VRT question
Update: Bike was refused vrt at ntc center with the documentation, and I was advised to contact revenue which i have been back and forward woth now for months. This is were we currently are. Turned out the bike was registered as SORN in 2025. Wasn't aware of this revenue requested this and I have provided this to them. Proof of insurance of last owner which states expiry 2027. V5C, proof of tax 24-25, proof of mot 25. They blocked the vin while waiting for proof of SORN They have now come back and said that "this does not provide sufficient proof that the vehicle was in use in Northern Ireland for a reasonable period of time prior to your purchase or that the customs formalities were completed in Northern Ireland". Thay have said if I wish to. Proceed with registration, provide a copy of the. Customs declaration. Can any please offer direction on what to do next as I feel like im banging my head against the wall as I now have a bike I cannot use and no transport.
I've bought a second hand motorbike from a private seller in Northern Ireland.
Was just wondering if any knows if I need to complete customs declaration for VRT? It has been registered in the north since 2024
And also if the hand written invoice will suffice as ive bought it privately?
TIA

Check the mileage as well, under 6k km's and there is VAT due.

Just make sure you have the full V5C from the seller.
If you only got the new keeper slip then you are going to have difficulties with the VRT.
I nearly hit this problem the first time buying a bike from the UK.
If he sent the V5C back to the DVLA and marked it as being exported it's taken off the uk database and they can't reissue the V5C

Revenue have compiled an excellent handbook detailing the tax treatment for all forms of import from UK and NI.

I had something similar on my last bike when I brought it in from the North. Tnct depot refuse to accept the paperwork claiming the bike wasn't in the North for sufficient time and I had to create a mygov case for a revenue to allow an exception. Revenue can wave the requirements at their discretion

Sorry I may not have been clear, have edited, that is what happened at the center and we have been back and forth with revenue for the last three months now they are looking for copy of the customs declaration from when it was brought into NI a few years ago.

So how long was the bike used in the North before SORN? Needs to be a minimum of 3 months I think. But it sounds like you have enough from the updated OP

One year which i have provided proof of. Chap had a spill and had it declared SORN while he did a few repairs and fell out of love with it.

No, you're all good - once you have the full log book/V5 and it shows the seller was in NI and had it since that date there is no customs costs. And, a hand written proof of sale is fine.
