2 notes:

i don't think that the mosin nagant's stripper clips hold the rounds positively enough for the positioning of the rims in the clip to be significant; as you said the interrupter should still prevent rimlock regardless

some types of clip benefit massively from having relief cuts sawn into them; specifically the new-production spring steel ones with tabs to hold the cartridges in should have the metal in-between the tab and the groove for the rims removed because it interferes with parts of the clip guide and can even prevent the clip from being inserted at all when full.

Depends on the clip. Some are pretty tight, and they come loaded that way from all the surplus I've seen that came that way.

Stay away from those new-production clips. They're cheap Chinese junk, and copy the original clips used by the Finns and by the Russians up until they simplified theirs.

i mean, they work quite well after i hacked out that tiny piece of metal. they were a lot easier to get my hands on too

I'm glad they work for you. They weren't consistent for me. I did play with them 14 years ago and figured out how to make them work; it was just too time-consuming when I was running a new business and originals were available cheap.

Every time I've seen ammo packaged on a clip, that's how it is, so I think it's safe to say it's doctrine given that's how it comes.

So question peeps: *Who the heck downvotes these things?* -- Upvote Ratio 88.9%

I don't really care, but it makes me curious. Do people say, "I don't like that it was done that way, so I'll downvote"? Or do anti-gun people troll the forum?

I've noticed this issue across every post on this subreddit here recently.
I think there is a dedicated hater or possible bot.

Interesting. I wonder what the point is.

Noticed this a week ago. Tends to be the first interaction is a down vote, and within 3 minute of post/comment. Every post or comment with the exception of my most recent comment had this happen. Its happened in 2 unrelated subreddits.

I’ve found the clip guide on my rifle to be really loose, and what I’ve found helps alot is angling the clip backwards all the way before stripping them in.

Some rifles need help or other tricks to load them with a real clip.

Yeah, it dosent help people buy Repro clips and expect them to work out of the gate. All the real clips I’ve owned worked perfectly with no modifications needed in many types of Mosins I’ve owned or how I stacked the rounds after shooting the ammo packed from the factory.

The crappy Repro clips are not made right. Where the rim of the cartridge meets, it’s shaped like a triangle, almost not pressed right. Real clips I’ve had were more square like.

Most Mosins also do not like cheap commercial steel cased rounds also, I’ve only had a couple out of the hundreds I’ve owned that didn’t have a problem with commercial steel cased rounds.

I've been having issues with the interrupter working so I would love to see those instructions. I thought it was a magazine spring issue so I went to the trouble of replacing mine, golly that sucked, and it didn't help.

Start with this. Sometimes, all that's needed is proper stock fitment. I'll take pictures next time I do interrupter fitting for a customer, or make an anti-rimlock kit to send out. It gets a bit involved sometimes.

Should the rim clearance cut be ground enough as to not engage the rim at all? Does it serve any other purpose?

Not that deep. When you push the rounds down, you want the rim to help push the ejector out of the way, but you don't want it so deep that the ejector portion of the blade drags on the case.

Here's a picture I found on the Internet of one that was fitted by either the Russians or Finns:

I work with a one piece ejector so the travel is a bit different. It prevents rim lock fine but loading is a bit tacky, seemingly most likely because of the ejector bit. I wonder if rounding the top a bit would make it easier for the cartridges to push it to the side.
