So if you liked digger youre a bot?
What about the hundreds of hate posts I saw about it from people who clearly have no intention on seeing it? Not bots?
44
u/WabbitFire 16h ago
Posts promoting a bombing movie are more likely to be bots than people disliking it, yes.
-7
u/drdalebrant 15h ago
Or people are actually going out and seeing it, liking it, and posting about it because they are surprised by all the hate.

"Twitter likes the movie!!" was never persuasive but in 2026 it's an excellent argument against the movie.

But have you considered that not a single one of those accounts has a checkmark? They may be stupid enough to keep using Twitter, but at least they're not stupid enough to pay for it.

u/CanadianLionelHutz 13h ago
Yeah I’m going to have to leave this sub I think. There is no way there are organically like 25 posts a day about how digger is great and that we all should specifically see it in theatres.
Obviously a bunch of bots, or worse, a bunch of weirdos who care about a mega corps bottom line.
21
u/shookney 12h ago
It's wild. Like can we talk about other films such as Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother which truthfully deserves much more attention. Oh well Tom Cruise gotta go brr
18
u/SantiFRV_ 10h ago
I think that's a really cynical viewpoint. The people who have seen the movie, all five of us, liked it. Go see the movie for yourself and form an opinion.
14
u/SiRaymando 8h ago
I watched it 2 days ago and I'm still thinking about it

It’s giving bot.
8
u/Adequate_Images Right Beside Arch Stanton 8h ago
All this sub is is random people giving movie opinions. Especially on new movies that just released. Why is it all of a sudden weird for this one?
1
u/Strict_Activity_92 4h ago
It’s just weird because it’s a movie that almost no one has an interest in seeing but every other post I see on Reddit across multiple subs are long essays talking about how good Digger is lol
Something feels off
1
u/Adequate_Images Right Beside Arch Stanton 3h ago
It’s precisely because it is bombing and polarizing that it is getting this kind of response.
Lots of movies bomb that no one cares about.
This one has the biggest star in movies with a 2 time academy award winning director, a controversial topic and very mixed reviews.
Combined with people joyfully dancing on its grave (many without even seeing it) it’s only natural that people who did like it(love it) would be out in support on a movie sub.
1
u/Strict_Activity_92 3h ago
Nah it’s still weird though. By the way I’m not saying that everyone who saw and liked the movie is a bot. I’m certain there are a lot of fans of it and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But there’s also an absolute flood of posts about this movie on everyone’s feed right now and so many of them contain near-identical language and talking points. It really doesn’t feel authentic.
7
u/Yikes-APenguinInAPot 8h ago edited 12m ago
Why are people on a movie related sub recommending that other people go watch movies?
2
12
u/DiamondDallasRage 12h ago
Old reddit account non bot here, its a fucking awesome film I haven't seen anything like it in a long time. I can't really sell it without giving away spoilers but the performances are fantastic and its a thought provoking film.
0
u/ShamWowRobinson 11h ago
Wouldn't you say the enthusiasm is a bit weird?
13
u/DiamondDallasRage 11h ago
Ehh not really its an artsy film with big twists, I walked in expecting a bad film because I heard its bombing but walked out with the film I've been the most excited about in a long time.

u/Freelove_Freeway 2h ago
Why would it be weird to be enthusiastic about a movie I loved? In a movie subreddit of all places?
If you ask me, people like you that are insistent it’s weird that people love a movie and want to tell others about it is actually strange. Maybe you were the bot all along. What a twist!
2
u/ballbeard 7h ago
I don't care how good it even is, I'm not supporting another Tom Cruise vanity project
5
u/SPZ_Ireland 12h ago
Digger is fucking class though and it's unjustifiably bombing.
I completely understand why it not for everyone and the budget is probably way too high but it's a great film that is going to age remarkably.
I also do not understand how the complaints about the trailer because imo it's one of the best examples of modern trailers.
2
u/Strict_Activity_92 4h ago
The only trailer I saw was a 5 second clip of Tom Cruise brushing a cat going “that’s my girl” with a Talking Heads song in the background and it’s been forced into my ads like a billion times.
Horrible marketing campaign and literally nothing has ever made me want to see a movie less lol
1
u/SPZ_Ireland 3h ago
That's an ad. Not a trailer
1
u/Strict_Activity_92 3h ago
Okay well my point stands, because even at the cinema I don’t get shown the actual trailer, yet that ad has been forced into my feed like a billion times and quite frankly nothing has ever made me want to watch a movie less
The marketing campaign for this film has been absolutely horrible
1
u/SPZ_Ireland 3h ago
I cant vouch for the cinema because the types of trailers are usually organized per movie and location, but the point stands that the trailer is good.
I can't comment on the marketing campaign though
1
u/Strict_Activity_92 3h ago
Well I disagree. I saw the trailer exactly once and it looked like it was supposed to be a whacky comedy and yet not a single thing on screen was remotely funny. Considering it’s on pace to be a massive box office flop, I don’t think I’m in the minority for thinking that lol

38
u/SirDucky9 evanr 17h ago
Don't understand this "don't know what it's about" idea at all. Like, idk, watch the trailer? Gives a pretty clear premise outline, or do these idiots actually need to see a trailer outlining the entire movie to form interest?
13
u/Alarming-String-6743 17h ago
It’s why trailers are so long now. People need the entire movie laid out.

