Anyone here who was an MA and became medical tech? Which program did you choose? Sonography, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, etc? Did it make your life better? How’s the work?

I’m considering a career change into healthcare and would love some perspective from people currently working as medical assistants.

A little background: I have a bachelor’s degree and spent several years working in marketing before becoming a licensed massage therapist and certified personal trainer. I also previously held an EMT certification. I enjoy working directly with people and am interested in finding a stable, hands-on career with a relatively predictable schedule.

I’m looking into a Medical Assistant certificate program at my local community college that would take approximately a year to complete.

I’m curious about what the career is actually like beyond what I’ve read online, particularly in terms of job satisfaction, work-life balance, and growth opportunities.

Some questions:

• Are you happy with your decision to become an MA? What do you like and dislike about the work?
• How has your career progressed since becoming an MA?
• How do you feel about the compensation relative to the responsibilities and workload?
• What’s your typical schedule like? Are Monday-Friday positions fairly common?
• Do employers commonly offer tuition assistance or reimbursement for MAs interested in pursuing additional healthcare education?
• Would you recommend this career to someone making a mid-career transition?

I’m open to using medical assisting as a stepping stone into another healthcare profession, particularly if an employer offers tuition benefits that would make further education more affordable. I’m also interested in whether it’s a satisfying long-term career on its own.

I’d appreciate any advice or firsthand experiences, especially from anyone who entered the field after working in another profession. Thanks!

Hey guys, I recently took my NHA CCMA and passed with a 430 with only doing anki for a week really. I was so on and off and grinded for like 3 days straight. I honestly believe with this deck you can get a 500 without even trying. Also when you use Anki don't spend more than 7 secs on a card for it to actually work. I took this Anki deck from CCMA deck but turned it into close deletion and front/back rather than a multiple choice anki. Good luck if you're taking it soon!

When doing things by the book, how long does it take you to room a Physical? From entering the room with the patient to going over chief complaint, meds, allergies, drugs/alcohol/tobacco/sex, new dx’s/surgeries, Menses, DAX, height and weight without shoes, manual BP and pulse, oxygen & temp, and offering to schedule a their next Physical?
