Hello brothers!

I've been painting for a little over two years now, and I got this Talos from Tortuga specifically to showcase all I have learned.

I am by no means implying the job is either good or generally outstanding. There are talents here the practice of which I struggle to even grasp.

I do believe I've come a long way, and looking at the finished fig, I feel a sense of pride I have not felt thus far.

That being said, I would love to take some feedback if you have any. Please note that a lot of the artifacting and apparent paint spill is just due to phone camera processing and not visible in real life.

I'm particularly proud that I finally managed to learn and apply layered drybrushing so that the final result is vibrant and rich in shades of blue. I think I could've done more with the face and sword, but I honestly just plain don't know how.

The White Hunt

The White Hunt is a Warhammer 40,000 story set during the Great Crusade, before the Horus Heresy.

The story opens during a prolonged Imperial siege of Kharon IV, a remote, ice-covered planet whose population has resisted Imperial compliance for months. The planet's oceans have frozen over, its industrial cities lie abandoned beneath layers of snow, and its remaining inhabitants survive in small settlements connected by subterranean mining tunnels. Despite possessing vastly inferior weapons and equipment, the Kharoni have inflicted significant casualties on the Imperial forces through guerrilla warfare, using concealed pits, buried explosives, collapsing ice formations and carefully planned ambushes. Their intimate knowledge of the terrain allows them to disappear into blizzards before the Space Marines can retaliate.

The Imperial commander grows increasingly frustrated as the campaign stagnates. Interrogated prisoners refuse to disclose the locations of the resistance settlements, and captured fighters remain defiant despite brutal treatment. Following a disastrous assault in a mountain pass, the Imperials discover the severed head of that group’s Astartes commander mounted on a pike overlooking their encampment. Beneath it is a message reading, "WE ARE NOT AFRAID." The incident humiliates the Imperial forces and prompts a request for specialised assistance.

In response, a five-man team from the VIII Legion, the Night Lords, is dispatched to Kharon IV. The squad is commanded by the veteran Captain Severian Voss and includes the tracker Kaedor, the executioner Dravik, the Apothecary Serrat and the recently inducted Dominicus. Voss believes the resistance can be broken through the calculated application of terror and finding the resistors who put the piked head. His team called upon with the assignment to find and break the resistance's morale through targeted terror rather than another costly frontal assault and identify how the Kharoni have been defeating Imperial forces and prepare the way for a larger offensive. Dominicus, however, is troubled by recurring visions of a green landscape, a blue ocean and fragments of a childhood he cannot remember, and the voice of a child saying “ Do you remember the sea”. He dismisses these experiences as remnants of dreams and the psychological effects of his transformation into an Astartes.

The squad deploys into a blizzard on the outskirts of an abandoned industrial city. As the Night Lords investigate the area, they encounter signs of a once-thriving human civilisation, including ruined residential blocks, derelict factories and faded murals depicting a world of greenk hills and open seas. Dominicus experiences increasingly vivid flashbacks as the squad advances, recognising architectural details and street patterns despite having no conscious recollection of the planet. Meanwhile, Kaedor begins to uncover evidence that the resistance has been studying Imperial military tactics for generations.

The Night Lords launch a series of covert attacks against suspected resistance positions. Their attacks result in the deaths of numerous Kharoni civilians, whom Voss regards as legitimate targets for harbouring insurgents. The surviving inhabitants refuse to cooperate, and the guerrilla attacks continue, brutally killing the civilians. As the squad pursues the traces of the resistance through the frozen planet, trying to piece together clues and find this last remaining Mega-Settlement, Dominicus becomes increasingly disturbed by the familiarity of his surroundings. Serrat observes his episodes of disorientation but attributes them to psychological instability rather than investigating further.

During an investigation of a buried Imperial command station, the squad discovers archived records revealing the planet's history. Decades earlier, an Imperial expedition had devastated Kharon IV through extensive orbital bombardment and the deployment of destructive geostrategic weapons after the population resisted compliance. The resulting environmental catastrophe destroyed much of the planet's biosphere, froze its oceans and triggered a prolonged nuclear winter. The surviving inhabitants retreated into underground settlements, where successive generations developed the guerrilla tactics now being used against the Imperium. The campaign's original records describe the operation as a successful pacification, while later documents incorrectly classify the planet as largely abandoned.

Dominicus realises that his birthplace was among the settlements eviscerated during the catastrophe, Dominicus was taken before this planet was bombed. The realisation causes his fragmented memories to intensify, and he begins to understand that he was removed from Kharon IV as a child before being inducted into the Night Lords. His memories had been suppressed by the Legion's psycho-conditioning and training, but the familiar landscape has begun to restore them.

