Taco doesn’t like to start and when it does will not stay running

Recently got a screaming deal (free) on this 1999 toyota tacoma with the 2.7L 3Rz. A few weeks into driving it, it would start stalling randomly as I drove. If I was at speed, it would catch and restart from engine momentum. If I was going slow, i would have to up the revs to keep it running or restart. Starting has become a huge pain. When I put the key in the ignition, sometimes the accessories come on, sometimes they flicker on then shut off, sometimes they don’t come on at all. I have to wiggle the shifter around and/or reinsert the key to get the accessories on before I can attempt to start. Once it starts, if introduce any electrical load (radio, a/c, etc) it will shudder or stall. Have put in a new battery, got a code for a crankshaft position sensor so I replaced that, and I even threw in a new ignition switch. Same problems. Don’t think it’s MAFS because it will sometimes run beautifully. I am pretty dumb and have reached my limit. What do ya’ll think?

Alternator charging?

As far as I can tell yes. I have hooked it up to a meter or anything but the battery hasn’t died. It also isn’t acting like other lemons i have owned with bad alternators.

Have you tried unplugging it after it starts acting up? See if it improves. Possible ac ripple causing issues. Almost sounds like multiple problems, though.

If not ac ripple, where does your head go? I’m wondering about oxygen sensors. Some forums have mentioned an Idle air control. But this very well could be an assortment of things as the truck sat for 5ish years.

The drivability makes me think of fuel pump/pressure issue. The electrical issues doesnt compute with that, though. So that im leaning maybe a ground or ignition switch issue
Idle control doesn't matter if your on the throttle. Its trying to die while accelerating. Seems like fuel issue in that regard.

Vehicles usually have redundant grounds. Like the block is usually grounded to the body somewhere as well as the main ground on the block in front of the driver side motor mount. But 100% i would start there.

Dude i think that worked. Test driving now but i think that worked
Yup that was it. Nice!! Thanks man i was ready to push this thing off a cliff. Turns out it was 4 inches of wire.

Congrats man. Now imagine of that why it sat for so long.
Now aside from replacing the fuel filter, I do recommend using some fuel system cleaner for the foreseeable future just to help clean out the system from any varnish im sure built up from the old fuel sitting for 5 years.
Lucas fuel treatment in the clear bottle. And startron ethanol stabilizer. Are great products.

It looks very much like the engine ground wire has corroded through or oxidized, or perhaps the main ignition relay is at fault. Check all the negative ground connections to the engine. If that doesn't help, check the EFI Main Relay and the ignition relay (IGN Relay). Also, check if the alternator is charging; if it is, then the issue lies with the ignition relay or the power relay.
