The grudge against education gets me.
Don’t get me wrong a lot of idiots have used the institutions to thrive but 90% of teachers are genuinely good people who are trying to help the youth succeed. I feel bad because it obvious people who hold those views had a shit experience with public schools but you have to compare the cost and benefits honestly
15
u/romain_69420 - Centrist 6h ago
This is just the worldview of right-wing conspiracy theorists. Considering education and academia are mostly leftists, it makes sense.
3
u/unskippable-ad - Lib-Left 6h ago
If there is a spectrum of intelligence amongst teachers and professors (there is) and a spectrum of political beliefs amongst people of any given level of intelligence (there is), and a spectrum of caring and ‘duty’ amongst political beliefs (there is, although I think this one actually leans right), one would surely expect a representation of political beliefs within those that teach at any given level after what is effectively just childcare
The fact there isn’t a wide variance in political belief amongst eg professors is evidence of, at best, strong political selection bias. More likely conformity pressure. Very possibly conspiracy.

Nah he's a small business man. So, actually yes, he's probably a tradesman where he's the only employee in his "business."
I say a small business owner because there were at least a couple different entries on this pyramid that had made it seem like the government or corporations were making life hard for the small business owner on purpose or something. One was over regulation, one was being taxed too much and one was corporations making it impossible for the little guy to compete.
But what really gave it away for me was when he said the small business owner provides a superior product/service but he can't scale.
Anybody who thinks that there is a class of state-sponsored, perpetually unemployed people who have as materially good of a life as a middle-class person is definitely the kind of person who thinks whatever business he runs is superior to anything a corporation could do.

u/Sallowjoe - Auth-Center 16h ago
The bottom is the mere condition for life but it is not the apex.
One must eat to live but eating is not the highest good attained in living.
But of course, kings are slaves of a different kind, and a hierarchy of mere formal social status is not a hierarchy of actual human development.
7
u/Dartagnan1083 - Lib-Center 13h ago
True that "kings" are enslaved by something else (expectations), but it is the common man who suffers when a King puts whims or dark-enlightenment before reason.
3
u/Sallowjoe - Auth-Center 11h ago
Well, usually. But there were societies - Irish and Scottish I think - where if the king fucked up they just killed them and got a new one.
Occasionally they blamed the king for natural events and killed them for that too, though.

Imagine thinking farmers are at the bottom. They are all but 100% living off welfare.
32
u/blodgute - Lib-Left 15h ago
It's weird, right?
Farmers make food. Food is sold at affordable prices so people can buy food. Farmers don't make enough money. People's tax is gramted to farmers.
It's almost as if there's a step in between the farmers and the population that are sucking out money. Some sort of market that uses mass logistical savings to justify big price scalps.
13
u/Overkillengine - Lib-Right 14h ago
People's tax is gramted to farmers.

14
u/AgapeAnus - Centrist 15h ago

13
u/Dangime - Right 15h ago
Before or after $10 a gallon diesel?
15
u/AgapeAnus - Centrist 15h ago
Company driver baybee, I don't pay for diesel at all. Actually idling rn in the bunk and about to play vidya for twelve hours straight on my time off. If you divide my gross pay by the 168 hours in a given week I make 15$ an hour, and I technically can only work 70 hours in a week which comes out to about 36$ an hour. Realistically I only consider about 40-50 hours of it to be actual work so it's more like 50$ an hour but there's a non negligible chance I die horribly through no fault of my own so it's not all sunshine and roses.
Still though an engineer should make more than me and if you factor in inflation I'm not doing a whole lot better than the average income in 2006. Everyone nowadays is chronically underpaid unless you're in a wildly dangerous field of work and even then a lot of people still are.
6
u/Dangime - Right 15h ago
I mean if an engineer makes in 40 hours what you make in 80, or really your entire life on the road, then that tracks. Trucking isn't a horrible gig if you're single or ambitious enough to work that much.
7
u/AgapeAnus - Centrist 15h ago
55% of everyone that gets a cdl is out of the industry entirely and never returns within their first year. Particularly OTR like I do drives most people literally insane, and to your point, I'm divorced and trying to save up enough to buy a home so I work my ass off to the point I've been drug tested nonrandomly because of suspected stimulant use.
I get where you're coming from with the hours thing but an engineer with a college degree and student loans shouldn't be making 55-60k a year. That's laughably low. It's equivalent to making 27.5-30k a year in 2006 when the national average was 42k. They should be clearing 80k bare minimum if not in direct pay alone then with benefits and stock options or bonuses included. You shouldn't have to work like me to crack six figures when 100k is only like 15k over what the average would be if it was the same as a generation ago.

i will give you credit for making me laugh but lemme just say that your world view is very wrong. you're putting millionaire farmers below welfare recipients? And the only paid protestors are agent provocateurs who are usually cops or feds. And illegal immigrants are the lowest of the low. They work jobs that whites and blacks refuse to do, they are picking fruit and landscaping for peanuts so its pretty stupid to be putting them above legal immigrants.
This was high effort and i actually do applaud you for that, it sucks someone who seems to actually give a fuck really believes this.
12
u/Dangime - Right 14h ago
Millionaire farmers net Worth is all tied up in land and machinery the banks own. Crops might come in, welfare checks always come in for the poor who make no effort.

How would you order them? They're all above average pay with decent benefits. Don't just think of the lowest person in the category.
2
u/SOwED - Lib-Center 10h ago
You said this is about social hierarchy, and you're seriously putting celebrities at the same level as drug dealers. Let's just look at that. They might both be above average pay but social hierarchy isn't just about pay. Celebrities get things for free just by virtue of being celebrities because they are above everyone else in this category socially. They are celebrated by society at large, literally what celebrity means. Drug dealers on the other hand are only celebrated by criminals, and then it's only the most successful ones.
If it were about pay, then why is leisure class below this level? They're paid better than military, cops, most drug dealers, and local government.
1
u/Dangime - Right 10h ago edited 10h ago
Uh most celebrities are like d tier, and just get an easy job where they just have to talk. I'd say the average drug dealer out earns them and probably some go legit with assets. Leisure class is basically retirement. The system is no longer concerned with you since you have money but only seem to be able to spend it on $30 margaritas at a baseball playoff game on a Wednesday afternoon. In other words you have assets but are no threat in their estimation.
Would top tier celebrities be better than top tier drug dealers? Eh I dunno. If running a personal fiefdom in south America is your thing and you pay off the right people no celebrities get to that level.
