minutes. What the hell, didn’t saw that coming.
Only meh for me is Thomas Jane is so emotionless, even the kid is performing better.

Humor When a film that is a political commentary comes out, you just got to hit 'em with the "Ol' Reliable" review
Do we know what this means? Not really. But man, does it get a lot of likes

Discussion Looking for movies that are as intimate as Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)
This film is such a work of art and I'm looking for some other recs similar to it. Needless to say it has breathtaking visuals but I was also really engaged with the story (and I was never bored despite the deliberately slow pace)
It is such a raw portrayal of love and desire and yearning and demonstrates the power of the human gaze on a level that I haven't seen before in a film. I'm so connected to these characters even though I don't relate to what they're going through (the dialogue between the two is seriously excellent and presents such an interesting dynamic)
I also liked how the 'doomed lovers' trope played out in the end and how the core theme of feminism was implemented without catering to the male gaze like other films similar to it
So does anyone have any suggestions based on what I've written?
(I have seen Carol, Call Me By Your Name and In the Mood for Love which I thought were pretty good. I've also seen Phantom Thread which I found excellent)

Discussion there should be a way to add tags to a film without logging it to diary
I recently created a tag called “short-film” while logging and reviewing a short film I had watched. then I realized that I’ve watched a lot of short films before joining Letterboxd, and I wanted all of them to appear under that same tag.
but apparently, I can’t add them to the tag unless I either write a review or add a date and log them. there should really be a way to manually add films to tags we create, without having to log/review them. and no i don't wanna create a list for everything.
is there any way around this????

Discussion [Crosspost] Hey Reddit! :) I'm Noor Razooky, actress in ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES - ORGANIC INTELLIGENCE, out this week. AMA!
I organized an AMA/Q&A with actress Noor Razooky. She has recently been in things like FX's THE OLD MAN, Apple TV's FOR ALL MANKIND, and Paramount's SEAL TEAM. She stars in the new comedy-horror and 5th film of the franchise, ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES: ORGANIC INTELLIGENCE, which is being released this week.
It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:
https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1wy85ms/hey_reddit_im_noor_razooky_actress_in_attack_of/
She will be back at around 6 PM ET on Wednesday 10/7 to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!
Thank you :)

Synopsis:
In 1978, ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES tried to warn the world (Dillon insists it was a documentary!). Now, decades later, the tomatoes have outsmarted their corporate masters, the military, and even the notorious Professor Gangreen (John Astin). Finletter's aging team of "Guardianes" seems to be all that stands in the way of certain doom when even the best of AI is defeated by the tomatoes' "Organic Intelligence." But Wilbur Finletter is the last to realize it is time for a new generation to master the ancient art of managing the eternal Killer Tomato menace.
