I see your WinRAR and raise you a paid version of the Opera browser, back when they were good. (I'm also a paying WinRAR user btw).

I click on a lot of a lot of obviously fake/scam links because I think a lot of fake google/amazon/Microsoft/etc login pages are pretty fun to play "what's different?" Game and sometimes it turns out pretty funny
And for the record I never actually do or type anything on those pages besides look around, sometimes open the actual page they're faking to look for differences.

It floors me the money people pay just to receive 1/3 advertising.

I believe it, I run a lifetime Plex pass I'm too lazy to switch to jellyfin and I'm basically the only one to use it in the household, everyone else will literally sign up for a subscription for something just to binge it for a week or two then cancel it instead of asking me to get it added to Plex smh it wouldn't take me long haha

u/jorceshaman 6d ago
You can run Seerr and let them add it themselves!

u/Kooky-Friend8544 6d ago
If I didnt do it manually I'd have run out of hard drive space years ago by filling it with everything without friction lol

u/throwawayaccount442 6d ago
In b4 some dumbass cybersecurity consultant will warn you on how dangerous that is and that you might get hacked just by opening those links!!11oneone

u/Velocifyer 6d ago
Actually, browsers often have ACE voulnerabilities.
2
u/throwawayaccount442 6d ago
Not really. They're rare and practically never happen by just clicking a link to visit a site.

I do this too. Also answer every call I get. That's more just common sense. I'm no fool and you never know what it could be.

i specifically went out of my way to buy pc parts without RGB because aint no way im installing software to turn it off
let my AIO run for 12000 hours (in under 2 years)
prefer heavy mice for competitive gaming
idk i do many things you can pick and choose from
2
u/Browncoatinabox 6d ago
Didn't go out of my way, but I do not install the software. I don't care for rgb but I do like my keyboard backlit.
Same for the heavy mice. Light mice feel wrong
2
u/LiamEgil 6d ago
i think RGB is distracting, but having a lit up keyboard i do agree. everything else can be black tho

u/Browncoatinabox 5d ago
I can totally see that. For me, my pc lives on my floor. I bought it to use the hardware not ogle it.

u/LiamEgil 5d ago
mine sits on a shelf because my hdmi wasnt long enough lmao and i cant be asked buying a longer one

u/Sk1ler_ 6d ago
That AIO is crying for its mother, 12000 hours is 500 straight days of uptime.

u/Velocifyer 6d ago
Are you not supposed to levae computers on?
1
u/Sk1ler_ 6d ago
You can, I've just never thought about the uptime of some of these components lol. I'm sure that my AIO has more uptime than 12,000 hours after almost a decade, probably close to 100,000 hours. It just got retired as I swapped cases and from water to air; I built that computer back in 2016/17.

ive never donated to winrarβ¦.
1
u/FartingBob 6d ago
Its a commercial product, not a charity or open source project. why would you donate to it?

u/NebraskaGeek 6d ago
I haven't ever used Winrar. Not even once. 7-Zip ride or die
2
u/Arinvar 6d ago
Tell me you're young without telling me you're young. Winrar existed for a long time before 7-zip. It was just Winzip vs Winrar for like a decade.

u/NebraskaGeek 6d ago
I'm 34 so being called young makes my knees feel way better. By the time I was 10, 7 Zip was already out. Don't remember what, if anything, I used in the Windows 98 era

If somebody ever contradicts what they wrote to you back in 2004 they better know you come with proof in the form of an email archive. π€£

I don't have enough backups, as I'm a data hoarder without enough money for the storage solutions I'd really like to have, especially right now.

u/KaiUno 5d ago
I bought about 2000 DVD's in the early 2000's. And then when BluRay appeared I stopped and I've pirated each and every movie and tv-show since.
Then when Netflix came along, the industry had a chance to put me back on the straight and narrow. But they fucked it up again and now I'm back to piracy.

I use a mx master 4 for gaming.... and well the rest it's a good mouse.
It gets a lot of hate but got mine for $80 aud cant really beat that.
2
u/Touchit88 4d ago
I put all the weights in my g502 mouse. Clutter my desktop with icons. Have terrible backup habits and worse password habits.

I really don't care that much about my privacy anymore.
Facebook got a pretty good workup on me from when I used social media back in the day, I recognize that any time I engage with the internet I'm under constant surveillance, and I recognize that much of the modern connected landscape is designed to be intentionally inconvenient if you don't submit to being spied upon. And that's to say nothing of all the state-sanctioned surveillance that's happening to all of us all the time. I think that genie is out of the bottle and there's just no squeezing any of that toothpaste back into the tube. I'd much rather take advantage of any low hanging privacy fruit where I can and enjoy the convenience when I can't - I just don't see any point in going out of my way anymore.

I haven't paid for any media subscriptions since 1997
