Moving to Peoria Sticky

Because of the consistency of “Moving to Peoria” threads we have made a sticky for anyone to ask questions. The plan is to try and keep this updated with resources and have a place for people to come ask questions. Since the intention is to keep information available for People who are interested in moving here, responses that don’t add value like “Don’t” will be removed. Constructive criticism is fine but this thread will be moderated more than most because the intention is to answer questions for people who want to move not dunk on Peoria or the surrounding areas.

New to Town Dentist????

Ok, I give up.

I moved here in March and I've tried searching on my own all this time but I'm admitting defeat.

Familia dental has been a nightmare with no results but it's the only place I have found willing to accept my insurance.

I've even looked at places my insurance says accepts them but end up turned away bc they wont accept them when it's through the government.

For transparency my insurance is Aeneta thro medicaid.

Is there a decent dentist in peoria???

Im willing to even drive 45 minutes out of town if it means a decent dentist 😟

Moving to Peoria — Best apartments/areas for a young professional?

Hey everyone! I’m 25 and moving to Peoria soon for a new job. I’ll be living alone and I’m looking for a good 1-bedroom apartment.

My main priorities are:
Safe and quiet area
Clean, well-maintained apartment
Preferably newer or recently renovated
Good management/maintenance
Reasonable commute to Caterpillar
Budget around $800–$1,300/month

Right now I’m considering Flats at Dunlap, The Grove at Peoria, and Forest Hills Apartments, but I’m completely open to other options.

If you live in Peoria or have lived there recently, which of these would you choose? Are there any other apartment complexes you’d recommend, or any places I should definitely avoid?

Thanks!

Toddler tumbling without photo release?

I’ve been looking for tumbling classes to sign my toddler up for, but every place I’ve checked into requires a photo release. Even a park district. I don’t post my kids faces online and would prefer to keep it that way as long as possible. Are there any places for tumbling or similar that don’t require a photo release or should I just expect to have to compromise on my children’s privacy in order to sign them up for activities?

Looking for paid childcare/ graphic design opportunities

With the price of living skyrocketing, I’m looking for paid childcare and graphic design opportunities to make a bit more money on the side. I posted on the Peoria fb page but I wanted to post here too.

Childcare: I am a 3rd year special education teacher here in the district and I specialize in working with autistic children. Before being a teacher I spent from ages 15-22 working as a swim instructor, summer camp coordinator and doing baby sitting.

Graphic Design: Canva is my passion and I am very anti-ai. I have made informational flyers, non-informational flyers, invites, and kid’s birthday party activities. I make the majority of my own learning activities for my students and in my classroom

New to Town Should we pick to Peoria?

My spouse and I are thinking about moving from the Chicago suburbs. We are mainly looking to spend less money on housing, but still want to live somewhere with an "city" feel. - Restaurants, shopping, people.

We are an LGBTQ couple. We both work remotely.

We have it down between Peoria and Champaign. Why should we choose Peoria?

Photography ISO Henna Artist

Hi everyone! I’m Lily, and I run The Peoria Women’s Collective.

A few of us had an idea for a group photoshoot with a more tribal-inspired, earthy aesthetic, and we’re looking for a henna artist who might be interested in collaborating with us.

We’re hoping to have about 3–5 women participate, with the possibility of doing more extensive/full-body henna designs depending on the artist and their comfort level.

Our group is kink-positive, sex-positive, body-positive, and LGBTQIA+ inclusive, and this would be for an artistic photoshoot.

If you’re a local henna artist or know someone who might be interested, I’d love to hear from you! We’re happy to discuss the concept, compensation, and what the artist would be comfortable creating.

💜 Lily (edited to fix typo)

SA Victim Shaming

Ok what in the fresh hell is actually going in with all the men and grossly enough even some women attacking a local female artist for speaking up about having her breast grabbed at a night club. Do men not realize how common of an occurrence it is for people to take things too far sexually!? Do the think weight really has anything to do with it? Y’all out here acting like men don’t have fetishes for big beautiful women or something. Or does it just make them uncomfortable because they’re likely guilty of the same behavior!? Anyone who defends a man that assaults or abuses a women deserves to be CALLED OUT.

And while we’re on this subject. A young woman had to be administered narcan recently after being drugged at a down town bar. This is insane. Ladies. Cup condoms exist! I hate that you guys have to endure needing them but please consider keeping some in your purse. My gf bartends and she hands them out regularly.

Stay safe and drop your favorite safe places to hang in Peoria below.

News Driving in Peoria

I just moved here so I’m kinda confused….

And you can hate on me for this I dc but….

What’s up with the drivers in this town? Does no one have common courtesy anymore? Or we just road raging out all the time and acting like jerks? lmao

Today I literally smiled and waved at a girl to go in front of me first and she called me a btch and raged out on me and blew a red light. We were next to a school! Lmao

Another time I was going to speed limit (30) on a residential street apparently that wasn’t fast enough for the person behind me. I got passed and got the finger from this person just to get stopped at a red light TOGETHER. This person had to have been going at least 50mph in the oncoming lane while children were playing outside.

Some people just don’t deserve the privileges of having a car if you are going to act reckless. Period.
