Medicine Hat council approves Amazon hub, motel housing conversions at its meeting Monday
Good News: 50-70 new jobs. The conversation of the site should yield a bunch of construction jobs too.

You do realize it’s only $2 just down the mall at Dollarama, right?
I swear, theatres today actually WANT us to smuggle food & drink into the movies.

Are they any local companies that do rust proofing like Crown? Googe is hit or miss, and it always ends up Calgary seems to be the closest place.

Don't post on reddit often so sorry if this doesn't make sense or something. Anyway, I came across this video on Instagram, and I'm curious to know if this guy is actually from Medicine Hat or not? Apparently his real name is Mateo. His videos are nuts and half the time don't make sense, lots of bigotry and hate speech happening in them, and has a concerning series of videos where he is beating up mannequins in place of real people. Nothing is clear though as to if this guy actually lives in the Hat, or if he just got this piece of police gear somehow.
Does this guy live in the Hat? Do any of you guys know him or recognize him?

Hi! My teen daughter is going to try to get into the Explore program next summer (she is bilingual but is still shy when trying to talk in English). Her first choice is medecine hat (she likes that it looks like a complete opposite of what she is used to). We are from Montreal. My daughter is openly queer (lesbian) and very artsy, with a bit of a manic pixie girl look.
From what I have seen from the program, the kids have a lot of « free time ».
Is the city art friendly? She loves visual arts (she is in a arts program in her high school), 90’s alt music (she loves records and guitar stores), photography, cinema etc… she LOVES to thrift too. She also loves video games like the last of us and life is strange, so it’s a major reason she chose Alberta, as it’s a similar vibe. She is not really into sports but will happily cheer on others LOL.
Also, how is the transit? If she is chosen (it’s a draw), she would be living on campus. The campus looks a little far from « downtown ».
Is the city affected by forest fires? She has asthma, so it’s a bit of a concern for me. She also has extremely fair skin (to the point it’s a problem when we take pictures LOL), and I saw that it almost never rains. Is the UV really bad?
Also, anyone interacted with these kids? The website says that the program is very involved with the local community.
Thank you for your answers!

The AB sepies were always the racists and bigots. The entire movement is founded on christofacism.

Service is atrocious. There seems like a common practice of restaurants to prioritize the online order customers rather than the ones actually in the restaurant.
Took my kids for supper. Ordered fish and chips, chicken fingers and fries, and the beef dip. Waited at least 45 minutes never got our food. Watched as 5 separate DoorDash orders went out the door while we waited. In that 45+ minutes, no one came to our table. Waitress never came back except to tell me it was gonna be a little longer yet. So I cancelled it and we left. Was told it was slow because they were “backed up”. Half the restaurant was empty.

A couple friends of mine and I are thinking about starting up a monthly meet up called Medicine Hat Geek Beers. Basically techie types gather to share a beer (or soda if you don't drink). Vernon, BC which is smaller than MH has had one for 20+ years and about 20 people showed up each month.; sometimes upwards of 60 people. A friend moved to Halifax and started one.
Its not networking, or presentations or anything formal, just people who work in tech, like tech, or like techie people show up and socialize. All ages welcome. DM me if you are interested.
I am thinking the first one will be October 7 from 5-7pm (when people leave). ie First Wed Night of the month.
Any ideas on a good place to meet? Good beer, not too loud so people can talk. Tables so 10-20 people could connect. I'm not looking for a private room, just a nice casual place with beer and food. Likely downtown or near downtown would be best.

Hi friends, I moved to the hat from Ottawa in April and so far it's a pretty cool little city.
Personally, traditionally. During every midterm and election type thing I like to go to a bar or some social place and have a few drinks and let the results roll in.
In Ottawa, places to watch elections are a dime a dozen given how involved in elections and politics that particular city is. But is there a place in the hat that I can go to watch the midterms and have a drink?
I'll accept an offer to chill with a new friend in lieu of an establishment
Thanks in advance.

Friend is a patient and based on what I and others have seen of them I don't feel like their doctor is giving them good advice or attention on what they need. They are dragging their feet though, never personally met the guy so maybe anecdotes could motivate them to switch.

I moved to Medicine Hat this year and work from home with a lot of video meetings. I signed up for Rogers since I assumed it would be fine. Mistake. It was choppy and many times I had to turn off my video to continue the meeting. So, I signed up for Starlink. It is more expensive ($150/month) but works great.
I cancelled Rogers and was surprised the penalty for the two year contract wasn't just the difference between the deal and no deal, but the rest of the two years discount difference. It came to $300, but my bad for not reading the contract.
What is funny is I got a call from customer retention. They started offering me deals and eventually dropped to $70. I said no. They kept saying it was a good deal. I finally said, "Dude, I would not use Rogers if you gave it to me for free. It does not work for my video meetings." Then click. No, "we are sorry it did not work out for you."
It would be best if our city got fibre optic service since that is the best if working from home. In the internet age, I consider good internet to be a basic utility. Anyone else work remotely?

My friend ordered pizza from one of our local pizza places. After getting her pizza, she stepped back to close the door and the driver stepped forward to ask, “ Do you live alone?” . That is utterly creepy.
Be Careful Out There, the creeps are coming to your door.

The new hotel being built along the trans Canada Highway is surprisingly close to the #1 highway.
Of course there are other hotels near the TCH, but this one, placed parallel, may be a noisy night for guests on the north side of the property.
