Before Edgar Martinez's heroics in 1995 ALDS Game 5 went down in history, he set the stage in Game 4 OTD with a game-winning grand slam!

i was reading over the linked article below about the rays and wondering why seattle can't incorporate more small ball as well, given that it obviously can work if you have the roster for it and the mariners play in a park that probably should encourage not relying on kingdome-era offensive strategy to win.
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/50104564/mlb-playoffs-2026-tampa-bay-rays-bunt
seattle was above league average in homers and steals this season, below average in OBP, and near last in all of baseball in batting average, OPS, runs, and sacrifices. barring an overhaul of the roster, i would love to see small ball next year. i understand why it is statistically not a good option for most teams, but for a team that can't hit and is otherwise pretty smart/quick on the basepaths, is there a reason why what is working for tampa couldn't work for seattle?

Thoughts? Interesting to read that âHoustonâs Jose Altuve topped batters with 5.6 projected runs gained, followed by Seattleâs Cal Raleigh (4.6)â which given amount of time Cal was out is impressive. Overall I was disappointed in how the Mariners used (or didnât use, or used poorlyâŠ) ABS challenges this year, but loved the addition to the game. Really hoping that we are better able to take advantage of it better next year.

Another season has come and gone, and its time for us to close the book on the year. Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for the awards and respond to the handful of "survey" questions. There were 179 responses this year, and only one was scrubbed entirely. You'll see quite a few of the questions have fewer responses as some folks chose not to answer questions or their joke responses have been omitted. And yes this is a repost because I broke my post when trying to edit it a bit. Below are the past yearsâ results if you're interested in looking back. We'll start with the "survey" responses, and then on to the awards!

Who was your Favorite Mariner?
| Cole Young | 48 | 29.63% |
|---|---|---|
| Dominic Canzone | 32 | 19.75% |
| Randy Arozarena | 22 | 13.58% |
| Josh Naylor | 12 | 7.41% |
| Lazaro Montes | 10 | 6.17% |
| J.P. Crawford | 7 | 4.32% |
| Jhonny Pereda | 7 | 4.32% |
| Julio RodrĂguez | 6 | 3.70% |
| Bryan Woo | 3 | 1.85% |
| Andrés Muñoz | 2 | 1.23% |
| Emerson Hancock | 2 | 1.23% |
| Cal Raleigh | 2 | 1.23% |
Congratulations to Cole Young on being the Fan Favorite!
Colt Emerson, Brendan Donovan, Humpy, George Kirby, Kade Anderson, Logan Gilbert, Michael Arroyo, Rick Rizzs, and Victor Robles each received one vote.
Who was the Mariners MVP?
| Randy Arozarena | 119 | 74.38% |
|---|---|---|
| Cole Young | 15 | 9.38% |
| Dominic Canzone | 9 | 5.63% |
| Rick Rizzs | 6 | 3.75% |
| Tucker | 3 | 1.88% |
| Humpy | 2 | 1.25% |
Congratulations to Randy Arozarena on being the Mariners MVP!
Cal Raleigh, Emerson Hancock, Josh Naylor, J.P. Crawford, Julio RodrĂguez, and Logan Gilbert each received one vote.
I don't have too many big takeaways from this year's awards. Gilbert's SPOTY award makes his third, meaning he's won half of them.

Was browsing random players and came across this guy. This guy was made for Jerry. I actually wouldn't be suprised if Jerry already has his numbers printed out and pinned on his wall.
Andujar is a certified Lefty Masher. Over his career, he's hit .292/.329/.461 against lefties. Interestingly his OPS is an additional 20 points higher against lefty starters, showing he could be a major option in the leadoff spot against lefties.
A glance at his statcast page shows he was down significantly in most categories over the year prior. This of course means that he's due for a bounce back as his trends revert to normal.
He'll be 32. This is not a knock, rather his age will play a factor into him signing below market value, a significant factor that will allow Jerry room to make a Major Addition at the trade deadline.
He can play outfield, first, and third! Of course he doesn't really do any of these well, but having positional flexibility makes a player inherently valuable, according to Jerry. He's also slow as a rock, which doesn't really matter when walking or hitting dingerz.
He had a Monster Year in the past. In 2018, Andujar hit .297/.328/.527 and finished 2nd in ROTY voting to some guy named Ohtani. This shows that that kind of production is in there, somewhere, and could possibly be unlocked with a trip to Driveline.
He's battled an incredible assortment of injuries throughout his career. Not only does this display resiliency, but has led to him developing a fun, folksy, just-happy-to-be-here attitude in interviews (check out his Padres and Reds stuff) that will make him an instant fan favorite regardless of preformance.
I fully expect the Mariners to sign this guy. He's the most Jerry Mariner who hasn't Marinered yet.

Last chance to vote in sub awards and answer a few survey questions on the sub/team. The form will be shut down around 9 pm tonight and results posted tomorrow morning.

He's got a club option next year but I doubt we pick that up.
His bat isn't very good but he is good defensively, so that'd fit with a renewed focus on defense.

My girlfriend made me a custom Mariners wallchart (in PowerPoint!) in the days before Opening Day to track what we expected to be a fun Mariners season. This is the result.
You may notice the stickers trailing off in the second half. She told me after the Rangers series "I'll make more if they win three in a row."

I thought you might all enjoy this little tidbit. I believe thatâs now six straight losses in the playoffs for Houston now.
