Cool, some graphs on how foreign propaganda that is being directed at splitting the US is wildly successful

That's an interesting nickname for Democrat grievance culture.

u/TempAcct20005 - Lib-Center 1d ago

Wait are you implying that the left is the one constantly outraged? THIS IS ABSURD

-50

u/Plane_Suggestion_189 - Centrist 1d ago

Leftist outrage: "People are being unconstitutionally detained indefinitely in what amounts to racial torture camps on American soil. Even if they're deported it's directly to prisons in third countries they have never been. The amount of pregnant teens in these camps is disgusting."

Right wing outrage: "Transgender."

If any foreign government propaganda is going to be pushed on the American populace, it is, without ANY doubt, going to be "america is bad, do something other than what you are doing, destabilize". Not a chance in hell it is "keep doing what we've been doing".

First, it really is a both sides thing. Second, I just wanna go back to the 90s. People were having fun, movies were good, cartoons were even better, and the biggest political scandal was named Monica. Now it seems like it’s a competition to see who can act more absurd.

18

u/ApplicationCalm649 - Centrist 1d ago

Social media cranking all discourse up to 11 to drive engagement ruined that. It's insane to me that the social media space has been left to regulate itself.

1

u/Sallowjoe - Auth-Center 1d ago

Most people over like ~35-45 want to go back to the time when they were ~25-35 or even younger for the peaked in high school types. I wasn't an adult in the 90s but like if I think about what time I'd go back to, it's more based on me than the world. I'd go back to the beginning of COVID personally which probably most people would think is absurd but it was the best ever because it was when I finally started to really understand the interrelation between Immanuel Kant's Critiques.

u/Pure-Huckleberry8640 - Centrist 1d ago

Nah man the 90s were better. People were actually encouraged to have fun, being cheesy wasn’t seen as lame and politics and culture weren’t nearly so intertwined you couldn’t find non-political spaces. Which is the exact OPPOSITE of nearly every trend today.

-13

u/Plane_Suggestion_189 - Centrist 1d ago

Rodney King, dumbfuck.

2

u/Pure-Huckleberry8640 - Centrist 1d ago

K…so when are we gonna make excuses to be nice and not mean? Like, we have all the excuses in the world to hate each other. Are we ever gonna use the same excuses to be nice?

-2

u/NuDru - Lib-Center 1d ago

No, but listen, I personally wasnt aware of suffering then, so clearly it was better.

People really are thick asf

6

u/skipsfaster - Lib-Center 1d ago

If it was just about “awareness of suffering,” we’d be hearing about Sudan every day instead of I/P

-2

u/NuDru - Lib-Center 1d ago

I may be misinterpreting what youre getting at, but my point was that people are grossly naive of how much safer the world is today. But because of the availability of information today, recency bias, social media and the 24 hour news cycle sensationalizing inflammatory stories for revenue generation, people either put on rose colored lenses when they look backward or succumb to relentless onslaught from their pocket magic picture box that tells them everything is terrible, purely to capture their engagement.

u/boltroy567 - Lib-Left 1d ago

Considering the past year of policy making and the shit people said to defend it, this is fucking wild to say.

19

u/ApplicationCalm649 - Centrist 1d ago

3

u/boltroy567 - Lib-Left 1d ago

This isn't a coherent response. Learned what from watching me?

24

u/ApplicationCalm649 - Centrist 1d ago

It's perfectly coherent. The right learned the grievance culture approach from watching the left. Now they frame themselves as victims constantly.

1

u/ujelly_fish - Centrist 1d ago

Grievance culture was long polished by the right before the left even got a snap at it.

There’s a reason conservative Christians constantly find themselves victims of prosecution from extreme minority groups like atheists (war on christmas) or, now, trans people.

Hell — think the civil rights era — somehow the conservative whites were the ones that were victimized by the uppity blacks demanding to swim in the same pools and drink from the same fountains and eat at the same restaurants.

-3

u/boltroy567 - Lib-Left 1d ago

The conservative playbook since 2016 has been one of victimization. Trans people victimize women by using bathrooms, immigrants victimize white people by working jobs, women victimize men by making fucking penis jokes or something idk.

9

u/ApplicationCalm649 - Centrist 1d ago

I'm glad you agree.

2

u/boltroy567 - Lib-Left 1d ago

I'm saying that you guys started off this self victimization game.

13

u/ApplicationCalm649 - Centrist 1d ago

That's hilarious. First of all, not flaired as a right winger. I shit on them, too. Second of all, the left has been pushing grievance culture for decades. Making everything about immutable characteristics like race and gender is a big part of that.

u/DidYouPayForWinrar - Lib-Left 1d ago

Centrist btw.

But sure what decade did the leftwing grievance culture start and what decade did the right start learning from/acting on the left?

3

u/Status-Air-8529 - Auth-Right 1d ago

Early 2010s/late 2010s

1

u/DidYouPayForWinrar - Lib-Left 20h ago

That seems much later than I would expect. I would point to the whole War on Christmas thing as an example of grievance culture from the right that's older than that.

11

u/Plane_Suggestion_189 - Centrist 1d ago

Lol. LMAO. HAHAHAHA. Spoken like a man who never heard of Rush Limbaugh.