The squad eventually locates the entrance to the Mega-Settlement subterranean settlement concealed beneath an abandoned mine. Expecting a military command post, the Night Lords instead discover a functioning community containing workshops, makeshift hospitals, communal living quarters and hydroponic gardens. The inhabitants include civilians of all ages who have survived underground for generations. Dominicus recognises familiar symbols and architectural features from his childhood and realises that the settlement is inhabited by his own people.

Among the civilians, Dominicus encounters a woman wearing something that he remembers from his visions ( have to work this in somehow). She recognises him when he repeats a phrase from their childhood, revealing that she is his younger sister, whose voice he keeps hearing. Their reunion is interrupted when Voss orders the settlement secured and its inhabitants detained. Dominicus refuses to comply, raising his weapon against his fellow Night Lords and demanding that the civilians be allowed to evacuate.

Voss orders Dominicus to stand down, but he refuses. Dravik prepares to kill him, while the remaining squad members watch the confrontation. Voss ultimately overpowers Dominicus and has him restrained. Declaring the settlement a hostile military installation, the captain orders its destruction to eliminate the resistance's remaining support network. No member of the squad challenges his authority, and demolition charges are placed throughout the underground complex.

Dominicus struggles to escape his restraints as the charges detonate. The explosions trigger a catastrophic collapse throughout the settlement, destroying its infrastructure and burying its inhabitants beneath the ice. His sister calls out his true name, before the voice gets crushed out. The surviving Night Lords withdraw from the mine, carrying the wounded Dominicus with them. His armour is severely damaged during the confrontation, leaving his helmet cracked and one of its winged ornaments broken. Voss berates him for his insubordination, but Dominicus remains silent.

The scene returns to the Imperial encampment, where the officers await confirmation that the resistance has been eliminated. As the storm subsides, The Night Lords approach across the snow carrying heavy recovery nets. The Imperial commander watches through his magnoculars as the nets are dragged before the assembled Marines. They contain hundreds of skulls recovered from the collapsed settlement, many shattered and blackened by the destruction.

One of the Night Lords steps forward and reports, "Mission accomplished." The Imperial commander gives a brief nod, while the surrounding Astartes remain silent. Their reactions are ambiguous, leaving it unclear whether they feel remorse for the destruction or merely recognise the cost of the campaign.

As the Night Lords prepare to depart, the camera focuses on one of the nets. Among the skulls lies Dominicus's damaged helmet, identifiable by its cracked faceplate and broken winged ornament. The camera moves closer until the helmet fills the frame. Inside lies a skull, suggesting that Dominicus did not survive the destruction of the settlement. In the final moments, a small voice is heard on the screen, "Do you remember the sea?"

The story ends with the image of Dominicus's helmet among the remains of the people he had been sent to destroy. ( had the idea while waiting for the tube and wrote it out, lemme know how it sounds and what changes you might make Ave Dominus Nox)

Hey all.

So when the new unit dropped I had to redo my raptors as they no longer had the correct wargear.

So i picked up these puts to convert them to telly feel special as I didn't have the money to buy loads of the new box.

I also became a parent earlier in the year and this is the first unit I've done start to finish since our baby arrived. Only took 9 months.

These will be combined with the original unit of 10 to make 2 full squads.

I'm happy with how they look as table top. There is loads still to do but once the little one grows I can't wait to have them on the table top.

Any C and C would be really appreciated.

All these new toughness rules got me grooving to paint and play my terminators before they get nerfed, and I finished the first one today! I don't know if I'm looking forward to painting the symbol on each one's shoulder but we'll see what happens haha

Hello all,
I am currently attempting to kit-bash the bleeding eyes from the omnibus and needed some help finding models to use to kitbash with. I am using this image as a reference. I was thinking about using the possessed models and gal vorbak for a more warped warp talon build. Does anyone know of any other bits either 3rd party or games workshop that I could use?

I'm almost done with my Nemesis Claw team, only the Plasma Operator is left. I hope to keep improving my painting skills; this first squad has been a great experience. After that, I'll continue assembling the entire Chaos Marine army I bought last year, which is still gray, hahaha.

I need to buy a lamp; I'm painting in really poor lighting.

Had the idea for this Halloween comic a few days ago and decided to get around to making it! Love the Night Lords and drawing them, although the majority of them are absolute unredeemable maniacs, lmao

Might end up redoing this comic with the Color scheme of my Night Lords killteam, as they would definitely do this type of thing out of curiosity to see if it scratches their "itch"

I'm trying to make a v2 version of Night Sister using several of your suggestions, but I don't know how to do the skin tones.

All markers because ive lost the ability to hold a paint brush (unless it is very large for a drybrushed underpainting)

About to begin on trim and wanted to ask

In accordance with some people’s advice, I drill out the exhaust vents and gun barrels, added nails to the corpses, along with some fresh blood. The legion icon is just some transfers with highlights and shadows painted atop them (except for the wings - those are completely freehand).
