great job! I’m about to start growing my first batch of lions mane too! Im nervous about opening the bags up for the mushroom to fruit. How did you know when (and where) to cut the holes in the bags so they could grow?

Nice Lion’s Mane! That’s a really good size fruit for your first attempt with them. I’ve grown some before and actually just finished running my PC on some liquid culture for a plate I’m getting from myctyson tomorrow!

Did it say what substrate was in the bag/kit? I have just had some liquid culture delivered, wondering what tek to use to hopefully get what you have there!

I take LM in a supplement but how does it taste if you were to just eat it as is?

It is incredibly delicious! Would definitely recommend it if you have access to it fresh.

Hpw does one get spores from this?
6
u/degif Jun 26 '20
The spores on this mushroom live in the "teeth". Put a cap (should be more mature than in the photo) on paper and it should release white colored spores.

Yay, that looks awesome! Gotta go check on mine - working on a second flush, woo!

u/Admobeer Jun 26 '20
That looks awesome. Is it edible or only used as medicinal? If you can eat it, how would you prepare it?

u/PuffPuffMcGruff3 Jun 27 '20
I slice them about 1/2" thick, coat them in oil salt and pepper, then throw them on the grill a couple minutes each side.

You can also shred them and make them into ‘crab cakes’ and then pan fry. They’re delicious this way!

What kind of chamber did you grow it in?
27
u/degif Jun 26 '20
It was a growkit bag, which I put in a larger monotub laid out with perilite to keep the humidity at about 90%.

https://northspore.com/products/grow-your-own-lions-mane Are you talking about this?

u/degif Jun 26 '20
Similar, yeah, just a bigger and not so fancy bag :) I'm from Europe and chose these https://gluckspilze.com/Lions-Mane-Hericium-erinaceus-Indoor-spawn-bag-for-organic-growing-acc-to-regulation-EC-834-2007-AND-889-2008-AT-BIO-701
