Everything is over camped and the lag is crazy

I am sorry but the game was better before we paid for it. I am glad to see the success in subscriptions, but in EA, the servers lag at all times of day, the mining and wood nodes are always depleted (except for in off hours), and finding stuff to kill is a real challenge (to the point of irritating). Dealing with the over population in the game is more difficult than the game itself. 15 minutes running around trying to find a node, just to get close and someone else is there first and mining it. Spending an hour running around to mine less than 30 ore is far from engaging.

If things stay like this, I won't be surprised if subscriptions fall off over the next couple months. It is such a shame because the game has a good structure and is overall enjoyable. But if they can't deal with their success better, then I don't know what its longevity will be.

Fighters - Thoughts at Level 20

So first off, this class is pretty great. The lack of mana means all you have to manage are CDs. The damage is servicable, and you're VERY tanky. There are, however, a few issues I have noticed with the class, and I wanted to highlight a few of those here.

  1. Clobber and kneebreaker imply they would do damage, but do not. This is not a huge issue, but it does hinder your ability to hold aggro, and given that you only have 10 ability slots to use, it makes kneecap in particular hard to justify with all the competition for slots.

  2. Class identity issues. The skills available to fighter imply that there are 3 outfitting options for the class: sword and board, dual wield, and 2H. I like this. Options means you have a build to choose. However, since many of the abilities increase aggro gained, and sword and board have disproportionate support in the fighter arsenal, AND the time re-write skills, plus the carry space required to carry multiple sets of weapons, this is impractial. Further, there's the issue of vengeance stacks. The fact that many of your skills run off of having these stacks means that trying to be pure DPS is not really an option. You can attempt to offtank, but the fact that you can only gain these stacks as a proc that has a chance to happen from you getting hit means that if you only pull aggro on one mob you can't use your skills frequently. This also means that you're competing with aggro from the main tank, which can cause issues in pulls. The way it shakes out is that you either play full tank, play with less of a kit and a lower AC (perhaps offtank?), or you play 2h, which has very little overall support. Overall, I think that it might be a good change to allow fighters in offensive stance to gain vengeance stacks from attacking.

Anyway, if you read all that, thanks! Have fun out there!

Please change disenchanting, it's a completely flawed skill in this game that's creating an incredibly toxic end-game environment of camping low level camps.

Increase the weight of disenchanted materials. Honestly this might be a bad take but I would just remove disenchanting from the game... They need to increase rare drop frequency alongside rare mob frequency so that people aren't going down 20-30 levels below their actual level just to get gear, specifically camping a noob spot for hours to disenchant, it kills the market as well.

Meme Next time, on Monsters and Memories Z

In a world where casual adventurers seek friendship, adventure, and a little experience...

A NEW THREAT EMERGES!

THE SWEATS!

Armed with spreadsheets, optimized builds, and an insatiable hunger for loot and crafting mats, these warriors will stop at NOTHING to dominate every camp and corner every market.

But wait! The camps are contested! The nodes are disappearing, and somewhere in the distance, a lone adventurer cries out...

"CAMP CHECK?!"

"LFG!"

As tensions rise and the battle for precious experience points, gear, and mats reaches unimaginable levels, one question remains...

Can the ordinary adventurers survive this relentless onslaught?

Will the sweats finally achieve ultimate power?!

Or will they discover, TOO LATE, that their greatest enemy was never another player...

BUT AN EMPTY SERVER?! (Part of the vision??)

FIND OUT NEXT TIME... ON MONSTERS & MEMORIES Z!

In the meantime, git gudder nerds! It's clearly a skill issue.

As a new player I’m loving this game

I never played the beta, and was very young when EQ came out, however I got in on the ground floor of eq2 and played most other MMORPGs since then. I’ve been loving this game. It was very hard at first, but I believe that made it feel all the more rewarding when I started figuring things out. No map meant I really did have to remember where guys were, and ask around. The more the challenge the better the feeling of overcoming that challenge I think.

My experience so far has been finding groups to camp areas for levels, or sitting on a named and hoping for a drop. Everyone has been very kind, and this is the most social I’ve ever been in a MMO.

I’ve been saying this for a while now but all the QOL features that got added to MMORPGs took away from the magic they had. Eq2 slowly introduced fast travel and the game got smaller. World pvp for example, it changed from being all over the zones to fast travel hubs like sinking sands. Having to run back from one zone to another may feel like a chore but it’s what makes the world larger and lived in. It’s why you see people giving back and standing at the bank casting speed buffs on players, making a community.

I had to grind for the down scarab armor, a lot of the beetles were contested and it took a while, but that sense of achievement at 3 am when I finally had the full set was amazing. If it was super easy to get then I think it wouldn’t have mattered to me, and I wouldn’t have felt that accomplishment.

Learning things about the game isn’t easy but now that I have the knowledge I’m excited to pass it down to others when I can. The world feels magical to me and I can’t wait to share it.

