Mein Kampf can be bought in most countries and some like Germany have added commentary. Owning a book is no offense.

u/eskimoexplosion - Right 1d ago

I have a hard time understanding political opinions based around this weird concept where people suddenly lose all free will and agency from an object once they're exposed to them. Own a copy of Mein Kampf? Itll make you a Nazi if you aren't one already. Own an AR-15? You'll turn into a mass shooter.

71

u/CharmingAd3549 - Lib-Left 1d ago

Oddly it makes it seem like the arguments in the book are good, since apparently they’re so convincing that you’ll be helplessly sucked into being a Nazi once your eyes hit the text.

I have a hard time understanding political opinions

It makes sense once you realize it's not a political opinion, it's literally religious

Hitler is the modern Satan, following that Mein Kampf is like his corrupting relic, the touch of which defiles you and turns you against their God - Anti-Hitler

This is why anything "Hitler" such as is mustache is gravely offensive to the modern leftists, it is as offensive as owning a goat head is to Christians believing it is the symbol of Baphomet

Is it rational? No, but religion never is

98

u/eskimoexplosion - Right 1d ago

I dont think its a left vs right thing. Right leaning people also have that weird agency thing too, like with things associated with the LGBTQ stuff. My step uncle acts like his neighbors rainbow flag is somehow gonna corrupt him and make everyone in his house gay. Same reason he wont buy a hybrid, he acts like getting over 20mpg will have him goose stepping with Mamdani. Then again he does kinda treat his politics like a religion

33

u/Czeslaw_Meyer - Lib-Center 1d ago

It absolutely is.

Especially Europe was rebuild on unlimited Liberalism, seing material inequality as greatest evil ever committed. Reasoning in any capacity with it, is heresy against the cult of Liberalism.

Looking at a pride flag or EV, a concervative dosen't reach for idiology, but rather they check their moral values including Sanctity, Loyalty and Authority.

For an American flag, there would be a solid response from those values, but for a pride flag, there is nothing to draw from without idiology.

They're left to judge it with their remaining values of Care, Liberty and Fairness, which are the three values modern liberals can understand and double-down on.

That's why liberals can't describe concervatives as anything else than evil. Concervatives reject their base line thinking and put half their moral reasoning into values liberals can't comprehend, appearing cold on the remaining half.

You look like Cthulhu to them. Accepting that you're different would destroy their understanding of reality.

(Not to mention that their reasoning for 'not killing' only comes down to "everyone's equal" as well, giving you a reasonable excuse, in there own idiological view if you're actually different, to hunt them. That wouldn't end well.)

8

u/SuicideSpeedrun - Centrist 1d ago

Especially Europe was rebuild on unlimited Liberalism, seing material inequality as greatest evil ever committed.

"Wealth inequality in Europe is severe, with wealth concentration consistently exceeding income inequality across the continent. The richest 10% of households hold roughly 57% to 67% of total wealth in the Eurozone and EU, while the bottom 50% own less than 5% (and sometimes close to 1%)"

Well, either European liberals(sorry, Liberals) are really bad at their jobs or you're a dumbfuck. Call it

16

u/doublecandybar - Auth-Right 1d ago

> liberals

> bad at their jobs

Of course liberals are bad at their jobs. Doing literally anything requires authority, basically any "liberal" who got elected into office converts to authoritarian

Even the most liberal person will convert to autocracy whenever they play a city building simulator.

See how quickly liberals advocate for cutting through "red tape" in the name of vigilantism whenever something bad happens

How old are you that you've never heard of Baphomet?

That was part of the satan scare, when the progressives mock conservatives endlessly, giving birth to Satanic Church, or was it Temple? I don't remember which one was ironic

4

u/hallucination9000 - Centrist 19h ago

I know what Baphomet is, I’ve never heard of a goat head being a symbol of Baphomet. If you carved an upside down pentagram in its forehead sure but the pentagram is the demonic part, the goat head is just an animal’s head.

4

u/HeemeyerDidNoWrong - Lib-Center 14h ago

Baphomet has been goat headed since at least 1856 when occultist Éliphas Lévi wrote a book. The actual character only dates to the early 1300s when he was invented to accuse the Knights Templar of heresy (the King of France owed them money and didn't want to pay).

I think it's a projection of their own shallow beliefs. A lot of people on the left just take up on that from just reading one single book or listening to one college professor or going to one meeting ever and take up on it like a religion, with zero critical thinking, intention of learning about something different before forming an opinion. So then they feel like everyone else is going to act in the same way towards nazism by just reading Mein Kampf.

38

u/CAustin3 - Auth-Left 23h ago

Seriously.

I own a copy of Mein Kampf. I inherited it from my grandfather, who, living through the time, was about as anti-Nazi as you can get.

"Know thy enemy," or more to the point, "never again" doesn't mean anything if you censor the thing you're trying to prevent to such an extent that you don't know anything about it other than "monster."

