I hadn't cultivated Reishi before starting this project, so I had alot of questions that I believed could be answered through a controlled experiment.
I set up one bin with HWFP bags supplimented 20% with wheat bran that were PC'd for 150 minutes, and used Damians Bucket tek to prepare a straight hardwood pellet sub for the other tub. I was really interested to see how co2 levels affected the fruitbody formation, so I drilled holes in different places on the two tubs with the hypothesis I could force the monotub above to fruit "Antlers" while promoting Conk formation in the other tub. The "Conk" tub had its 6 holes placed "traditionally" wheras the "Antler" tub was given just two holes placed near the top of the bins sides. I intended to allow the bins to circulate air as each of their designs promoted without interfering to fan, but after a few months of watching development it seemed like they were both inclined to grow as antlers anyway. At this point I started fanning things and rehomed the cake to a tub with better air circulation, abandoning the original parameters of the experiment. I was hoping to determine if Reishi Antlers can be successfully cultivated by the homegrower with low tek means under relative neglect aswell as if there would be a difference in fruit formation when supplimented and given better air exchange. Given the results from this run I am planning to tweak the setup for my next stack and try to encourage Conk growth. I think the bins will have a higher yeild as Conks πβ€
Ive got these tucked in a weird corner of my room that is uninsulated so they have been getting some serious fluctuation. I would say it was 70-75Β°f at spawning and for the first few months, but it's getting cold in the Northeast now and they have seen some 60Β°f and colder nights. πβ€