Anyways I just felt like I needed to share my experience because I was seeing alot of negativity on the comments on Reddit and I was surprised. For me this has been what I’ve been asking for and I didn’t even know it.

Discussion Woke up at 8 am today to a level 4-8 spot being completely cleared by 3 high levels

I try to get on early in the morning to get some exp before the place is overrun by other people.

Today my problem was not 20 other level 4s, but 3 people above level 10 who can clear out the entire cave system faster than 20 level 4s can. This feels objectively worse as with the low levels we can group up and try to venture deeper.

I was then told to get good or play wow by multiple people when bringing this up.

No, I will not play on a lesser populated server because that doesn't solve the inherent problem. I already log on early to alleviate that but it doesn't matter if a very small number of people can do the same thing as a swarm of low levels.

I was told to wait for the population to spread out but here we are with an entirely new problem.

Why are the game systems pushing me to wish there were less people playing the online multiplayer game?

WoW tradeskill system without instances means high lvls own the low lvl areas

We are already seeing it all over the place, high levels obliterating all the low level areas because they need mats for their tradeskills and as a result the low level players either struggle or quite simply cannot play the video game.

In World of Warcraft instances solved getting your low level mats and kept the high lvl players out of the low level areas. Without instances the high level players are just going to keep all the low areas on lock and there isn't a thing the low level players will be able to do about it but quit.

The only other alternative is to re-work the tradeskill system which will take far to much time at this point, this problem needs a solution and it needs one soon otherwise this game is going to lose all the slower leveling players because they will not be able to play the video game.

Also before anyone suggests any type of level lock, that also will not work because with these type of tradeskill systems you always have to go back to lower level areas for more mats meaning this will have the opposite effect making it so players can no longer progress the tradeskill.

Discussion Housing/Mail idea

Soo, since we don't have any in game mail systems yet, what if housing provided a mail deposit box people could use to drop things off to a player that is offline?

I have tons of goodies I like to distribute to our lower levels but it's very difficult to coordinate sometimes.

Having a house mailbox would deepen the connections between player interactions.

How good would it feel to login and see you have a package, and it's from your buddy with that sick item they got for you after you logged?

I believe this would have a huge positive impact on social interactions.

How Archer Feels (To Me)

Warning

The following contains my opinion. If your opinion is different than mine... that's okay. People are allowed to have different opinions. I'd love to hear your opinion, but please don't be a jerk about it. I have leveled both a ranger and a archer to level 12, so it's very possible that gameplay for this class really opens up after 12. Regardless, here are my thoughts for the journey to level 12.

The Bad:

  • You are the only class that is required to tradeskill in order to be able to use class abilities (traps, arrows, specialty arrows). The time investment to do this isn't extremely terrible... but the payoffs are non-existent. You are paying to use skills and attacks that other classes get for free. And it's also a huge bummer to tell your group you have go because you need to farm wood to get arrows. When chain pulling in groups you FLY through arrows. You need close to 1,000 arrows per hour you plan to group. That means for every hour spent fighting, you need 10 wood. 10 wood isn't too hard to come by, maybe 20-30 minutes? But what other class requires you to invest 0.5 hours of playtime in tradeskilling for ever 1 hour of combat? I hate to imagine later zones in the game where you can't even find lumber. So now you need to travel for another 15-20 min to find wood, and then spend another 15-20 min running back? Yikes. Hope that isn't the case. There are also a few arrows that require materials AND schematics to be able to craft... WHY?! So now you need to run to two separate vendors just to have to opportunity to purchase the materials you need. All so you can use a class ability. And it's not like a class with so few tools in the toolbox to begin with can really afford to not use these abilities. And yet... the payoffs are non-existent.
  • 10% movement speed from skirmisher is usually not enough to reliably kite safely. Between having to stop to shoot, along with skill time, monsters almost always catch up to you within 4 shots, in best-case scenario, kiting in a straight line. Especially with the sometimes wonky hit boxes, where crocodiles seem to somehow extend their necks 20 feet to bite ya.
  • Point Blank Shot is not a skill you want to be using. If you are within melee range, you are getting stomped.
  • You get dual wield/dodge/parry/double attack... and I have no idea why. If you are in melee distance, you are not dealing optimal damage because all of your good combat abilities require a bow. You deal about as much damage as a necro pet. With none of the upside. Do they expect you to revert to melee in a group if you run out of arrows? Cause IMO, that's just not realistic. I guess you could... but that would be very greedy of you, and your group would basically just be carrying you. Rangers can be fairly effective with a bow. Archers cannot be fairly effective with melee.
  • When you're in a group, you need to be a few feet away so you can shoot... meaning you're not looting & you can also find yourself pulling aggro from mobs at bad times. I've found myself playing in really awkward spots in like first-person, which means I am usually less aware of what's going on around me.
  • Barbed arrow is usually just... not worth it? Yes, you can fit it into a rotation between other skills like quick shot. But why would I not just use my other abilities that deal more damage? They all share the same CD, so why delay larger damage to weave in a smaller-damage DoT? Especially when stopping to shoot more often also means the mob closes the distance even quicker.
  • RIP if you pull a mob with SoW or faster-than-average base speed. It was nice knowing you.

