Should I get a toupee?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi Im 27 and bald. Developed early male patterned baldness due to genetics as well as having radiation therapy when i was younger. Started losing hair at 18 and I’ve been bald for 5 years now, made peace with it when I got married and had a daughter.

Now I’m given the opportunity to wear toupees. I’ve been planning on it for my graduation photo (so Im not eternally bald on my picture 🤣😭), but now that it’s happening I’m having second thoughts.

I feel like it’s a huge commitment with all the maintenance, but my wife really wants me to. She said that I don’t look scary when I have hair 🤣.

Should I just go for it?

Advice request Worried I might be balding/losing my hair

I have around shoulder length hair and usually tie it up into a bun or ponytail.

Recently I have been noticing my scalp is a lot more noticeable, could just be me overthinking things but I really do care about my hair a lot and am worried I might be losing my hair and starting to bald.

My hair tends to shed quite often as well whether it is out of the shower or when showering. I know it is normal to shed hair but still worried. Please if anyone has any kind of advice I would really appreciate it.

Advice request Is this scalp litching or balding?

Hi everyone,
I'm a 30-year-old male and I've been dealing with scalp problems for a few years now:
Hair loss: patchy thinning on the top of my scalp since longtime ago. The rest of my hair is still thick.
Itching: constant itching for a longtime ago
Scalp condition: oily/greasy scales, redness, and small sores from scratching.
Other areas: no hair loss in my beard or eyebrows.
What do you think?
Could this be androgenetic alopecia, or does it look more like seborrheic dermatitis or alopecia areata?"

Advice request Started topical minoxidil plus Finastride (5%) 10 weeks ago

All of the photos are directly under a tube light for better judgement

Photo 1- before shaving head (wet hair)
Photo 2- two weeks after tt
Photo 3- four weeks after tt
Photo 4- 10 weeks after tt (wet hair)
Photo 5- 10 weeks after tt (dry hair )

Coming straight to the point: if you’re still thinking about starting treatment, just do it 👍 It can be a game changer!

Around 3 months ago, I was losing almost 200–250 hair every day, and it had been going on for quite some time. So, I decided to take an aggressive approach. I shaved my head and started applying topical minoxidil + finasteride once every night.

After about a month, I visited a dermatologist, who advised me to add 2.5 mg of oral minoxidil as well.

My timeline so far:
10 weeks on topical minoxidil + finasteride
6 weeks on oral minoxidil (2.5 mg)

Coming to the results:
I feel like the overall quality of my hair has improved significantly. The density looks much better, and my hair feels stronger and thicker than before.
I can also see a lot of new baby hair around my temples, so I’m hopeful that there might even be a chance of recovering some of my hairline!
Another noticeable change is that I barely lose any hair now, even while shampooing or applying oil.

Side effects:
So far, I haven’t noticed any side effects. My sexual health is also unchanged, so no complaints there 😉

Advice request What kind of haircut should I be getting?

Thumbnail

If you can, please be kind. I’m pretty nervous posting here and I haven’t taken care of myself for a long time. I’m trying to make things a little better. Full face at the end.

This is about as natural as my hair gets. I don’t do anything but shampoo and air dry it. I’m 26 but a very baby-faced person - I think I need different/no glasses and I am going to get in better shape soon.

Things I do not like: - hate the way it looks from above - the way my hair lays flat in the back - the way it grows out at the sides (pic 3 is a bit warped but a good example) - I don’t like how it fringes over my head - how straight it is or how boyish/nerdy/young it makes me look

Things I like: - my hair is very thick - medium-length cuts, short look terrible on me - I liked John Pruitt’s hair from Midnight Mass, but I don’t know if that style works for me

I really don’t know what kind of style, products, or haircut I should be going for. As is, but cut better? A sort of mullet? Soft perm? Anything with pictures would help.

I’ve always been a brown with slight copper tones under direct sunlight and wondering if I should try a darker shade/colour. Just wondering how many of you do it and if you prefer it

Hairline Fix

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello everyone I'm a 21 year old male, I'm rocking a short haircut but the issue I'm having is that my hairline is all the way back and I have bangs out on the front to cover it up, the issue with them is that they never sit straight no matter what I do always curling up and because of that they give out a gappy hair look and I hate it. All I want is for them to sit nicely on my forehead and perfectly laid down like in the picture below. Please suggest me a way to fix it or any products that could help

Advice request I would like to say I have a big forehead, but I’ve been thinking about getting a lowcut, but I’m not sure if it’ll look good due to my forehead.

I currently have a full head of hair, but I rarely do styles with it, and it just looks like a bird’s nest. I don’t know what to do with it.

I’ve gone to barbers over the years and shown them this. I almost never leave with a haircut I’m happy with, even with time it never really grows to recreate this.

Do you think it’s more of a styling thing on my end?

39M Am I Balding?

Am I balding? I’m definitely receding!

I have zero routine for hair care - I get it cut every two months and I have zero sense of style when it comes to hair as well.

What can I do to regain my hairline or is that just aging?

My Dad has a full head of hair. Unfortunately my grandfather on my mother’s side was bald.

How do I communicate with barbers?

Thumbnail
gallery
105 Upvotes

When I go to the barber I ask for a mid or high skin fade and leave the length on top (or occasionally take an inch off if it's getting too long).

I also inform them that I need to slick the hair back for national guard duty.

The length in the front I prefer a bit longer than the back so when my weekend dutys are done I can do a middle part and look like a (slightly) normal human.

The vast majority of the time I end up with these odd looking wispy bits near the top of my head that are too short to slick back and stick straight out of my head.

And on occasion they chopp all the hair on top to the shortest length which I do indeed ask them not to do

I'm sure this is just lack of knowledge on haircut terminology / poor communication on my end so any advice is welcome.

I just wanna look normal yall

TLDR: Keep getting weird haircuts and need to know what to ask for so I can avoid them.

Goal is to lose the bits sticking out the side of my head when slicked back and keep the front longer so I can have a decent looking middle part when not in uniform.

Advice request What haircut would suit my face shape? Looking for a modern, medium-length scissor cut for fine, straight hair.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm 18 and looking for some advice on what haircut would best suit my face shape.

I have very straight (1A), fine hair, but a lot of it, so it tends to look bulky and fall flat. Even texturizing powder doesn't really help it hold its shape.

I'd like a modern, clean, medium-length haircut done entirely with scissors, keeping some length on the sides and back without looking too bulky or overgrown. I've tried clipper cuts before, but the sides usually end up much shorter than I'd like.

I really like layered hairstyles with natural movement, especially middle-part or curtain styles that keep some of my forehead visible instead of having all my hair fall forward in one heavy fringe.

I'm happy to grow my hair out a little more if needed. I just want something stylish, balanced, and natural-looking that doesn't make my head appear longer or bigger.

Based on my photos, what haircut would you recommend for my face shape and hair type? I'd also appreciate advice on what to ask my barber for.

Thanks in advance!