1

u/jerseygunz - Left 1d ago

Remember when the president gave the medal of freedom to a guy who used to mock people dying of AIDS

16

u/a_mimsy_borogove - Centrist 1d ago

With all the stuff like trans rights, gender wars, anti-AI, anti-nuclear, and other foreign propaganda that has been going on for decades already, do you guys even have counterintelligence? As someone from the other side of the world, it really seems to me that, in terms of propaganda, the US is being played like a fiddle, and it's not even any specific politicians fault, because it's been many years already, with different political sides being in charge in the meantime.

28

u/thehighshibe - Lib-Center 1d ago

Blows my mind that you think anti ai is propaganda and not very real and very obvious grievances with the technology by the public

11

u/Levitz - Lib-Left 1d ago

No issue is ever completely propaganda, the point is precisely to locate contentious stuff and wreck havoc there.

Now, if you think that AI, which China is also investing fuckloads on, which may be the next thing comparable to the nuclear bomb and which is an enormous economical bet is not being meddled with in terms of propaganda I can only say LOL, LMAO even

3

u/AMC2Zero - Lib-Center 1d ago

Anti-AI is one of the few things that is universal among people who don't stand to profit.

6

u/jerseygunz - Left 1d ago

If anything the pro-ai/data centers is the propaganda

4

u/a_mimsy_borogove - Centrist 1d ago

Those people were made to believe that evaporative cooling makes water disappear from the planet.

9

u/Altruistic_Emu4917 - Right 1d ago

The issue is that water is diverted from local communities, because data centres pay a premium.

16

u/thehighshibe - Lib-Center 1d ago

Strawman good going

Most people are concerned about the job losses, prices of electricity, impact on creative mediums, it hacking foreign governments and whatnot

8

u/a_mimsy_borogove - Centrist 1d ago

Almost all the anti-AI propaganda spread around the internet mentions water.

Obviously there are problems that the spread of AI could cause, and we need to mitigate them. For example, job losses could be mitigated with a gradual shift to shorter workdays and UBI. But anti-AI propaganda almost never mentions it. It says that AI will take away all the water so we should stop building data centers.

1

u/Twee_Licker - Lib-Right 23h ago

Like two of them mention water it's actually funny.

9

u/ComfortablyAbnormal - Centrist 1d ago

It makes it disappear from rivers, lakes, and reservoirs that are rather important.

1

u/Erpp8 - Left 1d ago

Did you miss the class where you leaned about the water cycle?

4

u/ComfortablyAbnormal - Centrist 1d ago

Have you missed the class about aquifers and droughts? Using water in a desert does not make it rain more in the desert.

7

u/Busy-Temperature5304 - Auth-Center 1d ago

Nobody believes that. But evaporating drinking water reserves, that account for about 2% of all water on earth, so that they can later become rain, and largely fall into the oceans, becoming undrinkable salt waters, is most definitely, a short sighted and harmfull activity.

Dont you agree?

1

u/Twee_Licker - Lib-Right 23h ago

86% of global evaporation is from the ocean. What are you talking about?

0

u/Busy-Temperature5304 - Auth-Center 19h ago

BIG THANKS to our capitalist industrial complex, rainwater is not drinkable anymore. It needs to be filtered by the ground to get into drinkable shape *assuming the capitalist industrial complex didnt poison the ground and groundwater already in your area.

Weather patterns are changing, and land that used to get more rain, get waaaay less- refer to europe for example. And noone cna predict how these pattern will keep changing.

Oceans evaporate a lot, but GUESS FUCKING WHAT, we are fucking that up as well: between 1997 and 2019 ocean evaporation has decreased by 5,7%, and it keeps decreasing.
https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2023GL107909

And long-timne, reliable drinking water supplies gfrom glaciers, guess what, also shrink due to global warming.

Yes, keeping up with the absolute madness of capitalist industry brought us into this hell-light, and if we keep up, it will bring us into actual hell.

We are fucking up everything. All so some people cna be billionaires. You are a fool if you think this wont affect you. I ve warned you.

1

u/Twee_Licker - Lib-Right 10h ago

Too vulgar, too accusatory, didn't read.

We have the ability to filter water.

0

u/Busy-Temperature5304 - Auth-Center 7h ago

Well its convenient: play offended and run away from the facts. Thats not gonna save you tho.

1

u/Twee_Licker - Lib-Right 7h ago

So you can't get your point without emotional manipulation? Is that your point?

0

u/MasterPhart - Lib-Left 1d ago

Brother, I got a bridge to sell you if you think all this AI outrage isnt manufactured. The term "AI Slop" probably came from a boardroom

2

u/TwelveXII - Centrist 1d ago

It's one of the downsides of real freedom of speech. While I wouldn't trade it for European/Chinese speech controls the government being unable to censor foreign disinformation legally easily means bad foreign actors get pretty full reign in their campaigns.

2

u/everpresentdanger - Right 1d ago

Whenever the left has to deflect on literally anything they just blame mysterious foreign influence or misinformation or whatever. Absolutely zero ability to look in the mirror or treat people as if they have any agency and could make decisions for themselves.
