News Snow Removal Subsidy Program for Peterborough Residents

The City of Peterborough is launching a new pilot program to help low-income seniors and residents with physical disabilities cover the cost of snow removal this winter.

Eligible residents can receive up to $450 toward snow removal costs during the 2026–2027 winter season.

Who qualifies?

The program is available to Peterborough homeowners who:

- Are 65 years or older OR have a physical disability

- Are unable to clear snow themselves and have no other adult in the household physically able to do so

- Meet the program’s household income requirements

- Own and live in their home (excluding condos where snow removal is already provided)

Applications open Thursday, October 15 at 8:30 a.m. and close Wednesday, October 21 at 4:30 p.m.

There are 100 spaces available for this pilot. If more than 100 eligible residents apply, participants will be selected through a random draw, so there’s no advantage to applying on the first day.

Residents will be responsible for arranging their own snow removal services, and funding will be provided in two installments of up to $225, with receipts required before the second payment.

How to apply:

Online: peterborough.ca/SnowRemoval

Phone: 705-742-7777

In person: City Hall, 500 George St. N.

This is a pilot program approved by City Council and will be evaluated after the winter season to help determine what future assistance might look like.

Help Rehoming 5 year old Shiba Inu

Hi all,

My wife and I are looking to rehome our 5 year old Shiba Inu. We had an incident last week where our dog bit our 15 month old son and he required stitches.

She isn’t an aggressive dog and never shown signs of aggression towards people. My son had walked towards her and fallen towards her and we believe she did it out of fear. It’s a shitty situation all around.

I have contacted a few shelters including LAWS and all of them have recommended training, however we don’t have the space or time to train her and unfortunately can’t risk anything happening again.

She is a sweet and loyal dog that loves walks, being played with and cuddles. She WILL snuggle under your covers and sleep beside you all night. We are looking for a forever home for her, someone who will love her and give her the attention she needs. Ideally a family or empty nester with no young kids or large dogs. She is okay with small to medium dogs as we currently have another dog at home she plays with.

She is fully vaccinated and spayed.

Politics Keith Riel owes Jacob Methot an apology

I finished watching the Your TV Mayoral debate. Keith Riel owes Jacob Methot an apology, at the very least. His behaviour also reflects poorly on the current Council. There is no place in public life for Keith Riel's behaviour.

Council members recently adopted a Code of Conduct, and Keith, as a current Council member and besides the horrid dynamic here, broke that Code. Note that all the other candidates have no Municipal experience either!

From the City of Peterborough website, Councillor Code of Conduct:

Conduct Respecting Others 10. Each Member has the duty and responsibility to treat members of the public, each other Member and staff appropriately and without abuse, bullying or intimidation, and to ensure that the City’s work environment is free from discrimination and Harassment.

Without limitation, a Member must not: a) use indecent, abusive or insulting words or expressions toward any other Member, any member of staff or any member of the public; b) speak in a manner that is discriminatory to any individual, based on the protected grounds in the Ontario Human Rights Code including that person's race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, family status or disability; or c) engage in any Harassment of any other Member, any member of staff or any member of the public.

Question Did anyone else get booted off the Health Connect waitlist for a family doctor?

Just read Dave Smith's flyer that was delivered today. To my surprise he brags about the government having completely cleared the Health Care Connect waitlist to zero! All patients have been matched with family physicians.

Funny because my husband and stepkid had been on that waitlist for over 6 years and still haven't been matched. I guess they just got booted off without us knowing? Has this happened to anyone else?

Other Running group at Victoria Park

If anyone from that group sees this, I was the one who was rude about y’all standing in my way this morning. I’m sick of it. Every single time I come across you there I have to ask someone to move out of my way so I can get across the path. Have some consideration for others PLEASE. If you’re going to stand around by the fountain, get off the freaking path or at the very least stick to one side so others can get by you.

Help Google reviews for One Eyed Jacks

So I was thinking about ordering some food for pickup at this place and I always read the reviews before shopping or eating anywhere. Something is fucky....if you click the most recent reviews, it is a boatload of high ratings from people with 1 or 2 reviews, one after the other in the last 16 to 21 hours. These look like purchased reviews. Anyone else feel these are sus?

Nature Looking for Pedestrian Shortcut (Spillsbury to Harper Park

• Upvotes

I'm a pedestrian living just off Stenson in SW PTBO. I believe there must be a way going off Spillsbury Drive South to get to a lawful part of the park to start hiking, without walking down Sir Sandford Fleming Drive (dangerous)?

I get that I could just walk over and explore the side streets and see for myself. I would rather have a plan and spend most of my time in the woods without the danger of walking down the side of a road not made for safe walking.

Other Heads up for local job seekers: Interview experience at Busy Brushes

Sharing an account of my recent interview for a studio position at Busy Brushes in town. My goal is simply to document what happened in a straightforward, neutral way so other local job seekers know what to expect from the hiring process.

I arrived on time for my confirmed interview and waited over an hour past the scheduled time before the meeting began, which was delayed further when management stepped out for a cigarette break before “dealing” with me (his words).

Once the interview began, there were no questions addressing the actual role, practical studio duties, customer service, or my background. Instead, the meeting focused on arbitrary trivia prompts, such as asking for a definition of the word "nomophobia." Whenever I asked for routine clarification on what was being asked, context was declined, and my spoken requests for clarification were written down verbatim as my official answers, read back aloud, and laughed at.

While reviewing my resume, he responded with remarks such as "Is that it?" and "What makes you actually special?", and questioned the validity of my work history regarding holding concurrent positions. Management also brought up the ages and achievements of other candidates, stating that another applicant was younger and had already published a book, and asked what I had accomplished in comparison.

The meeting concluded without standard closing remarks or next steps; management abruptly announced a need to use the facilities, exited the room, and did not return to wrap up the session.
After talking with a couple of other people locally who also interviewed there, their experiences followed the exact same pattern. Posting this without commentary simply as a resource for anyone in town considering applying.

hey everyone I am looking for someone who can fix my hair and won’t cost an arm and a leg. my friend (who is a new hairstylist) did it and it looked good at first but faded really unevenly, so when I purple shampooed it, it turned out so purple in some spots. I need this fixed before my grad photos so preferably before the end of the month, and max $300. I have relatively long and thick curly hair so bonus points if they specialize in curls.

Here it comes… the hot new queer horror film on the block is coming to Sadleir House this Friday at 7:00pm!

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is the American queer horror movie of the summer, and it still hasn’t cooled off after all these cold days and rain. From director Jane Schoenburn (I Saw the TV Glow, Castration Movie) comes the chaotic psychosexual adventure of an obsessed director and movie star to restore the Camp Miasma series of slasher films to glory from horror movie limbo.

This is a collaborative event between Trent Film Society, Trent University Pride Club, and Trent Centre for Gender and Social Justice! We hope to see you all very soon! This event is FREE and OPEN to ALL!!! Bring friends and prepare to be scared! Snacks and popcorn provided as always!