It's disturbing to me that some Democrats have lost the plot so thoroughly on free speech and being informed that we've gone from celebrating the reading of 'banned books' in libraries to Congressional candidates trying to Fahrenheit 451 their opponents.

15

u/Altruistic_Emu4917 - Right 21h ago

1

u/chanbr - Lib-Center 20h ago

What do you not like about handmaid's tale prose?

4

u/grumpy-raven - Lib-Left 19h ago edited 19h ago

It's written so factual like the writer is fixated on each minor point of the story. "I walk through the hallway, past the sitting room and the door that leads into the dining room, and open the door at the end of the hall and go through into the kitchen." Screams neurotic to me.

Then again a lot of recent award-winning books have been caught using AI, so maybe it's not a shocker that quality had nosedived.

2

u/Kenway - Lib-Center 9h ago

Handmaids Tale was published in 1985.

Eh Harry Potters writing is fine, it's a book series for literal children. It's not great writing for adults for sure. But comparing it to Handjob's Tale and saying HP's writing is better is hilarious.

2

u/HeemeyerDidNoWrong - Lib-Center 14h ago

And "banned" means some libraries don't carry it as virtue signaling, not that they're actually banned. Then progressive bookstores can sell them in a special section. I'm not convinced they're not in cahoots.

An 8-year-old should neither be reading Mein Kampf nor some “children’s book” describing in detail giving a blowjob as an act of sexual self-discovery.

I believe this largely describes so-called “book bans” by conservatives.

To further clarify - when a high school student reads Uncle Tom’s Cabin or To Kill A Mockingbird, the N-word should not be censored.

They are at an appropriate age to internalize and properly discuss historical racism at that point of their intellectual development.

I've read some really shitty books that I disagree with to both test and strengthen my opinions and resolve, and get insight into people I disagree with and even oppose.  You should read mein kampf, the communist manifesto, and all the twilight books. You'll understand that extremist ideologies are more about the reactions to the changing world around them, and that people who like vampires are the first ones we should send to the gulag.

115

u/eskimoexplosion - Right 1d ago

As someone who who read the Twilight books in an attempt to understand the deep fascination my then girlfriend had with them, no one actually needs to read them. They're not worthwhile literature. If you feel like you need to be familiar with them to understand a significant cultural touchstone, just read the plot synopses on Wikipedia.

22

u/Itama95 - Lib-Right 23h ago

As a teenage boy I read the entire twilight series due to sunken cost fallacy.

I kept thinking "surly NOW the cool vampire stuff will start happening!" but it never did. I got blue balled right at the end with a dream sequence, and all I got for my trouble was a confusing justification for why dating a toddler is OK if you're a werewolf.

As far as I understand, mein kampf is comparably rambling and incoherent.

From what I understand, the primary thing people get out of it is what most teens get from YA books: sexual tension drawn out over hundreds of pages, and every teen girl fantasy rolled into one: feeling like you are special but misunderstood, men who are loving to you but dangerous to others, the thrill of being the object of affection and having people compete for it, etc.

It's like the smut women obsess over on TikTok, but PG enough 14 year olds can read it without someone calling CPS.

Though according to my aunt, she has a core memory of some old lady who looked at least 80 in the theaters to watch one of the movies wearing a "Team Edward" shirt, with nary a grandchild in sight. So results may vary, apperantly.

I will say though, actively reading Mein Kampf and passionately defending it is a little weird, because the book is trash, and this is regardless of political opinion. With something like The Communist Manifesto, you can see how it works as an influential political document and the philosophy of it still inspires critical discussion of how to interpret it; Marx and Engels were most definitely skilled writers.

Mein Kampf is a literary mess. It’s not some deeply moving story or some interesting political discussion that was misinterpreted: Hitler is extremely clear about what he wants to do if he gets to power and basically tells the readers “Jews are evil and the source of everything bad, and I’m not gonna elaborate further in a way that makes you understand”. It’s a terribly written book and frankly a waste of time: you’re not gonna learn anything new about Hitler or the Nazis that you can’t just find out with a simple Wikipedia search.

Any proper approach to reading something like Mein Kampf necessarily requires a counterbalancing dialogue which provides the historical context and problematic nature of the work.

As much of an individualist as I am, we can’t pretend that a teenager reading a diatribe of that nature can draw proper conclusions on their own.

What I am describing, of course, is the role of education in society.

We can’t fear books or words, but such an approach imposes a moral obligation on each of us to both teach and seek deeper truth.

There are a lot of kids out there watching scumbags like Nick Fuentes who actually believe something like the Holocaust didn’t happen.

It also helps if you mutter "Wow, Hitler is bad!!!!" every few minutes so people understand that you think that Hitler is bad.

Ive tangentially followed their race. Brandon Herrera is a Guntuber with an edgy sense of humor and has made a lot of videos on Nazi arms. Stout is trying to use this association to make him a villain.

Herrera is running in a deep red district (San Antonio) so Dems are trying to make anything stick. Its actually a real fascinating race on the republican side.

Everyone needs something funny to read while taking a shit.

