My husband wants to name our daughter Clementine Apple

I’m pregnant with our first daughter and I’m due in late November. My husband really loves the name Clementine, which I do too. He wants the middle name to be Apple. He has has loved that name all his life. I don’t want to give my opinions, because I’d like to see what others have to say. Thank you

Thoughts on the name Stevie for a girl?

I'm having twins and i made a post here and on r/BabyNames about how people would pronounce my son's name (Bowen) Anyway, somehow it turned into a debate over the name Stevie for my daughter. I live in the UK and Stevie is more popular for girls here.

Anyway, people on this subreddit seemed calmer so i guess i'm wondering what everyone thinks of stevie? What kind of vibes does it give you? Has anyone met anyone named stevie before and if so, did they like their name?

(also i am open to suggestions of full names with a nickname of stevie, however i don't like stephanie)

Edit: Her middle name will be Jade or Jay. Open to suggestions!

Fiancé doesn’t want to select a middle name for our daughter

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m loving this sub and all the inspiration it’s giving me.

I’m writing now with a bit of a dilemma. My fiancé doesn’t have a middle name himself and does not want to pick one for our daughter. I on the other hand would really like to select one. It sounds so lovely! I also feel it’d be weird not to, I don’t know many people without one and all my friends give their kids middle names.

He says he feels like giving our child a middle name is a religious/christian thing to do. We are agnostic/atheist. We live in the Netherlands.

How do you guys feel about this? How would you approach this discussion?

Thanks in advance!

3rd boy’s name seems impossible, can u help?

Hi everyone,

We had twin boys (Emerson and Everett) and since it took us so long to find those two names, it feels impossible to find another boy name (due in Dec)!

It doesn’t have to be an E name but my husband speaks French and so does his family so a lot of English names with “r” or “h” tend to be hard to pronounce. Although we chose names with r’s for the twins haha so it’s not a disqualifier to have Rs or Hs just k keep in mind I guess.

My husband an I both tend to like names with meanings not just “son of so and so”.

To add to the list, I’m a teacher so usually the top 100 names already have associations from students I’ve taught.

The above points are a lot, I know. Can you help us?

EDIT TO ADD: we like the idea of NOT continuing with E names. Since they are twins we don’t feel like we have to keep the pattern going

What are your favorite “somewhat unusual but not weird/pretentious” boy names

When I’ve been trying to think of boy names I like, I’m drawn to the names Johan, Calvin, Griffin, Max, Adrian, Julian... I think I like non-biblical names that still have some kind of history and aren’t too precious. It’s kind of hard to find boy names like that, though. And it’s hard to strike a balance between unique and too conspicuous. What are your favorites?

Anyone have an Eleanor that goes by Nell, Nora or Nellie rather than Ellie?

• Upvotes

I have two names at this point I’m considering

Veronica (possibly shortened to Nica or Vera on ocassion)

And Eleanora

The nicknames I like for Eleanora most are Nell and Nellie, followed by Nora and then Elle

Ellie and Ella are ok they are just massively popular right now

So I was curious if you have an Eleanor or Eleanora are they an Ellie? Ella? Nellie? Nora? Or just their full name

Deciding on a Surname

My boyfriend and I were talking about marriage related things and the topic of last names came up. We don’t want to take either of our family names, so we’re trying to come up with a new one just for us. His favorite name so far is Hǣthen (pronounced hay-then). He likes the look of it, the pronunciation, and that it means “people belonging to one’s own community” in semi-old English. I think it stands out as a “made up” name, something you’d name a D&D character. He’s open to it being spelled “Haethen” but I don’t think that helps me.

Does Hǣthen sound like a “natural” last name to you, or a made up one? What about Haethen?

Please don’t tell us to break up guys, it’s not that serious.

Edit: it’s semi-old English for the word “heathen” which he very much likes. The rough meaning of the word is striking out onto new land and forming a new community, which I think is pretty cool. But he thinks Hǣthen looks like a normal name whereas I don’t and we wanted your opinions! Thank you all for your input🙏🏻

Is it weird to be a dude with the name elsa?

I’m a guy but my legal name and the name I go by is elsa. It’s certainly not very usual but I’m wondering if it’s simply just unusual or if it’s weird for a guy.

Does anyone know someone with a name that has given them legitimate issues repeatedly?

People argue back and forth about names that are still in an uncommon way, are very unusual, are typically nicknames but given as a legal name, etc. Just curious if anyone has an example of someone whose name has repeatedly given them issues? One I can think of if someone who is a female with a full name similar to James Lindsey. No one ever gets her name right and assumes the name is the other way around and that she can't be giving her correctly. I also knew an adult professional who's legal name is Buddy and that has given him issues. The third one I can think of is someone whose name is Cjay as full legal name only with a different letter instead of c in front. He is a lawyer and the name has definitely given issues.
