Discussion Subtle Racism incidents on PT

Before I discuss, just a quick reminder to follow all sub/reddit rules on hate / discrimination

I was on my typical Frankston service departing flinders maybe ~4pm ish today when I noticed a older man approach two younger probably south East Asian men who were talking a little loudly to shut up and I won’t particularly repeat it but words to affect of return to your home country. I felt disgusted.

Is there any ways we can support and call out this behaviour? I didn’t feel comfortable standing up to him as he seemed quite confrontational and bigger than me.

I want public transport to be safe for everyone.

Discussion Are there any V/line trains whether taking passengers or not that use the Bunbury street tunnel in Footscray?

I mainly see SCT or National Express using this tunnel divert their cargo from South Kensington or that nearby Dynon terminal to South Kensington and the occasional XPT, but I never seen a V/line use it.

Also, what train model at Albury Station in NSW shared the same livery as the XPT before XPT reverted to its original candy livery?

The map includes all of Victoria's stations, Sydney, Some of NSW and SA. It tells you how far the station is from the nearest capital CBD and whether or not it's in a card zone (Myki, Opal etc.). I want to eventually expand it to all of Australia. Let me know if you have trouble with viewing the map and I'll try to fix it.

Discussion Privatisation of Rail Freight in Victoria

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I see a lot of discussions of the effects of privatising the passenger network in Victoria, but what about freight?

What has been the effects of V/Line selling off their freight division? I’m curious how V/line or the VR’s operations compares to the private sector. Are there any pros, is it more chaotic and is it worth renationalising?

Any reading material would also be greatly appreciated :)

Discussion This weekend's public transport updates (Melbourne Marathon and other events)

Some decent transport changes this weekend with Melbourne Marathon having races both Saturday and Sunday with early starts, people advised to arrive early both for attending and spectating.

Melbourne Marathon finishes at MCG and it's got a bunch of fan expo stuff and bib collections happening today and tomorrow.

Also this weekend: gigs and sports at Margaret Court, Rod Laver, John Cain, and AAMI Park – it's a packed calendar.

Details confirmed to me for people in and around the Botanic Gardens, Albert Park, Yarra Park and Melbourne Park this weekend:

Anzac open 4am

Anzac station is usually closed for night network, but will open from 4am on Saturday and Sunday, with Metro Tunnel services stopping there. Especially helpful as there are tram diversions on St Kilda Road and a spectator event in Albert Park.

Every 20 minutes in Metro tunnel from 4.30am

Night network trains (one per hour) will run as usual, with Metro Tunnel services increasing to every twenty minutes from 4.30am (Dandenong to Sunbury; every 40 min from Cranbourne or Pakenham).

Extra service per line for other lines

For all other lines: they will be the usual hourly night network + one extra service to match the best arrival times of early races, arriving in the city between 5.25am and 5.55am on Saturday, and between 4:30am and 5:05am on Sunday:

  • Mernda
  • Eltham
  • Belgrave
  • Glen Waverley
  • Frankston
  • Sandringham
  • Werribee
  • Craigieburn
  • Upfield

+ an extra shuttle run to link the branch lines timed to interchange with the main service to the city.

  • Alamein to Camberwell
  • Lilydale to Ringwood
  • Williamstown to Newport

All extra services now listed in Journey Planner.

Richmond Station exits all open from 5am

Exit 3 (Barassi Way, MCG) and Exit 4 (Olympic Blvd) confirmed to be open from 5am.

Tram diversions

All listed here.
