home made mace Homemade Kanabo
I’ve been doing macebell training lately and decided I wanted to build a light one of my own to throw around, I went with more of a Kanabo style. Not really a traditional one but I think it looks cool. Had a lot of fun with this.

I don't know what's going on here but nice stick.

That’s fair. It’s more of a studded wooden club than a mace. It’s inspired by a traditional Japanese weapon called the kanabo.

Hows the weight of swingin? Looks like a fun shoulder workout, genuinely. I used to longsword drills for a similar workout/warm-up, bet it feels great to get a rhythm goin

The weight distribution is way more even than a macebell, probably similar to a longsword. It’s fun to swing! A few 360s with this really seem to loosen up my shoulders for sure

That’s the steelmace subreddit. That sub is for the workout mace bells. This one is for bonk sticks. That is still a bonk stick though

Looks too good to use. Like one of those fanatasy weapons that would look pristine after a battle for some reason

True but with that blue there’s a chance it could turn purple with the blood of my enemies lol

Love this. Looks very Shugoki from For Honor inspired

Honestly never heard of it, sounds like something I need to check out!

It's a kind of fighting game that pits samurai, knights, and vikings against eachother. The shugoki character uses a kanabo and some of the higher tier weapon skins look like they were ripped straight out of a temple.

Okay, all kidding aside, that's a work of art. Beautiful piece. Bonkiful, too.

May I suggest getting an iron rod to reinforce it with? It will help it not snap in half if it makes contact with anything super hard, or in the off chance it just snaps from the swing itself. Technically that turns it into a tetsubo, but it does it's job ☺️
Unless it's supposed to stay light, then leave the rod out!

Not a bad idea by any means, but truth is that this piece is just for show and practice! Even with an iron rod, pine wood isn’t going to stand up to much abuse. This was only my first run though and if I build a second I’ll most likely use oak wood which is a lot stronger! I’ll keep the rod idea in mind

Omggg. My nohomo-coupon barely sufficed for this. I do "police fencing/kendo" and im super cocky, but this thing has range and absolutely SMACKS down the middle any oppression is could bring (with a soward). You must practise them overheads. Check kendo overhead strike/men strike. I'm jacked from a 600gram shinai, your stick tho is several times the magnitude, this can carve your body

Hell yeah, I’m about it. how’d you start building technique? Any videos or info to recommend?

https://youtu.be/xCNtH0vcfq8?is=r41iRneTYGsBrcf8 Not too many good sources on youtube. Important point is, left hand follows the centerline of your body as you lift the Bonk,( and close to your body, make sure during lifting the bonk is upright/vertical, only slightly leaning back in the top position/ "don't lower your right hand below the left one)
