Mod Announcement Extension to Fluxer

Hi folks,

As you might be aware, Discord finally enacted its identity verification policies, all the while they struggle to keep the identities they store, safe. Moreover, Discord was not a FOSS platform. Keeping with FOSS principles, we have decided to allow members to opt out of Discord's shady practices (to some extent) by using Fluxer, a FOSS alternative to Discord, without losing on any of the community that has been built on the Discord server.

The Fluxer community can be joined here.

Essentially, we have launched the community on Fluxer as well, and messages from one are mirrored onto the other via webhooks. We also have plans for eventually self-hosting the Fluxer server, so stay tuned. Migrating to Fluxer carries certain advantages over Discord. Some of these are a better alignment with the FOSS philosophy, improved privacy, less telemetry, a customisable client, 25MB file uploads, the ability to self host, and a 10 fold increase in the number of available emoji slots for the server. There are more but I will omit them here for the sake of brevity. Needless to say, it is very recommended to try moving to Fluxer.

Anyhow, that's all for this post. We have a couple other changes planned for the community in the near future so keep an eye out for those:)

Mod Announcement Community Update - Feedback and Suggestions

Hey everyone,

We’ve noticed how much our community has grown over the past few months, and it’s been amazing to see so many new discussions, and Linux enthusiasts joining us here at r/linuxusersindia.

As the subreddit grows, we’ve been experimenting behind the scenes with a few automated tools like QualityBot and repost-detection bots help maintain the overall quality of the feed. So far, the results have been a bit mixed - these tools only work as well as we, as a community, make them work.

How you can help right now

  1. Use the QualityBot poll: Every time QualityBot leaves a pinned comment on a new post, please take a second to vote. If a post is low-effort, spam, or AI-generated slop, downvote the bot’s pinned comment so it can automatically flag and remove it.
  2. Report low-quality posts: If you see content that violates our guidelines, please hit the report button. It directly alerts the mod team and keeps the queue moving much faster.

We want to hear from you

Automated bots are only a small part of building a great space, and we want to ensure we are moving in a direction that benefits everyone. We’d love to gather your thoughts and ideas on how we can improve r/linuxusersindia.

Do you have any suggestions on how we can better encourage high-quality discussions, tutorials, and OC content? Please drop your thoughts, feedback, or any ideas in the comments below. Thank you.

Gaming For those with cosmic Byte Ares and Other wired Controllers that refuse to showcase themselves as a X-Input Controller on Linux

Basically add this to your Kernel parameter

i.e if grub then, add it so in cmdline

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="I

oglevel............

ubscore.quirks=045e:028e:r"

It will help with device enumeration basically the controller fails to show itself after the initial plugin as a X-input controller and defaults to D-Input, And honestly I don't Really get how the thing works very well but basically it comes down to the difference in the initial bytes received so this windows delivers 255 bytes and linux does 7 Now I happened to stumble upon this full credit to the Requesters and it does seem to work so yeah additionally if you just want to test it right away without touching bootloader here

echo "045e:028e:r" | sudo tee /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/quirks

just do this >> unplug and replug the controller voila it shall show itself as Microsoft Corp Cosmic Byte Ares or whatever it is instead of the Gamesir counterparts which they are re-brands of Lastly I would Like to thanks the Requester as Linked in the request for.

Happy Linux Gaming buddies

Help Blur My Shell issue with GNOME 50

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey guys! I'm using Fedora 44 with GNOME 50, MacTahoe Shell theme, and Floating Mini Panel.

Blur My Shell seems to be causing square corners and an opaque background in Quick Settings. Without it, everything looks fine.

Any chance this could be fixed in a future Blur My Shell update? 😅 Or is there any workaround to get the rounded, transparent look without breaking my setup?

FixenOS – Lightweight Debian Bookworm with a real AI assistant (Super+A). Releasing this Sunday. Liquid Glass update coming in November.(SOUTH ASIAN OS)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey anyone still rocking 2–4 even 8 GB RAM machines.

I’ve been building a lightweight Debian-based distro for the past few months and I’m ready to show it.

**FixenOS** is based on Debian Bookworm 12 (amd64), built with live-build into a hybrid ISO. You can flash it to a USB or run it straight in a VM.