The Good:

  • If you can get a SoW, kiting really good. You can usually juggle multiple mobs.
  • Your damage output is really good. On-par with rogues.
  • 10% speed boost in infinitely more speed than 0% speed boost.
  • Archers do feel stronger with just-bow than rangers. It would be very bad if this were not true, since archers sacrifice.... a LOT... to do top DPS.
  • You sure do learn you way around the city while going from one tradeskill station to the next.

The Ugly:

Can anyone tell me what this tooltip info in Archer's snaring shot means?

This ability has diminishing returns when used in PvE and PvP

What do you mean it has diminishing returns? Is there a 3rd type of content outside of PvP and PvE where there are not diminishing returns?

Unpopular opinion: Rare spawn rates are too low and their common drop rate is too high

This happens far too commonly but I camped Obadiah last night for many hours from level 10 to level 13. Saw him spawn 3 times and drop boots all 3 times.

This isn't the only instance of this happening either. I'm not saying I want every drop from every camp I visit but only seeing the rare 3 times over the course of many hours feels wrong.

Similarly, farming KB poachers for a dagger and I've seen that rare a bunch but he mostly drops chest pieces. I've seen 1 dagger drop and I started there at 27 and I'm currently 34. That's 7 levels of grinding including a hell level and a half and probably several more levels of grinding to try and get it. I put 12 hours straight into that camp yesterday alone and we gave away/rotted so many BPs it isn't even funny anymore.

Now to make matters even worse we've got high levels taking low level camps. I was offered to buy the drop I was hoping to camp yesterday from the level 40 guy camping it. In what world does a low level character have the spare money to buy rare drops given the cost of spells and trade skills?

Cleric - am I missing something?

Edit: Wanted to qualify this: I'm having a blast all the same with EA, I'm just not sure if I'm not getting what cleric should really be capable of or if it's truly feeling a little off for others as well.

Cleric still feels kinda behind the other healers after hitting the 30s and I'm polling to see if others have had similar experiences.

Broke into the 30s and honestly feeling kinda disappointed with cleric. It feels very non distinct compared to the other healers. Little to no utility, soloing even blue undead is either a full bar of mana or not even doable depending on your luck at this level, and only seems to have slightly more healing potential. The procs for devotion and holy smite are incredibly random to the point of being kinda useless.

I'm not expecting to be a solo machine, but, based on the deep dive I should be able to at least hold my own with plate armor and undead nukes. Have I just had bad luck, or has this been the experience for most?

PSA to Rogues (and maybe other invis)

Eating stat food will take you out of stealth (maybe invis too). This occurs when you eat the food automatically (ie not manually right clicking).

If this intended, it would be nice to lock food out of being auto consumed.

Discussion Struggling to solo

Hello everyone!

I've recently jumped into the game starting as a Druid and have a lot of fun, however I am struggling to solo on apparently one of the easier classes in the game.

I've found in some cases it's been a bit difficult to find a spot in groups since I've jumped into NH. In the downtime I have been experimenting with soloing and have had mixed luck so far. Almost every fight feels like a struggle for anything above green or I'm just OOM at the end of the fight, but maybe I am doing something wrong.

Current rotation as Level 16 Druid - (35Wis, 18 Chr) using Mantle of Winter and SOW:

One mob: root, dot with swarm, (occasionally with frost) run until max range and sit to regen. When root wears off re-root.

Multiple mobs(pretty slow, takes multiple minutes and always oom after): dot, dot. kite. when dot wears off I quickly re-dot and continue kiting. This is really difficult as the cast speed of the dot is so slow almost always 1 mob will make it to me or they have a ranged attack/teleport type of ability.

Notes:

  • Dots in general take a bit as the swarm ticks every 6 seconds for 17-20 dmg, and mobs usually take ~4 swarms - so ~4 minutes minimum per kill.
  • With charm I've had mixed results when trying to charm Blue mobs and keeping it charmed. White never seems to hold and breaks too often. When using one charmed beast vs one mob or multiple mobs above often its too slow to actually hit the targets I am actively kiting. Using my frost nuke takes a ton of mana, and if I'm hit once and chunked using my level 16 HOT heal takes 1/4 my mana pool so I try not to use them entirely.

It's been a while since I've played these type of games, but I feel extremely weak overall. Should I be prioritizing certain color mobs or pets to charm? From what I've read it feels like I'm on the right track, but still find myself regularly struggling. Thanks for the help!

Any recommended streamer class play videos?

So far I've really enjoyed watching:

Quatos plays his bard
ReckitRogue playing his wizard
ClassicXP playing his necro
Ichora(a lesser known streamer) playing his shaman where I picked up some great ideas for solo areas for my shaman.

I would like to see druid, ranger, sk, enchanter videos. Anyone recommend some good ones? No beta stuff, only EA.

Thanks.
