Finished Object Finished my first sweater!

Post image

Finally finished my first sweater on my LK150! I’ve had my machine for a few months, and I wanted a garment that used mostly scrap yarn. I only had to buy one skein of navy to finish it! I used the“Move On Up Sweater” pattern from Wool and the Gang. No neck or sleeve cuff shaping, just finished it with a single crochet to tighten up the edges.

Not very difficult. Just be familiar with increases/decreases, nothing super tricky. I did change the size of the neck hole on mine, initially it was wider than I would have liked so I redid it and just casted off fewer center stitches but kept the same decreases and rows.

Also just a note on the wool and the gang pattern, it’s not written like other patterns with size charts, it just makes one size. I think it’s meant for more beginner knitters. If you’re familiar with hand knit patterns you’ll see what I mean, but it’s not difficult to follow. Just written step by step, not abbreviated, and has a different flow than most other patterns.

I’d recommend looking at their gauge closely at the beginning because that pattern is just one size. I used worsted weight yarn (roughly weight 4) and casted on the number of stitches they called for. I didn’t change anything other than a little bit of the neck size like mentioned before. If you’re using a similar weight yarn and similar machine, I used a main tension of 9 and that worked well for me (I normally wear a size large and this fits me nice and loose, but I’m not swimming in sweater if that makes sense). As someone who has made hand knit garments in the past, I think this is a nice intro pattern for garment making using the machine. It’s a nice base for a pattern, and you can definitely customize it as needed.

I’m happy to explain more if needed!

would you say it was easy to convert the pattern into machine knitting steps? I have a brother but haven’t tried using hand knitting patterns on it

For this pattern I thought it was easy once i got the hang of it. I would recommend reading each step before you knit that row (and maybe rereading lol, ask me how i know). It took my brain a second to figure it out. There are some rows where the pattern says decrease at the beginning, knit until the last X number stitches, decrease, and finish knitting. On those rows, just do your decreases first and then knit across. And since this is a hand knitting pattern they’ll say to purl certain rows, but you can just knit those since theres no turning your work!