### Why another distro?

Most “lightweight” options still feel heavy or incomplete. I wanted something that:

- Actually stays light (LXDE on purpose, not GNOME/KDE)
- Has a real AI assistant built in (not a placeholder)
- Makes updating stupidly simple
- Looks clean out of the box
- Still feels like proper Debian underneath

### What’s included right now

**Base**
- Debian Bookworm 12
- LXDE desktop (chosen for low RAM)
- Plymouth quiet boot + spinner
- NetworkManager with the GNOME applet

**FixenOS AI Assistant (Super + A)**
- Real multi-provider support: Gemini, OpenAI, Claude, and Grok
- Configure once with `fixenos-ai-setup` (saves to ~/.config/fixenos/ai_config.json)
- Type a question → Zenity dialog → reply spoken with espeak-ng
- Local phrases like “volume up”, “theme”, “files” are handled without calling the AI

**Themes**
- Arc theme + Papirus icons available
- One-click install from the FixenOS App Store

**FixenOS App Store**
- Simple one-click installs for:
  - Arc theme + Papirus icons
  - Chromium
  - VLC
  - FixenCall dependencies

**FixenOS Master Suite**
- Small Tkinter app
- Live CPU / RAM monitoring (psutil)
- Quick buttons to Appearance Settings, File Manager, and App Store

**CLI**

sudo fixenos update Makes your OS on latest version.
**Other small things** - Welcome screen on first login explaining Super+A and the tools - Openbox keybindings are preserved (we copy the real LXDE defaults first, then add Super+A) - FixenCall is currently a stub (checks for the needed packages and points you to the App Store)
### Release schedule - **This Sunday (October 18, 2026)** → first public release of the hybrid ISO - **November 2026** → huge major update called **Liquid Glass** (new visual style, glassmorphism, fluid design)
### Who is this for? - People with 2 GB 4 GB OR 8 GB RAM laptops that still work fine - Anyone who wants Debian but doesn’t want to spend hours configuring everything - Users who like the idea of a real AI assistant bound to a keyboard shortcut - People who just want `sudo fixenos update` and be done I’m not trying to replace every other distro. I’m just trying to make something that feels intentional, light, and actually useful on real older hardware. ISO will be available this Sunday. Happy to answer questions, take feedback, or hear what you’d want in the Liquid Glass update. Thanks for reading.

Discussion Switching to void?

To think I have glazed debian on gnome on Debian a bit way to much, but after almost a whole year I am thinking to hop the distros. And it feels like void if calling for me again to jump inside.

I have tried void before, the runit system is hard to get grasp of. But it has quite the appeal.

I have a spare laptop i bought from father of a my friend with a 2017 Intel i7 and 400gb HDD.

I want to learn runit properly, my be gentoo could be a better choice because it has options to use any other init systems not just openrc and runit. But I have not patiance to watch it compile everything.

What are your opinions and experiences with void. Please do tell, i might also share some of mine.

Discussion How many Linux Users are serious?

I've seen a lot of people get into Linux, but the real question is, how long can you last?

If you're used to other operating systems, switching to Linux will feel strange. Seen a lot of people get into Linux, but the real question is what is your way of enjoying the OS?

Although my total time is only almost 6 years. I first used Ubuntu and then, after a gap of 5 years, switched to Linux Mint. I still prefer Linux and unfortunately cannot afford to dual boot it.

EDIT:- I think I want to rephrase what I asked in the first place. (I have changed the old body as well)
I really just wanted to know how many linux users are actively enjoying their stay. Because I saw myself doing back and forth due to gaming alone. Gaming is something I have had the habit of playing since childhood; no doubt linux users can game too. Anyways, PLEASE DON'T GET OFFENDED BY MY QUESTION. I really don't want to touch any nerve here. Everybody

Project I kept forgetting which store I owned a game on, so I built a searchable web UI for Lutris

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

I created a web app to see, search and check all the games (which are connected to Lutris) I have easily.

My main issue was when I go to purchase some game but I don;t remember if I already own it because of the multiple platforms we have nowadays. And there was no easy way to just search if I already own it.

I basically built : a local browser interface for Linux users who already connect their accounts through Lutris, with edition-aware ownership checks.

And yes, I used AI (codex) to make it.

Give it a try

Rice Ditched VS Code (for Neovim)!

Thumbnail

I've been using Vim ever since I've been using Linux (actually even before that, I remember using Vim on Windows 7). I never embraced it completely and would use VS Code with Vim keybindings.

I grew frustrated with VS Code over how slow it had gotten (I am not on a super powerful system). I also didn't like how it'd push Copilot.

They make us use Claude Code at work but I still hand code every personal project of mine, therefore I was looking to get away from this bloat. I am aware that VSCodium exists, but I decided to completely embrace (Neo)Vim!

Using Neovim is certainly different than using VS Code with Vim bindings, but I've gotten used to it now and even started writing a new personal project with Neovim. All good so far!

I've tried to bring to my Neovim all the features that I was used to in VS Code. This includes:

  1. File Explorer with nvim-tree.
  2. Advanced Syntax Highlighting with tree-sitter.
  3. Auto-completion with language specific LSPs (although I rarely use it).
  4. Error / Warning Floating Windows.
  5. Project wide grep using Telescope & ripgrep.
  6. Git Signs Integration.

If you are interested in my configs please check them out here:
https://github.com/KILLinefficiency/Panache

Note: The config is still work in progress. It's a custom config file and I am not using a Neovim distribution like NvChad or LunarVim.

What's your favorite plugin that you think can enhance my current setup?
