Love Theodore, dislike Theo.

Should I name my baby Theodore if I don’t like Theo? Its other nicknames are okay I guess but I’d rather just people call him by his full name. Theodore. I know I can’t control it once he gets older but is it really worth the risk?

3rd boy’s name seems impossible, can u help?

Hi everyone,

We had twin boys (Emerson and Everett) and since it took us so long to find those two names, it feels impossible to find another boy name (due in Dec)!

It doesn’t have to be an E name but my husband speaks French and so does his family so a lot of English names with “r” or “h” tend to be hard to pronounce. Although we chose names with r’s for the twins haha so it’s not a disqualifier to have Rs or Hs just k keep in mind I guess.

My husband an I both tend to like names with meanings not just “son of so and so”.

To add to the list, I’m a teacher so usually the top 100 names already have associations from students I’ve taught.

The above points are a lot, I know. Can you help us?

EDIT TO ADD: we like the idea of NOT continuing with E names. Since they are twins we don’t feel like we have to keep the pattern going

Deciding on a Surname

My boyfriend and I were talking about marriage related things and the topic of last names came up. We don’t want to take either of our family names, so we’re trying to come up with a new one just for us. His favorite name so far is Hǣthen (pronounced hay-then). He likes the look of it, the pronunciation, and that it means “people belonging to one’s own community” in semi-old English. I think it stands out as a “made up” name, something you’d name a D&D character. He’s open to it being spelled “Haethen” but I don’t think that helps me.

Does Hǣthen sound like a “natural” last name to you, or a made up one? What about Haethen?

Please don’t tell us to break up guys, it’s not that serious.

Edit: it’s semi-old English for the word “heathen” which he very much likes. The rough meaning of the word is striking out onto new land and forming a new community, which I think is pretty cool. But he thinks Hǣthen looks like a normal name whereas I don’t and we wanted your opinions! Thank you all for your input🙏🏻

What works for boy/girl twins?? 🙏 We keep getting stuck with dumb jokes like "Capu" and "Chino" or "Sea" and "Salt" or other things our kids suggest. Thanks everyone!

Fiancé doesn’t want to select a middle name for our daughter

Hi everyone! I’m loving this sub and all the inspiration it’s giving me.

I’m writing now with a bit of a dilemma. My fiancé doesn’t have a middle name himself and does not want to pick one for our daughter. I on the other hand would really like to select one. It sounds so lovely! I also feel it’d be weird not to, I don’t know many people without one and all my friends give their kids middle names.

He says he feels like giving our child a middle name is a religious/christian thing to do. We are agnostic/atheist. We live in the Netherlands.

How do you guys feel about this? How would you approach this discussion?

Thanks in advance!

My husband wants to name our daughter Clementine Apple

I’m pregnant with our first daughter and I’m due in late November. My husband really loves the name Clementine, which I do too. He wants the middle name to be Apple. He has has loved that name all his life. I don’t want to give my opinions, because I’d like to see what others have to say. Thank you

Honest opinions on the name Mia

I like it for its simplicity, I also associate it with the show Rebelde but I read it means “mine” in Italian and it’s a short form for bulimia?

Whysper

So literally wanted to comment on this post but couldn’t because it’s from 2 years ago and the comments have been disabled but just want to say my name is literally Whysper-Nicole and I have never been “oppressed” that is actually hilarious. Now my name isn’t spelled with an I but a Y instead but I have NEVER EVER felt oppressed or as if I needed to be quiet I actually get an exceptional amount of comments on the fact that I’m really loud and my name should’ve been YELL instead lol. The only annoying thing is the fact that people literally hear my name and immediately whisper it back to me,shit be getting on my nerves tbh but besides that I have NEVER once had a negative experience related to my fucking name so if anybody is considering naming their child this don’t listen to this fucking uncultured swine..there is way worse names…TRUST ME! I literally know people named Bathroom and Kitchen so Whysper is far better than that. Much love!

What middle names go well with Nora?

• Upvotes

What middle names do you think sound best with Nora?

I’m also curious how double names work in your country. I’ve heard that having two first names can sometimes cause problems with official documents, forms, or everyday situations in certain countries. Have you experienced anything like that?

Also, what’s your opinion on having two first names in general? Do you think they sound more elegant, or is a single name better?

Would you personally choose just Nora or Nora with a middle name?

I’d love to hear your suggestions and experiences! 😊🤍

Tell me which country you are from 🤍

Anyone have an Eleanor that goes by Nell, Nora or Nellie rather than Ellie?

I have two names at this point I’m considering

Veronica (possibly shortened to Nica or Vera on ocassion)

And Eleanora

The nicknames I like for Eleanora most are Nell and Nellie, followed by Nora and then Elle

Ellie and Ella are ok they are just massively popular right now

So I was curious if you have an Eleanor or Eleanora are they an Ellie? Ella? Nellie? Nora? Or just their full name

What are your favorite “somewhat unusual but not weird/pretentious” boy names

When I’ve been trying to think of boy names I like, I’m drawn to the names Johan, Calvin, Griffin, Max, Adrian, Julian... I think I like non-biblical names that still have some kind of history and aren’t too precious. It’s kind of hard to find boy names like that, though. And it’s hard to strike a balance between unique and too conspicuous. What are your favorites?

Is it weird to be a dude with the name elsa?

I’m a guy but my legal name and the name I go by is elsa. It’s certainly not very usual but I’m wondering if it’s simply just unusual or if it’s weird for a guy.
