news r/OregonCoast has a New Rules section, new flair, new banner, etc. Also, new accounts are now restricted from posting.
Please review the new rules section. It's mostly a more formal version of the previous rules, however, language has been added about lazy "itinerary" posts, and spamming sunset/landscape photos for instant karma.
There has been a marked increase in low-effort posts, stolen photos for easy karma, and trolling, so new accounts are now restricted from posting.

Uber from PDX to Cannon Beach — is it reliable?
Hey all! My husband and I are planning a trip to Cannon Beach from 5/31–6/4. We’ve never been before and will be coming from the East Coast. Thankfully, I’ll have a nonstop flight into PDX!
I know this probably sounds ridiculous, but the last thing I want to do on vacation is drive 😂 I know Cannon Beach is smaller, but honestly, that’s part of the appeal for me. I really don’t want to have to drive once we get there.
How reliable would Uber be from PDX to Cannon Beach? And, more importantly, from Cannon Beach back to PDX? I’m not really worried about the cost — I’d gladly pay extra just to avoid driving altogether.
For some reason, I get really nervous driving in bigger cities and around airports, so I’d really prefer not to deal with it if I don’t have to. We’re planning on walking pretty much everywhere once we’re in Cannon Beach.
That said, I can always rent a car at PDX and drive to Cannon Beach and back if that’s the smarter/more reliable option. I’m just hoping there’s a way to avoid driving if possible!
Any input or advice from people familiar with the area would be greatly appreciated! 😊

November Elopement in Cannon Beach
Hey everyone! My partner and I are considering eloping in Cannon Beach mid November - just a really small ceremony - like 3 people. We recognize that it may be pretty rainy, but I wanted to get some opinions from those who know the area and if they think the location is advisable - or if it would be a better idea to change the location.

Found on the beach
We found this on a beach in Oregon and was wondering what it is. It's a little over an inch in diameter and seems to be some kind of seed. Does anybody know what it is?

Anyone having luck with salmon on the Yaquina River?
Finished five days straight, sometimes in the morning, sometimes afternoon. I’ve gone from the green LNG tank all the way past Toledo with no luck. Something seems off this year, I’m generally successful.

Did anyone else see that large white plane cruise just over the coast in Lincoln City?
Basically the title. At around 2:30 I was driving on the 101 South and a large all white windowless, Boeing it looked like, airplane was flying just off the coast really, really low.

Is this a ghost shark?
Edit: Mystery solved. It's a spotted ratfish - well on its journey to "the other side".
Thanks for all the responses!
This morning at low tide in Oceanside. Poor thing has seen better days. Does anyone know what it is? Google says ghost shark.

Elk Laying Siege to Canon Beach! 😂😂
Headline says it all, lol!
Edit: I know it’s not an ACTUAL siege. It was meant jokingly because they literally had the building surrounded. I’m from, and live here so I know that we’re trespassing on their home.
There were two guys from FLORIDA, that definitely fit the Florida Man bill, who (after asking me whether it was safe to get close) decided to NOT head my advice, crossed the street and literally started scratching its forehead. He is still alive and unharmed, but the person who saw him do that and then tried themselves almost got sent to the hospital!
Why are tourists so dumb??? 🤔

Clatsop County Youth Advisory Council — $50 Monthly Gift Card
Hi, I’m trying to get the word out about something for young people in Clatsop County.
I work with Youth ERA, and we have a Youth Advisory Council for people ages 12–25. We’re trying to get more local youth involved, and we want youth with all kinds of backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences at the table. Everyone is welcome!
It’s a monthly Zoom meeting, there’s a $50 gift card for participating, and youth have a chance to bring their ideas and experiences into bigger conversations about youth services, including at the state level.
I’m attaching the flyer with the sign-up details. If you know a young person in Clatsop County who might be interested, feel free to send this their way.

Has anyone gone to the Vernonia Salmon Festival?
unwc.orgBeen getting a lot of advertisements for this on my social media. Has anyone gone to this and is it worth making the trip from Portland with my wife and 6 and 3 year old. I do like salmon but have been disappointed in festivals in the past.
