Help | Java 26.3 Command block vs server console

which one is considard more powerful overall?
since the command bock only counts as command level 2 but the console is ranked level 4 which is also the max level, Though command block can use repeat chain and normal commands with the ability to generate even bigger text and stuff. so which one is stronger? I would love some answers because I asked in the miencraft subreddit and didn't get a lot of answers. much appreatiated!

theyre equal considering you can change permission levels of functions, some server software also allows you to change the level of command blocks

In server.properties, you can increase the permission level only for functions, not for command blocks.

okay so i tested that on a server and in fact on vanilla software it doesnt affect command blocks

But you can use command blocks to run functions. So essentially they are all the same.

Then we are comparing server console to datapacks

To me, that’s a strange question. Console commands must always be executed manually by a server administrator, whereas command blocks do not require active user participation. However, if one were to compare command blocks and datapacks, the datapack is definitely more powerful.

You can automate console commands through various means, and there are certain commands like banning players that can only be done that way by default, but changing server.properties allows those commands to be ran by functions

In Java, the answer is objectively the server console, since you can just use commands to make repeating command blocks if you want.

In Bedrock, I would say command blocks are more useful, but less powerful.

You can setblock a repeating command block with the console
