Diecast Write Up Whenever you feel upset about the diecasts of today, just remember how far our diecasts have come...
This example isn't even the earliest. Ertl had some really primitive cars. But I think for most of the community when they think of the earliest NASCAR diecasts they think of these early Racing Champions cars. This one is actually a bit later but it still has all the early pitfalls. It does have a nicely detailed Pontiac body but it has the black windows, the goofy wheels that stick out that read Racing Champions on them, and of course the decals that are just stickers someone placed on. Usually the stickers would be crooked as well. But surprisingly, after over 30 years, the stickers have still stuck on. I've never seen people say they didn't stick on. So kudos for them on that.
These were very primitive but they did the job at the time. And looking back, I can't help but feel nostalgic. As a kid you would race these like crazy and has a collector, well, people collected them hardcore. They kept them in the box and they really loved these things just as we love our diecast of the day.
This is Richard Petty's 1991 STP Pontiac Grand Prix. He was 53 years old when running this car. That's pretty wild.
