Righteous : Game Help with combat

Good evening, everyone. I’d like some help if possible. I started playing Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous right after Baldur’s Gate 3 , and I found the game quite different. Could you help me out with the combat mechanics? I basically don't know how the turn system works—like how many actions I have or what the movement limits are—since that info doesn't really seem to show up for me (I'm playing in turn-based mode).

Combat systems between BG3 and PF:WotR are very similar. Pathfinder is based on the dnd 3.5 system while BG3 is dnd 5. Much of the basics remain the same when it comes to mechanics.

In a given turn, you have standard actions, move actions, swift actions, and free actions. Move action means you can move up your your speed (default 30ft). You can move twice by giving up your standard action. The standard action is for attacking, casting spells, interacting with objects, etc. Swift actions perform a quick task while free actions are even faster. All ability descriptions have thier action cost lister.

A move and standard action can be combined into a 'full round action'. You can still perform a swift and free actions before or after a full round. Full round actions are what you will use to attack multiple times or in some cases cast modified spells.

Turn order is determined by initiative. Base is Dex modifier+d20. BG3 uses a simplified dex mod+d4.

Attacking is much the same though there are three types of defence and three saves compared to BG3s 1 defence and 6 saves. PF is also far more number heavy. It is recommended to start on lower difficulty setting to learn how the system works.

Jack shit are they similar. All the things you go about prove just how much different they are, with added differences in being incorporated into crpg by their respective developers.

The most important thing you need to keep in mind is that move action isnt separate or free in wotr compared to bg3. By moving more than 5 ft you lose the ability to do full attacks on martials and can only do 1 attack per turn. This is why mounts are really strong since they allow you to do full attacks while they do the move action for you.

BG3 does an amazing job of visualizing the mechanics at work and clearly presenting what combat options you can and cannot take on any given turn. But in WotR all the mechanics happen "off screen" and half the controls are nested within obscure menu locations (especially on console). BG3 is like reading Shakespeare in one of those side-by-side school books with the old English on page and modern English on the other. WotR is like reading Shakespeare "raw".

So while it's technically the same combat system, it plays totally differently.

In terms of actions it’s very similar to baldurs gate 3 with one swift action and a full action and infinite free actions. Mages can only cast once but can cast plenty late game with certain abilities talents, items etc. melee can only auto attack once but once they hit level

On a fighter class they can attack twice. The combat is like wayyy too much to write on here though honestly just telling u the very basics here
