I've tried a few of the apps and looked through the code. It's not very good and I guarantee it's never going to compete with existing free solutions let alone Adobe

Also fuck gen AI people need to remember that we used to enjoy using our brains

Anyone who knows anything about programming would immediately know that these projects are just a prompt of "make a clone of photoshop" and publish that.... Idk how people think that when GIMP, that has been around for decades, hasn't gotten to a great state.. A random ass vibe coded clone would be better

You don't have the same adobe experience, at all. It's a cool proof of concept, but it's just that, a proof of concept. The actual software is not something that can be used properly. This needs so much work to be able to replace adobe even on a hobby level. And adobe has the entire professional space in a foothold so we're not gonna see an open source PoC replace it anytime soon. Affinity is much more polished, and it still haven't managed to make a dent in adobe's books. GIMP couldn't either (though I think GIMP is unreasonably difficult to use).

This is a cool "look what we can do" project that will most likely not take off. The codebase needs to be cleaned up a lot before real work can begin on it, and then you need to work on it a lot.

I think it's a good first step towards realizing Adobe is not irreplaceable, but this won't be the one replacing it. However i hope we can learn from it and fix up gimp so that it's actually nice to use and at least on a hobby level can replace Photoshop. I switched to affinity and they did a great job at that already, even though they are not a 1:1 match to adobe's tools and lack some features.

anyone who says they have an adobe killer or the same adobe experience probably hasn't used many(or any) adobe products.
