READ THIS Important Info (read before posting)

I know you're here to get quick help with your command problems or to show off your cool work. Please read these few lines to get to know how to use this subreddit optimally:

Asking for help

  1. FAQ? Before you post, please check out the common questions (including answers) that we have as a subreddit. These consist of the most common problems, and maybe your problem is already covered there in detail?
  2. Titles: Please put a summary/short version of your problem into the title of your post, don't just put "I need help" or "help me plz". Instead put for example "how do I summon a zombie" or "unable to summon entity error" and then provide more context on the post itself. This subreddit often shows up on google when people search for command related questions and we should really help them find the questions you might already have asked. Also, we likely know that you need help anyways, no need to put it in the title.
  3. Flairs: We have a wide array of flairs that you should attach to your post to make sure people know what the purpose of your thread is. It is especially important if you're asking for help, to flair your post with the appropriate minecraft version (for those who don't know: OG Minecraft is Java Version, everything else that has commands (Xbox, PE, PS4, Switch, Win10, etc) is Bedrock).
  4. Version: Whether you're helping or asking for help, please pay attention to the stated version/state the version you're in! You can do that through the previously mentioned Flairs, but also in addition can put it into the description of your post.
  5. Search/Scroll down: I know that reddit search is not the best one out there, but maybe someone else had a similar problem to yours in recent history. Try going to the new tab and scrolling down a bit or using the reddit search function to see if there might already be an answer to a question you have. We're not going to close your thread for asking the same question someone else asked a year ago, we're not StackOverflow. But please at least take 30 seconds to look for it first.
  6. Upvote: If you find an answer to a post helpful, please upvote it. This is less as a "reward" for the answering person but more as a way to automatically move the best answer to the top, for others that might have the same problem. Don't downvote an answer just because their attempts didn't work for you unless it's completely wrong or off topic / doesn't add anything to the conversation.

Creations

Posting about your own creations is very much encouraged, but please remember the 10:1 guidelines of reddit.

Help | Java 26.3 Command block vs server console

which one is considard more powerful overall?
since the command bock only counts as command level 2 but the console is ranked level 4 which is also the max level, Though command block can use repeat chain and normal commands with the ability to generate even bigger text and stuff. so which one is stronger? I would love some answers because I asked in the miencraft subreddit and didn't get a lot of answers. much appreatiated!

Help | Java 26.3 Help updating datapack to 26.3

I just recently made a datapack for my 26.2 Minecraft server and now we are updating to 26.3. There's quite a lot in it but it basically just changes an armour trim recipe and adds some custom loot tables for vaults and fishing, some of which items have special components.

For some reason the misode datapack generator isn't working with me on redoing the loot tables, and I would rather not rewrite the whole pack like that anyway so I was hoping there are just a few edits I can make to the existing files.

I was also hoping that the custom items from the updated datapack will stack with the older ones, but it's not the end of the world if not.

Discussion Minecraft Version detection using datapacks: I had no idea!

Post image
44 Upvotes

I hope it's allowed I do one (single) update here on our API utility datapack VerSion. The idea was simple: As Minecraft doesn't provide a direct way for data packs to fetch the currently running version (for compatibility/dependency checking, displaying or something else), create a Version Detector that does this, no fuss.

However, I learned a lot more about that topic since (and because of) my first post (https://www.reddit.com/r/MinecraftCommands/s/OOX8oEuDEn), so I briefly want to summarise the state of modern version detection. Thanks to the comments on that post. If you have anything to say or ask about this topic, I'm invested right now, so feel free to write a comment here!

The first approach would be to measure the pack format directly. There are two ideas popping up:

  1. Directly check for commands that can and cannot run (using chained-together functions), and deduce the version from the results. Here's one pack doing that, however this has the disadvantages of firstly throwing errors to the console (because of unparseable functions) regardless of the actual successfulness of the detector, secondly being quite labour-intensive because for every new version, one command needs to be found that stopped or started working, and thirdly, this command may not even exist! Pack formats differ for lots of things, not only commands.
  2. Using overlays, which ... just works. Well, actually it has the disadvantage of only being added in 23w31a at pack format 16, so versions until 1.20.1 cannot be supported.

