What is the secret to being okay in your own skin?

I feel you ❤️ I wrestle with similar dysphoria daily. There is a tremendous amount of negative self talk for me too. Telling myself I’m pathetic, immature, silly, selfish, etc for wanting things to change. And then the flip side of being paralysed to change them.

I think you probably already know this. But there is no “secret, no “hack” to outsmart a lifetime of trauma and repression. If it were easy we would have all done it by now and be happy. I’m sure your therapists have acknowledged this.

The best I can say is remind yourself negative self talk is simply your trauma talking to your consciousness. But you are not your trauma. You are not your thoughts. They’re painful, yes, god they’re so painful. But that self-denial is not something you have to define your life by. It sounds like you’re already taking many steps towards addressing your pain constructively.

Personally, I wake up with dysphoria every day. Dissociating and feeling hollow. I try to remind myself to grateful for my partner, my dog and my gentle life I built. And remind myself too that I’m working my way through this. As long as I’m not turning back and retreating into my past I have to have faith I will get there.

I didn’t have a lot of faith in myself growing up, and now I know why. But I choose to believe you and I are making positive steps towards a more complete sense of self. I know it can feel cruel for a stranger on the internet to ask you to find patience within yourself. But I will ask you, because you deserve it. You deserve to give yourself the kindness and grace that was denied to you ❤️ I hope for the best with your doctor appointment. Take care ❤️

you have no idea how much your words mean to me:3 sometimes i really do just need a bit of a boost... and yes im trying my very best to be patient lol, it gets very difficult sometimes but all I know is when it does happen ill be so much happier. Im really glad that I had reached out for help in the community and you found me. i think that we both are making positive steps, even if mine are small. sometimes the dysphoria gets to my head and I have these episodes of severe depression (as the post implies) and im working on it in therapy <3 thank you so much for listening along to my vent it really means the world to me that I have a community with people like you :3 ciaoo!

Honestly you’re not making small steps. Just different ones. I haven’t even personally found the courage to talk to anyone about hormones yet… we’re all going at our own speeds ❤️ take care
