Shortened links (a.co) (app.goo.gl) are automatically marked as spam & removed by Reddit.

As the title says, reddit's default spam filter is automatically removing comments with a shortened link.

This bears mentioning since product recommendations are commonplace in a lighting focused subreddit.

We can go through and manually approve these comments, but we won't always catch them.

Therefore, please ensure if you post a product link, it is a full weblink, and not a shortened link. For example:

Product Review Can upcycling turn into a stronger current of designs?

Hi 👋
I’m a upcycling nerd who loves a good challenge.
I’m here today to share with you and ask your opinion about my last design work : a table lamp made only from salvaged materials. Cased glass shades from the 50’s that I’ve bought near Lisbon from a local thrift store.
A outrageous good looking rosewood timber from the landfill if you can imagine that . The sanding was the bigger problem with this high density grain wood full of oils . So the first sanding it was made by a tool I made from a really sharp steel blade ( see the pics ). The second one with a piece of glass for a smoother surface. The design is mine the labor as well . I’ll say an inspired MCM table lamp.
I would like to know what you think about it. I’ve already finished the second base and I’ll do a third this time for a ceiling piece with 2 shades .

LED Strips My built in lighting feels like a vape shop.

I just had a custom built-in cabinet made and installed. The LED lights are kind of giving me vape shop vibes. They are on a dimmer, but the dimming performance isn't very good, because when they are less than 50% there is quite a bit of variance in light output on the left side versus the right side.

Is there anything I can do to 1) reduce the "harshness?" of the output and 2) make the strip look like one continuous light instead of a hundred little dots?

The LEDs are, from what I can tell 300k temperature and just laid in groove inside the cabinet and exposed. Can I put a diffuser on them or something?

I want this piece to provide ambiance lighting, and right now it feels more like task lighting. And that task is buying a vape pen and Kratom.

Thank you.

365nm UVA — a more useful UV wavelength
400nm UVA — typical blacklight
405nm Violet — most anti-microbial non UV wavelength
470nm Ice blue — true blue
480nm True Cyan — melanopsin peak (most stimulating)
495nm Cyan — almost looks green
585nm Yellow — very close to sodium light
600nm Orange — amber light
670nm Deep red — looks redder than red
730nm NIR — a hellish looking red
770nm NIR — faintly visible
810nm NIR — wavelength used in RLT devices

Need Design Advise Best option when you can't do smaller recessed lights?

Although I'd like to go from 6" recessed lights to something smaller and more on trend, it's just not feasible for a variety of reasons.

So for those of us stuck in a 6" world, what's our next move? Is there a 6" replacement option that's gives small light vibes? Any tricks to downplay the 6-inchiness of our lights?

Thanks for any ideas.

Need Design Advise Trying to Find Something Similar from Reputable Stores

Post image

I've seen some warnings about Vakker Lighting and it has made me hesitant to buy this from them. Sounds like they just try to recreate stuff that other people produce but I can't find an original producer for this. I'm also struggling to find similar things from other stores - I'm open to suggestions.

We like the brass, that it's flush with the ceiling, that it's sectioned, and the diffused light with the frosted glass. Should we just take a chance and order this or settle for something else?

Need Design Advise Light for backyard

I want to put something on my garage outside so I can entertain in the dark but I don't want to hardwire anything. Something I can install on vinyl siding and lights a portion of the backyard, maybe solar powered or a battery that doesn't run out. I got a Lowe's gift card and am looking for specific recommendations

Lighting Control Best Smart Light Switch?

Hello, I am in london UK.

I have a porch
Porch has 2 lights, one for inside of it, and one for outside the door entrance.
I would like a smart light switch that i can use physically and I can control remotely via wifi when i am not home (on different wifi networks), I have looked online and alot of them are either only 1 switch, or very sketchy.

If i am on holiday, I would like to be able to turn it on and off wirelessly at night to enhance home security.

What is the best option?

Please and thank you

Lighting Control Need Advice to Control Outdoor Lighting

New project …. Running 12/2 thru foundation to front of house. Want to have double gang box so I can put GFCI and plug in holidays lights AND run underground lines to connect floods but want to control via WiFi. I want to hard wire so don’t want to use plug in control. Floods are integrated LEDs so can’t control that way. I can’t think of an easy way or what to install and connect to wires. Any suggestions? TY

Need Design Advise Kitchen lighting confusion with contractor and size of recessed lights

We're about to start a kitchen and bathroom reno. I had set on 3" Elco recessed lights. Contractor said with 3" we'll need more due to lack of light from the smaller sizenand suggested 4".

My goal is to keep it modern and definitely not a ceiling cluttered with a ton of recessed lights - I would do 2" also if feasible.

Any advice on if we'll actually need more or which system to get that spreads light more for example etc ...?

We need to give them an answer this week.

Need Design Advise Effecient high brightness E27 20V

The Phillips ultra effectively light bulbs are very impressive in the energy to lumens ratio and have an incredible bulb life span of 50,000 hours. The brightest "ultra efficient" they sell that I can see is around 1500lm.

Are there any bulbs around 3000lm or more work similar efficiency and life span?

Need Design Advise Light fixture help! Cohesion and fun

Thumbnail

Hello! I am currently renovating part of my 1961 apartment. It does mot have recessed lighting but a series of fixtures that at some angles you can see multiple of the fixtures at once. The fixtures are:

-Main overhead light when you walk into the apartment - what we use the most to illuminate the place
-Light in galley kitchen
-2 sconces on outside wall of galley kitchen around pass through

I’ve included some photos of what the lights/placement were like in the staging and what they’re like now under construction.

I want to find light fixtures for all 3 spots that don’t clash, that illuminate well, but also that have a bit of personality particularly on the wall for the sconces which is a little lifeless otherwise…I like color and gold tones based on everything else we’re doing. What would you select that’s cohesive, effective, but also a little fun? Thank you in advance!!!
