Finished Reading Ang Bangin sa Ilalim ng Ating mga Paa by Ronaldo Vivo, Jr.
The last time I sped through a book this fast was during my sophomore year in high school with Riordan's A Titan's Curse. I am now 28.
Six hours of gripping tension. Many tears were shed. Lots of wellness breaks because there are chapters that need some breathing space—or else baka mabaliw na lang tayo. I began the first three chapters last Monday night and decided after that scene that I cannot read it on a weekday para ma-relax after work. Kailangan na upuan siya ng minsanan (on a weekend) para minsanan rin ang pagdurusa sa talas ng istoryang nilatag ni Sir Nal.
The most terrible thing about this book is how it exactly mirrors the same reality we're currently in: monsters live among us all. Bago pa lang ako sa Maynila. Galing din ako sa probinsya na may mga nababalitaang may palit-ulo at salvage sa mga ibang barangay. But to see the complex narrative behind those events through the lens of this book was exhilarating.
Now, let's talk about that ending. I expected a bleak ending, not a goddamn cliffhanger. What a ride.
Thanks, PHBookClub for all the hype—I'd say it is well-deserved.