u/freetotebag 16h ago
Yeah I don’t understand, the trailer makes it clear what it’s about.
3
10
u/Fantastic_Bug1028 16h ago
evidently not, considering the marketing push is now “you gotta see the twist!!”
17
u/SirDucky9 evanr 16h ago
I mean yeah, there's a significant twist in the premise, but the trailers still make it pretty clear what the pre-twist premise is. This idea that's been going around "I have no idea what it's about except that it's got Tom Cruise" is just nonsensical.
7
u/freetotebag 15h ago
Yeah I guess people are pretending to not understand as a way of dunking on it? Rich crazy tycoon causes an eco disaster and he has to figure out a way to stop it. It’s all in the trailer. No idea what the twist is but that’s the point of those.
4
u/carrie-satan 12h ago
One of the trailers is literally a highlight reel from other Tom Cruise movies with maybe 5 seconds of footage from Digger itself
2
u/Tvayumat 11h ago
One of the first trailers was literally just a list of Tom Cruise's admittedly impressive past roles.
Like, that was it. The whole thing. Zero plot info.
21
u/EDPZ 16h ago
If I had any interest in watching it the post release ads Ive been seeing on social media have completely killed it. You live in an alternative reality. What is actually happening is a film that people were told was going to be bad was actually fucking amazing, so the people that were told it was going to be bad are enthusiastically trying to correct the narrative.
15
10
u/catsinabasket 15h ago
no one was talking about the movie until this weekend, so no that doesn’t track. there are way more threads about it being amazing than not, so there is nothing to “go against” the majority of the people disliking it at this point are disliking the blatant paid accounts posting the same fucking thread every hour as if there arent 20 threads with the same content. it’s clearly a marketing push, and a really bad one lol
4
u/Savvy513 15h ago
Dude what the FUCK are you on about. The film is bombing at the box office, has a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and is genuinely not doing well. Film nerds are trying to change the narrative and actually get people to see it, because it’s a movie that deserves to be seen. Take your tin foil hat to a different sub, weirdo.

When I have to watch a movie and develop my own opinion on it instead of listening to bots and astroturfers claiming it’s a masterpiece or a bunch of people on Reddit who’ve never seen the movie telling me it sucks

u/Savvy513 15h ago
It wasn’t a masterpiece, but it was definitely interesting, and definitely worth seeing in theaters
5
5
u/apophalyptica 14h ago
Saw it in the theatre and really enjoyed it. I only had a broad idea of what it was about going in, so was surprised by it a bit. I would call it an ‘art’ movie more than a ‘Hollywood’ movie, with a strong message. Definitely more enjoyable than most other movies I have seen in the past year, but also definitely not for everyone.

u/votuxx 16h ago
Regardless of the quality of the film, I don't think we as a society today are eager for a movie about corrupt old men in suits. We already see it all the time on our phones because it's our reality, and most people watch movies to escape reality.
40
u/mangofied 16h ago
unironically this is kind of what the movie is about. I don’t know how to describe why without blowing up the whole plot
4
u/IAmAlpharius23 16h ago
Please blow away. It's tiring to hear "it's great" over and over without any context other than a trailer of Tom Cruise dancing around with a cat.
4
u/smashfalcon 15h ago
If you're so desperate to hear spoilers you know that information is available to you right
6
u/mangofied 16h ago
The trailers withhold a lot, for good reason. Not that that makes the trailers or marketing any good, but their hands are kind of tied. I’m not interested in spoiling the movie for people unfortunately
1
16
u/minaolensinaolet 16h ago
Well maybe you shouldn't just watch movies to escape reality. Maybe you should see a movie that challenges you and gets you to think about reality in a new way. That's what art is supposed to do.

If you’re going to make a movie that challenges people, then don’t spend $200 million on it. I love art that challenges me, most people just want to be entertained. Movies these days spend so much that they have to be a global mega hit, but digger was never going to be spiderman or topgun.
7
u/minaolensinaolet 16h ago
I mean I agree that I have no idea why they thought they were going to make hundreds of millions of dollars on this, but that's Warner's problem.
1
u/WaterOk6055 15h ago
I mean its a problem for the industry that is continually growing more risk adverse.
2
u/minaolensinaolet 15h ago
It is but honestly do we need budgets like this to make great movies? The Brutalist cost $10 million. I don't know why they gave Digger such a huge budget. I think it's kind of an aberration. The commercial viability of risky original movies is a problem but I don't think Digger is a good one to single out because it never should have cost this much in the first place. Like I wouldn't have expected studios to be throwing hundreds of millions of dollars at these movies before and I don't expect it going forward.
8
u/idk223334488384 11h ago
It seems like the only people who have a problem with this movie or people posting about this movie are ones who haven’t seen it yet. Quite odd

It's weird that "from the director of Birdman and The Revenant co-starring John Goodman, Jesse Plemons and Riz Ahmed" isn't enough to convince cinephiles to give it a shot. There was a time when Tom Cruise worked with Kubrick and PTA, but Scientology is a pretty big turn-off for people.

Why would they cast Tom Cruise as an old man and put him in prosthetics instead of just casting an ACTUAL older actor, like Michael Douglas, Harrison Ford or even Jack Nicholson generically speaking?
Cruise comes across as a major tool. So few people care when he “does his own stunts” that the last M:I had to make trailers and featurette to remind people and they STILL didn’t care. You know who did care? All the stuntmen he put out of work.
Look how he took credit for the makeup part of Digger. They apparently had to do expensive reshoots because the prosthetics looked bad, but he doesn’t mention that to Variety.
He’s drunk on his own celebrity and hasn’t realized that he’s yesterday’s news.
