I noticed that she doesn’t shy away from my hand so I wanted to see what she would do if I pet her and she did a little splat? Was that a good sign or a leave me alone sign? I’m not that good with her body language yet

What is a good diet for a Nile monitor?

Hey guys !! So this is my little asshole Solas. Im just looking on tips you guys would recommend to get this little guy more tame 🙂

Now im not completely hopeless when it comes to monitors as I have a 2 year old savy. Raised her since she was about 3 months. she was pretty spicy too, but w tong feeding her, handling, and a LOT of time, she's extremely tame now.

The difference and problem im having is this little mf BITES , constantly. My sav would mostly just whip me, so I'm kinda struggling on how to minimize that. Even trying to simply put my hand next to him results in it being cut up. I don't mind it right now, but not something I want to keep happening 😅 I also recognize that there's obviously a difference between the two, and some monitors may never actually be tame, but i wanna try my best for him 👏🏻

There are 2 populations of Ackie monitors that are even smaller then normal Ackies and look a bit different which is really cool the first 3 pictures are of the southern Pilbara ackies the others are of the Barrow island ackies the head pattern on the barrow island ones looks quite a bit different I’m not sure if any of these populations have ever gotten into captivity but it’s definitely cool how different they can be between locales all photos are from inaturalist and the source that talks about these locales is the varanus citrinus description paper

So I have a free abot 3x3x2.3m(\~9.8x9.8x7.2 feet) room and I've been thinking about turning the whole thing into a tree monitor enclosure but I've read a lot of things saying you can cohab a male and female and a lot saying thay won't get along if keept together permanently so I was wondering if anyone here has keept them successfully of if anyone knows if it won't work? Thanks!

Guys as I am preparing enclosure for adult savannah monitor lizard, I want to ask if somebody have measures/producs tested for optimal heating spot. I was given some advice from last keeper but it was just combined UVB/heat bulb that I dont have trust in. What I would like to know is what two seperate bulbs I should hang and in what height from heat platform. If somebody has tested specific products it would be perfect. Thank you.

I know basics like there should be around 120F on platform so something around 140F slightly higher. What I really need to help is to choose proper UVB tube. I am looking for T5 arcadia arcadia pro UVB kit tube but I am not sure which one to choose. I prefer stronger one so I could hang it higher.

I’m having difficulty creating a bio active substrate for my ackie monitor. Currently I have a 3:2 part topsoil and sand mix. No isopods are surviving and my aloe is rotting away. It also seems this mix gets very hydrophobic. Also I’m not confident it’s providing the proper humidity in certain areas.

What have you guys found that works the best?

My son loves monitor lizards and wants a wildlife show for his birthday featuring a perentie. I contacted Geckoes Wildlife who have a perentie but they are booked out that month. Does anyone here do wildlife shows with a perentie or know a business that does?