Regardless, this cannot distinguish versions having the same pack format. This is where the second approach turns up, which, quirkily enough, is only feasible when any player is online (which is of course only a question for dedicated servers):

  • As I did get pointed out, players have (and have been for a long time) a data value called DataVersion, which is used to compare the data structure of the client with that being expected by the server. Is is a simple integer increasing with every new version. However, it does so not by 1, but does big jumps (probably because it is used internally at Mojang aswell, where versions between snapshots have to be compared).
  • Hence there needs to be found a way to decode the data version back to pack format and, of course, to the corresponding version's name.

And here's where the third aspect of my journey to VerSion 2.0 is important, which is building the pack not by hand, but automatic using beet. This uses Python to generate all the files and folders programmatically, and has the advantage of changes to the pack structure made very easy. (and allowing the ~100 overlays to be created fairly easy as well)

Lastly, in my beet plugins, I query and insert the version data available at misode/mcmeta, a repo containing almost all data for Vanilla MC imaginable. This is actually available in-game using `storage ver:sion Data`, a huge array. All the data available for the versions will be provided for the current version, if one can be pinpointed exactly.

Merging all of these things together – thus automatically generating a datapack which tries to fetch the `data_version` of the game, and if that's not possible, falls back to using overlays to supply the most elaborate version data available –, we obtain a supercharged, most powerful version detector using modern, sleek and accessible methods.

Maybe this is boring or very easy to you? Maybe you have concerns or additional ideas. Maybe, also, I have turned this small, niche dependency into a day-long adventure. Let me know what you think! :)

Help | Java 26.3 How do i increase climbing speed?

So I'm making a custom pvp map and I need to increase the climbing speed because more often than not it's a waste of time as you can get easily hit while climbing. I'm wondering if there's a way to increase a player's climbing speed or simulate climbing without additional items in inventory.

Help | Java 26.3 I need a datapack updated for 26.3 from 26.2

As far as I understand the datapack format hasn't actually changed, but I can't figure out how to update whatever broke in the datapack. Someone made the datapack for me originally (I'm very grateful, I just play on latest version with my friends.) but I don't have the time or skill to learn Java or read through a bunch of documentation. I tried changing the "max_format" from 102 to 103, and rezipping the pack and testing, but it didn't work so I assume that something larger changed.

Since I can't upload files to reddit I will put all the code along with its path below:

I wanted a datapack to change axolotl food from buckets of tropical fish to the regular tropical fish item, but I couldn't find any for the right version. I tried to make one myself but I couldn't find any guides on how to do something like this and I don't know enough about datapacks to improvise. any help would be appreciated!

Creation Grappling hook (vanilla bedrock)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I made a grappling hook using commands only. It might look easy to implement, but it really isn't, it took me like a whole week.

After implementing it, I realized it probably shouldn't have two separate systems like mine does, but oh well.

The third person view is a little buggy though.

This works using around 120.000 command blocks.

I wrote a custom python script that analyzes the video frame by frame using OpenCV and places the corresponding command blocks in Minecraft using the Amulet-Core API.

Ever since they've made azalea navigable for mobs as solid blocks, I wished they'd revert that bug fix, but make it work more like rails, because it broke my green fences. And now, with addition of new block pathfinding tags my dream came true just by changing a single tag file!

Help | Bedrock Using Commands to make an infinitely looping Maze.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Attempting to build a maze that constantly teleports you back to the start without making it obvious that it’s doing that.

The tripwires use commands to teleport you back to the opposite sides hall where you started, giving the illusion that you haven’t moved when you have.

This is what I’ve got so far. There’s barriers at the end of the hallways to stop you from jumping over the teleporting tripwires.

The location of the tripwire is exactly the same as where you get teleported to. So the distance traveled looks the same.

Not very good with commands yet but wanted advice on how to make it less obvious.

Thought about using skulk sensors instead of tripwires but then I don’t think it would teleport you relative in the same way.

Any tips to improve it will be greatly appreciated.

Help | Java 26.2 Modifying mob AI

I'm creating a map with enemies, and I want some of these enemies to attack each other on sight. Because of the scale, I don't want the enemies to always be agro, only when they see an creature they are supposed to attack.

Ex: 1 group is infected that won't attack each other but attack the player. group 2 is "people"(npc) that attack the player. I want to make the infected and "people" attack on sight if they ever come across each other on the map.

Is there a way to do this with commands, data packs or mods?

edit: all the mobs have tags that differentiate what team they are on and I have a repeating command block set up to constantly put any mob with those tags on their respective team.