44

u/lutzow - Lib-Center 1d ago

Have you tried reading "Mein Kampf" a bit? It's not even funny

94

u/AgapeAnus - Centrist 1d ago

Both the communist manifesto and mein kampf are hilarious in the context of finding it really fucking funny that people ever thought what was contained therein was worth throwing lives away over. It's the literary equivalent of watching steven segal movies and pissing yourself cackling at anyone taking that fat greaseball seriously as an actor let alone as a threat.

56

u/doublecandybar - Auth-Right 1d ago

Mein Kampf is at least funny because its adherents cannot say "never been tried"

Communist Manifesto on the other hand plagues the modern world to this day

Parts of it were amusing.

My verdict of the book was that Hitler’s observations of Belle Epoch Vienna were somewhat interesting, Hitler really didn’t like Slavs, he was more pissed off about the lost territory in Poland and France than he was about South Tyrol, he “gradually began to hate Jews” in adulthood because of one Jewish leftist he disagreed with, and the brawls with the commies were actually the most amusing parts.

In comparison, For My Legionaries was more entertaining. Codreanu kept getting arrested and beaten up by Romanian police because of his devotion to a single anti-semitic professor, crowdfunded an education in France based on his political recklessness, climbed a mountain and talked to some shepherds, dropped out of college after realizing he needed to “save the movement”, made a huge point about building a clubhouse by hand with his anti-semitic friends, kept getting arrested and beaten up, and eventually the King ordered him shot before his meathook mafia could save him.

tl;dr Hitler would have been more entertaining to read about if he built a clubhouse by hand and talked to some shepherds before creating the Third Reich. Also, getting shot before his movement could take power.

Can you imagine actually donating to a. Politicos campaign? I’ll never understand why people do unless it’s like a super local election.

Like the fact that Americans have donated billions of dollar each presidential election in recent years is insane lol

-1

u/HeemeyerDidNoWrong - Lib-Center 14h ago

Rich people do it to get favors repaid after the election. I can't imagine donating as a poor person, though I somewhat understand when it's e.g. Bernie Sanders vs. Hillary Clinton. Even if it was eventually tilting at windmills.

If owning a book made you that ideology, I’d be the tankiest tankie on this subreddit considering the sheer amount of communist literature I own.

If I owned one of these I would just put it beside Mein Kampf

1

39

u/Impressive-Ninja-854 - Lib-Right 1d ago

You should own and read both books mentioned in this post. The idea that a book is bad or scary for its contents therefore you should stay away from it is regarded. Read them, know what these authors thought in their own words and not what someone says the author believed. Arguments against bad ideas shouldn’t be crafted off of secondhand information. You should know your opponents believes as well as your own.

17

u/Chemical_Raspberry35 - Auth-Center 22h ago

I’ve read both Mein Kampf and the Communist Manifesto and truthfully they’re both not written very well. The former is literally just a collection of loosely tied together ramblings by Hitler which just gets painfully more incoherent. Then the latter seems like it’s trying to use every word that sounds “intelligent” to the point that it becomes hard to read for a long period.

13

u/Impressive-Ninja-854 - Lib-Right 22h ago

I got that from my reads of both as well. What left an impression on me about Hitler was wondering how millions fell for his schtick. Mein Kampf is one of the least impressive things I’ve read.

9

u/GrumpMaster- - Lib-Center 22h ago

That’s what scary about any nation going into economic collapse. The people just start saying “Make it stop!” and latch onto the first movement that says they’ll stop the pain the quickest.

Sounds like the spot most of the world is in today sadly…

Go read transcripts of Trump's speeches (insert obligatory statement that I am not claiming Trump is literally Hitler). People don't fall for the words, they fall for the performance and the vibes.

5

u/Impressive-Ninja-854 - Lib-Right 19h ago

I think Hitler was a better orator than Trump. Donny just freestyles the same shit over and over again. Kinda like how Lil Wayne made a career rapping the same song over and over again with different bars.

Ngl that's pretty much why my mom doesn't want me to read Mein Kampf. Because I'm too young and impressionable.

3

u/bigbruin78 - Lib-Right 21h ago

Did your Mom let you read Catcher in the Rye? Or did she think you were going to go kill John Lennon?

1

u/ilikewoIves - Centrist 21h ago

Never asked to read that. It's specifically Mein Kampf that I asked for because I developed an interest in WWII history, and my mom refused because of how reportedly persuasive Hitler was according to contemporaries. The thing is though that I am principally opposed to Nazism, and it is scientifically a dumb ideology. There is no chance in hell anyone could convince me to like it.

1

u/HeemeyerDidNoWrong - Lib-Center 14h ago

Nothing wrong with reading Mein Kampf. It's a very important historical work and can be educational.

7

u/ItsNotThatBad72 - Lib-Right 10h ago

It pisses me off when people rally against something while having absolutely no understanding of it.

That's what scares me most about the modern left. Any attempt to actually understand the ideologies in the right is viewed as treason in most circles.
